Based on feedback from fellow campers, Houghton / Letchworth KOA presents a mixed but potentially enjoyable experience. Many visitors highlight the campground's family-friendly atmosphere and the array of activities available. One long-time camper enthusiastically shares their yearly tradition of visiting since their daughter was seven. They rave about the well-stocked store with its tempting treats and ice cream selection, perfect for those camping essentials and satisfying sweet cravings. The campground boasts scenic hiking trails winding through the woods, inviting nature lovers to explore the local flora and fauna. Adding to the fun are the themed weekends, complete with engaging crafts that provide entertainment for all ages. A significant draw is the salt water pool, offering a refreshing way to cool down during warmer months. Even on rainy days, the fun doesn't stop, thanks to the indoor pool and an arcade filled with exciting games.
For those seeking creative outlets, Houghton / Letchworth KOA offers pottery painting, a unique activity that allows campers to express their artistic side and create memorable souvenirs. The positive review also specifically mentions the owners, Tommy and Karin, praising their excellent care and the warm, familial way they treat guests, especially children. This personal touch can significantly enhance the overall camping experience, making visitors feel welcome and valued.
However, it's important to consider all feedback when making your decision. Another reviewer shares a less positive experience, raising concerns about the owner's behavior. These concerns include alleged unwarranted surveillance, unexpected changes to reserved camping spots without clear explanation, and perceived anger when these changes are questioned. The reviewer recounts multiple instances where they felt the owner or an associate was unnecessarily monitoring the campground, even when it was not at full capacity. A specific incident involved being accused of not picking up after their dog, despite the reviewer's assertion that they had cleaned up and that the waste in question appeared to be from a different animal. This interaction reportedly included a warning of a $20 charge for any pet waste the owner or staff had to handle. The reviewer also notes that the campground was never full during their visits, even during peak seasons like the fall foliage period near Letchworth State Park, suggesting potential underlying reasons for this.
Considering these contrasting perspectives, Houghton / Letchworth KOA appears to be a campground with a range of appealing amenities and a focus on family activities. The presence of both indoor and outdoor swimming options, hiking trails, a store, an arcade, and unique offerings like themed weekends and pottery painting creates a diverse set of opportunities for entertainment and relaxation. The positive experiences shared by some campers, particularly regarding the owners' hospitality, suggest a welcoming environment for many visitors.
However, the concerns raised by other reviewers regarding management style and interactions should not be disregarded. Potential campers may want to weigh these points carefully against the positive aspects. It might be prudent to inquire about specific site reservations and campground policies beforehand to ensure a smooth and enjoyable stay.
For local users in the "camping near me" category, Houghton / Letchworth KOA presents a convenient option with a variety of features that could cater to different preferences. If you value a campground with ample activities for families, including swimming, games, and creative pursuits, this KOA might be worth considering. While the reviews offer differing viewpoints on the management, the described amenities and location still position Houghton / Letchworth KOA as a potentially attractive destination for your next camping adventure.
To make an informed decision, local campers are encouraged to consider the full spectrum of feedback and perhaps contact the campground directly with any specific questions or concerns. Houghton / Letchworth KOA Reviews
We camp at Houghton/Letchworth KOA yearly, since my daughter was 7 years old. We have so much fun on our trips. The store has great treats and ice cream options. There are great hiking trails through the woods, themed weekends with crafts, and we spend lots of time at the salt water pool. We don't even mind when it rains because we can play in the indoor pool and at the arcade games. They even offer pottery painting which is another great activity. The owners Tommy and Karin always take good care of us and treats my daughter like their own. We absolutely love them both.
Mar 28, 2025 · Jenna RobergeThe camp ground is nice, however like it has been stated in other reviews, the owner is creepy and sneeks around watching every one. He changes the spots you reserve and gets angry when you ask why. We stayed here a handful of times and had a few interactions with the owner that we just passed off as he must be having a bad day. The last time we stayed we noticed how either the owner or his side kick kept going through the campground that was not even close to being full. The owner yelled at my relatives telling them to tell us we did not pick up after our dog. I picked the poop up, but it was not from my dog. I know what my dogs poop look like. I told the owner I picked it up anyways and he told me if he sees any more he was going to charge me $20 for any that himself or the staff would have to pick up. It was in the fall and you would think that the campground would be full with the fall leaves and Letchworth Park. Then we realized it has never been full on any of our other trips. I wonder why Camper? Camper beware. The poop in question looked more like fox poop.
Mar 27, 2025 · Erica GibbsOur first time here and we absolutely love it! The coneflower cabin was perfect and when we come back I will request it. The staff is friendly, the grounds while small were extremely well kept. The bathrooms were the cleanest I’ve ever seen at a campground.Even though it rained a lot we still enjoyed our time here. The only con is the beds are super squeaky! Our little family had a great time and the dog loved it too!
Aug 03, 2024 · Amanda SteffanDid a short weekend getaway with toddler aged children at this campground earlier in July. Booking it was very easy and priced reasonably. They had a beautiful campsite with water views and my children loved the amentities available throughout the KOA. It made camping with two 5 year olds easy. We will visit again!
Jul 22, 2024 · Katrina PiechowiczIt is a beautiful campground. The manager was very helpful when I needed help with my RV. Bathroom were clean and plenty of hot water. I would recommend this KOA.One thing.. I came through the town of Freedom. Right past there are a few long hills. I was in a RV so I didn’t have any problems. Next time I go I will check out alternative routes. After saying this, I wouldn’t let the hills stop me from going back. It is well maintained and very quiet.
