Hubinger Landing Campground Introduce
For local users in the Keokuk, Iowa area searching for "camping near me," Hubinger Landing Campground, located at 801 Mississippi Dr, Keokuk, IA 52632, USA, presents a riverside location. You can contact them at (319) 524-2050 ext. 108 or +1 319-524-2050 ext. 108. Based on the available customer reviews, it's important for local users to be aware of certain aspects of this campground when considering it for their camping needs.
One reviewer mentioned that a "two-star rating is generous," suggesting that the overall experience might not meet the expectations of all campers. However, the same reviewer did acknowledge a positive aspect, noting that "the location along the Mississippi earns it a second star." This indicates that the environment, specifically its proximity to the Mississippi River, could be a significant draw for those seeking a waterfront camping experience in the "camping near me" category.
However, the reviews also highlight some significant drawbacks that local users should consider. One of the most critical points raised is the lack of essential amenities. The reviewer explicitly stated, "There are no bathrooms. No showers." For many campers, especially those planning more than a very basic overnight stay, the absence of these facilities can be a major deterrent. If you are a local camper who values on-site restrooms and showers, this is a crucial factor to take into account when evaluating Hubinger Landing Campground.
Furthermore, the environment appears to be impacted by external factors. The proximity to BNSF railway lines is a significant concern, as noted by the reviewer who described a "chorus of diesel BNSF locomotives just across the street running all night." The noise pollution seems to be substantial, with specific mention of a train with a faulty cylinder creating a disruptive "beating" sound inside their RV. Additionally, the reviewer recounted an instance of a train sounding its horn multiple times late at night, pointing out the potential for noise disturbances despite regulations that might allow for quiet zones.
The visual environment also seems to be affected by the railway. The reviewer lamented that while there is an "incredibly beautiful restored Romanesque train station just down the road," the view is obstructed by "rows of train cars" parked by BNSF, which the reviewer feels has "pretty well destroyed the waterfront for this historic city." For local users who appreciate scenic views and a peaceful environment, this obstruction and the general industrial presence might detract from the overall camping experience.
Adding to the potential downsides, the reviewer mentioned noise from "locals roaring their un-muffled Harleys up and down the road by the campground," further contributing to a potentially noisy environment. Based on this feedback, local users seeking a quiet and tranquil "camping near me" option might need to weigh these factors carefully.
Another concerning review described the campground as "Unmanaged!" The reviewer reported seeing someone "cleaning out their garage in 4 of the campsites" and "doing repairs on a mobile home," questioning the presence and involvement of management. This lack of apparent management could lead to issues with site upkeep, noise control, and general order within the campground, which would be important for local users to consider in their decision-making process.
Despite these negative comments, the second reviewer did concede that it "Could be a great spot with a great view," reinforcing the potential appeal of the Mississippi River location. However, this positive aspect is overshadowed by the reported lack of facilities and the environmental disturbances.
For local users actively searching for "camping near me" in Keokuk, IA, Hubinger Landing Campground offers a location directly on the Mississippi River. This could provide opportunities for river-related activities or simply enjoying the waterfront scenery. However, the strong criticisms regarding the absence of bathrooms and showers, the significant noise from nearby trains (operating throughout the night), and local traffic, as well as concerns about management, are crucial points to consider.
Given the information available, it is recommended that local users considering Hubinger Landing Campground contact them directly at (319) 524-2050 ext. 108 to inquire about the current status of amenities, any potential changes in the noise situation, and management presence. Asking specific questions based on the concerns raised in the reviews will help you get a clearer and more up-to-date picture of what to expect. For example, you might ask if there are any plans to install restroom or shower facilities, or if there are designated quiet hours.
In conclusion, while Hubinger Landing Campground boasts a location along the Mississippi River, which could be appealing to those seeking "camping near me" with waterfront access, potential local campers should be aware of the significant drawbacks highlighted in the reviews. These include the reported lack of bathrooms and showers, substantial noise from adjacent train traffic and local vehicles, and concerns about campground management. It is advisable for local users to contact the campground directly to seek clarification and current information before making a decision.

Hubinger Landing Campground Reviews
Two star rating is generous but the location along the Mississippi earns it a second star. There are no bathrooms. No showers. No one told us about the chorus of diesel BNSF locomotives just across the street running all night. One of them must have had a bad cylinder as it sounded like someone beating a bass drum inside our RV. Drove us crazy. A train leaving at 9:30 at night sounded it's horn 13 times in the short stretch along the water while leaving town. (Yes, I understand there are regulations that require horn blowing but those regulations also allow quiet zones (and times) if the crossings are marked and signaled which they are.) There is a incredibly beautiful restored Romanesque train station just down the road. Too bad you can't see it as BNSF parks rows of train cars in front blocking any view. BNSF has pretty well destroyed the waterfront for this historic city. Add to this the locals roaring their un-muffled Harleys up and down the road by the campground and we won't be back.
