Environment and Ambiance:
The standout environmental feature of Black River Camping Ventures is its location directly on the river. As one reviewer enthusiastically states, the campsites are "located right on the river!" This prime riverside setting offers a unique ambiance, with the soothing sounds of flowing water and easy access for various water-related activities, most notably fishing. The Black River itself is a significant natural attraction, known for its scenic beauty and diverse aquatic life. Camping right on its banks allows for an immersive natural experience and stunning waterfront views.
The campground is described as a "GREAT camp ground" and a "best kept secret in NC," suggesting a hidden gem that offers a high-quality camping experience. The fact that a group on their third annual camping trip together rated this location as "one of the best times" speaks volumes about its appeal. The environment is conducive to relaxation and enjoyment of nature, with the river as a central element of the experience.
While specific details about the terrain and vegetation are not extensively provided, the mention of riverside campsites implies a relatively flat and accessible area along the riverbank. The spaciousness of the campsites, accommodating up to 7 tents on sites 1 and 2, suggests ample room for groups and ensures a comfortable and uncrowded feel.
Services and Facilities:
One of the most praised aspects of Black River Camping Ventures is the exceptional service provided by the host, Ms. Lisa. Reviewers consistently mention her friendly and accommodating nature, noting that she "was very nice and made sure we were enjoying our time" and "made us feel right at home." This personal touch and genuine care for the guests' experience significantly enhance the overall stay.
In terms of facilities, the campground boasts "by FAR the cleanest port-a-potties" one reviewer had ever seen. This is a notable highlight, as cleanliness of restroom facilities is often a key concern for campers. The fact that the port-a-potties are exceptionally clean suggests a high standard of maintenance and care at the campground.
While the reviews do not explicitly detail other amenities such as picnic tables, fire rings, water hookups, or electrical hookups at each campsite, the focus on tent camping and the mention of spacious sites suggest that basic amenities for a comfortable outdoor experience are likely available. It would be prudent to inquire about the specific amenities offered at each campsite when making a reservation based on your camping needs (tent camping vs. RV camping, although the reviews primarily mention tent camping).
The provision of assistance and ensuring guests are enjoying their time indicates a host who is attentive and responsive to the needs of campers.
Features and Activities:
The primary feature and activity highlighted by the reviewers is the fantastic fishing on the Black River. One group specifically enjoyed "cat fishing at night" and described it as a "blast," with the poles being constantly hit by "some big ones." This indicates that the Black River offers a rewarding fishing experience, particularly for catfish. For anglers seeking a "camping near me" destination with excellent fishing right at their campsite, Black River Camping Ventures appears to be an ideal choice.
The spacious campsites are another significant feature, easily accommodating large groups with multiple tents. This makes it an excellent option for family gatherings, group outings, or annual camping trips with friends.
The direct riverside location allows for easy access to the water for fishing and potentially other activities like kayaking or canoeing, although these are not explicitly mentioned in the reviews. The natural beauty of the Black River and the surrounding area likely provides opportunities for scenic walks and nature observation.
The welcoming and friendly host, Ms. Lisa, adds a personal touch that enhances the overall experience, making guests feel valued and at home.

Black River Camping Ventures Reviews
Our yearly camping trip with some great guys🤙😁! Ended up at this GREAT camp ground. Out of the 3 years we've all camped together. I believe this was one of the best times. For fishing is was a blast🎣! Did some cat fishing at night, and we could barely keep up with the poles being hit by some big ones. Had camp sites 1 and 2, which worked out perfect for 7 tents. Ms. Lisa was very nice and made sure we were enjoying our time during our stay⛺️. We look forward to returning again and maybe for a longer time. Like they say, time flys when you're having a blast! 😎🏕
Nov 08, 2022 · BrentThis is the best kept secret in NC! The the campsites are spacious and located right on the river! It has by FAR the cleanest port-a-potties I’ve ever seen. HUGE thanks to Lisa for allowing nature loving folks like us to enjoy her stunning property. She made us feel right at home
Oct 04, 2020 · Liz NowellI don’t usually camp with my family, but they go all the time. I went this time and this “girly-girl” was VERY impressed! Whether you’re an avid camper or not, this place is beautiful, peaceful and so well kept. The area is clean - even in the fishing spots. No hooks, line and fishing mess anywhere. I didn’t spot a single piece of trash. The port a potty was clean and smelled pleasant. We caught a couple types of bass. A lot of fun! We will be back for sure.Tip: Buy wood with cash there! It’s cheaper than what I paid at Walmart.
Sep 24, 2022 · S TLisa is fantastic. Very very clean.Group of 15 camped and kayaked right from our tent sites. All sites on the water. This place is a hidden gem.Lisa we were under Steve Oakes. If you’d like me to take the 5 star review down, I’m happy to
Oct 29, 2024 · N PotThis place really is awesome. I agree with the comment about the Porta John's being really clean and nice! Great spot with large sites, great views, great fishing, and you can put in kayaks right at the site. I recommend if in the area...use two cars and park one down at Newbys landing. So you can kayak downstream through the swamp.
