The environment surrounding Hunts Bluff Campground is primarily defined by its proximity to the Black River. This location offers campers immediate access to the water for various activities such as boating, fishing, and particularly kayaking. The Black River is known for its natural beauty and relatively undeveloped shoreline, offering a sense of wilderness and tranquility. According to a customer review, paddling upstream from the launch near the campground reveals a landscape largely untouched by human development, providing a unique opportunity for immersive nature experiences. The campground itself appears to be situated in a potentially wooded or open area leading down to the river, offering a blend of shade and access to the waterfront. While specific details about the flora and fauna in the immediate vicinity are not provided, the coastal plain of North Carolina is typically characterized by pine forests, hardwood swamps, and a variety of wildlife, which campers might encounter during their stay.
Based on customer reviews, Hunts Bluff Campground offers essential amenities to ensure a comfortable stay. For RV campers, Full Hook-Up (FHU) sites are available, providing water, sewer, and electrical connections (both 30 and 50 amp service are mentioned). This is a significant convenience for those traveling with recreational vehicles. Additionally, the campground boasts "great high-speed WiFi," a feature that can be particularly appealing for those who need to stay connected or wish to enjoy online entertainment during their camping trip. The presence of a kayak launch directly accessible from at least some campsites is a standout feature, catering specifically to paddling enthusiasts. While other basic amenities such as restrooms, showers, and potentially laundry facilities are not explicitly mentioned in the provided reviews, they are often standard offerings at campgrounds and may be available at Hunts Bluff. It is advisable to contact the campground directly to confirm the full range of amenities available.
A key feature of Hunts Bluff Campground, as highlighted by a reviewer, is its exceptional suitability for kayaking on the Black River. The direct launch access allows for effortless entry into the water, making it ideal for both experienced kayakers and those new to the sport. The river's pristine and undeveloped stretches, as described in the review, offer a unique wilderness paddling experience, a significant draw for nature lovers seeking solitude. Beyond kayaking, the river also provides opportunities for boating and fishing, further enhancing the recreational appeal of the campground. The sites themselves are described as "somewhat close together but large enough" to comfortably manage RV hookups without encroaching on neighboring sites. They are also noted to be "flat with nice gravel," which is beneficial for setting up tents or parking RVs. The availability of both 30 and 50 amp electrical service caters to a range of RV sizes and power needs.
While the positive aspects of Hunts Bluff Campground are evident, one review mentions a potential challenge for very large RVs (specifically a 40' fifth wheel). Navigating the driveway was reported to be difficult, causing the RV to bank hard and potentially damage the trailer. This is an important consideration for campers with larger rigs, and it might be prudent to inquire about driveway access and site maneuverability when making a reservation. However, for smaller RVs and tent campers, this may not be an issue.
Currently, specific promotional information for Hunts Bluff Campground is not provided in the given text. However, for local users searching within the "camping near me" category, the inherent appeal lies in its location and the unique access to the Black River. Highlighting the opportunities for kayaking, boating, and fishing, along with the availability of FHU sites and high-speed WiFi, can serve as strong promotional points. Potential future promotions could include seasonal discounts, special rates for longer stays, or packages that combine camping with kayak rentals or guided river tours, if such services are offered or partnered with.
In conclusion, Hunts Bluff Campground in Kelly, NC, offers a compelling camping experience, particularly for those interested in exploring the Black River through kayaking, boating, or fishing. Its location makes it a convenient option for local residents seeking a "camping near me" destination with waterfront access. The availability of Full Hook-Up sites and high-speed WiFi caters to RV travelers, while the direct kayak launch is a significant advantage for paddlers. Campers with very large RVs should be aware of potential driveway navigation challenges. For a peaceful and nature-focused getaway centered around the Black River, Hunts Bluff Campground is a local gem worth considering. For the most current information on pricing, availability, and any ongoing promotions, contacting the campground directly at (910) 207-1483 or +1 910-207-1483 is recommended.

Hunts Bluff Campground Reviews
The price was right for a FHU site. Short stay. The water is right there for boating and fishing. The sites are somewhat close together but large enough you're not walking thru the neighbors site to go dump your tanks.Negative for larger RV, we have a 40', and making the cut in the driveway had our 5th wheel banking hard. The back bed rails were pushing right up into the trailer from the angle. Same on the way out. If something can be done about that, this place will be more big rig friendly.
Apr 05, 2025 · Adam VengroffThis a a great spot especially if you like kayaking. The basic amenities are great regarding 30/50 amp and s/w and has great high speed WiFi. It's a small quiet campsite. The spaces are a little close but otherwise flat with nice gravel. What makes this place special is it's proximity to launch ones kayak to paddle the Black River. There is a launch that I could drag my kayak to right from my campsite. Once on the river all I can say is wow. Once leaving the launch I paddled up stream and did not see one man made structure and only ran into one other boater in my two times on the river. So if wilderness paddling is your thing definitely spend some time here.
Nov 02, 2024 · Jon WallachStayed here for over a year, very quiet and peaceful. Clean and convenient. All campsites are level and easy to get in and out of. Campground owner was great, really looks after the place, I was out of town when the temp dropped this past winter and he made the drive in to disconnect the water to my camper so the lines didn’t freeze. Easy to get ahold of and very accommodating. Would highly recommend.
