These unique elliptical depressions are geological wonders, and Jones Lake offers a tranquil setting for relaxation and exploration. Imagine waking up to the gentle sounds of nature, surrounded by the natural beauty of North Carolina. The campground itself is thoughtfully laid out, providing a comfortable and enjoyable experience for all types of campers.
Recent renovations have significantly enhanced the facilities at Jones Lake State Park Campground. According to recent visitor feedback, a brand-new bathhouse has been constructed, featuring modern amenities such as hot showers and a heater. This is a significant upgrade, especially appreciated during the cooler mornings of early spring or late fall, ensuring a comfortable stay regardless of the season. Furthermore, the campsites themselves have been renovated, suggesting improvements in layout, ground conditions, or possibly the addition of new features. These updates demonstrate a commitment to providing a high-quality camping experience for all visitors.
For those who love to explore on foot, Jones Lake State Park offers excellent hiking opportunities. The Bay Trail, as highlighted by a recent visitor, provides a diverse hiking experience. The clockwise route begins on a sandy road, offering an easy start before transitioning into a more traditional woodsy trail after approximately 2.5 miles. The final half-mile of the loop, which also incorporates a section of the shorter loop trail, offers scenic views of the lake. It's worth noting that this final section can sometimes be muddy and even flooded, particularly after periods of rain, so appropriate footwear is recommended. The varied terrain of the Bay Trail ensures an engaging hike for different fitness levels and offers a chance to immerse yourself in the natural beauty of the park.
The campsites at Jones Lake State Park Campground are described as large, providing ample space for setting up tents or maneuvering RVs. While one visitor noted that the sites offer very little shade, this might be less of an issue for RV campers with their own climate control. However, tent campers visiting during the warmer months should be mindful of this and consider bringing extra shade provisions or choosing campsites that might offer some natural cover. Despite the lack of shade on some sites, the spaciousness allows for comfortable setup and a feeling of privacy.
Cleanliness and maintenance are clearly a priority at Jones Lake State Park Campground. Visitors have consistently praised the updated bathhouse for being clean and well-maintained. This attention to hygiene contributes significantly to a positive camping experience. Friendly and accommodating park rangers and office staff further enhance the welcoming atmosphere of the campground. Jones Lake State Park Campground Reviews
Nice campground. I visited this campground back in 2018. Since then, it has had a new bathhouse built and campsites renovated. The bathhouse has hot showers and a heater which is nice for cold mornings in the early spring weather. We hiked the bay trail going clockwise which was quite diverse. Starts off on a sandy road, giving more of a woodsy feel after 2 1/2 miles. The last 1/2 mile which includes some views of the lake, and includes part of the shorter loop trail was muddy and flooded. Park rangers and office staff were friendly and very accommodating. Would highly recommend this campground.
Feb 20, 2025 · Wendy RFirst time to this state park, and was not disappointed. Sites were large. Very little shade, which wasn't a problem in an rv, but may get hot tenting. Bathrooms were clean and updated.
Apr 06, 2025 · Scott TherrienExtremely quiet in December. Only spent one night but appreciated the flat and spacious RV sites with full hookups. Very nice bathhouse. Walmart close by. Be aware of the gate closing times so you don't get locked out.
Dec 11, 2024 · Jody TaggartCampground offers a good amount of privacy. Trails are nice and maintained. Not far from town. Definitely recommend.
