The environment surrounding Catawba Falls Campground offers a blend of natural appeal and convenient access to regional highlights. Its location near Old Fort places it within reach of both the Black Mountain and Chimney Rock areas, renowned for their outdoor recreational opportunities. As one visitor noted, the campground's location is a significant advantage, allowing easy exploration of both iconic destinations. The presence of a creek running through or near the campground is also mentioned as a pleasant natural feature, potentially offering a soothing ambiance and opportunities for creekside relaxation. The spacing between campsites was perceived positively by one reviewer, suggesting a degree of separation that can enhance the camping experience. However, another review presents a contrasting perspective, describing the sites as "very tight and close to each other" with "absolutely no privacy," indicating a potential inconsistency in site layout or experiences.
In terms of services and features, Catawba Falls Campground, LLC appears to offer some standard amenities. A camp store is mentioned, which one visitor found to have a good deal on firewood, a crucial supply for many campers. The availability of firewood on-site adds convenience for those planning campfires. Clean bathrooms were specifically highlighted as a positive aspect by one reviewer, suggesting attention to hygiene in this essential facility. However, another significant service-related issue was raised concerning a rotting picnic table. The account describes a situation where the owner allegedly requested the camper to personally retrieve a replacement table from another site due to their own inability to do so, ultimately resulting in the campers not having an adequate table. This suggests potential limitations in staff assistance or responsiveness to certain maintenance needs. The mention of well-spaced sites in one review contrasts sharply with the description of "very tight" sites in another, indicating a possible variability in campsite size and layout within the campground.
Features of the campground, beyond the basic amenities, seem to include its proximity to natural attractions. The ability to easily access both Chimney Rock State Park and the town of Black Mountain is a notable feature for those interested in hiking, scenic views, and exploring local culture. The presence of a creek could also be considered a feature, potentially offering opportunities for gentle streamside activities or simply enjoying the natural soundscape. However, one concerning feature mentioned in a review is the presence of broken glass and broken tiles on a campsite. This suggests a lack of thorough site maintenance and potential safety hazards for campers.

The presence of a creek and a camp store are noted as positive aspects. However, potential drawbacks include concerns about campsite spacing and privacy, as well as reported issues with site maintenance (broken glass and tiles) and responsiveness to maintenance requests (picnic table incident). While clean bathrooms are a definite plus, the conflicting experiences shared by reviewers suggest that the overall camping experience may vary. Catawba Falls Campground, LLC Reviews
This was my first time at a private campgrounds and would definitely come back again. The sites were well spaced, the staff was attentive and helpful. The camp store had a great deal on firewood and being on a creek was nice. The best part was the location allowing us to both hike Chimney Rock and explore Black Mountain.
Aug 25, 2024 · Luke JuryOur picnic table was rotting away, when we mentioned it then the owner he asked if I could drive my truck to another campsite to pick up a new table and bring it to my site because he couldn't do it. Needless to say we did not have an adequate table to use at the site. The sites themselves were very tight and close to each other. Absolutely no privacy, had to whisper to each other to talk. Our site had broken glass and broken tiles all over the ground. Bathrooms were clean and that's the only real positive thing I can say about this camp ground. We decided to leave our trip early. Would not recommend if you are looking for a true camp experience.
Jun 17, 2024 · Gabriel LastrakovaI haven’t stayed here in 12 years but I am so happy I came back! Beautiful campground situated right on the river & the sounds of the river are so peaceful. The family who owns it is amazing & make the experience a million times better. Kim was so helpful at answering all of my questions before we booked & Rick & “Dad” took great of us while we were there. Bathhouse is clean & the camp store has ice, firewood, and all the little things you may have forgotten. (Along w/ a little coffee shop where we grabbed iced coffees then sat our chairs in the river to enjoy them!) Short walk to Catawba Falls trailhead & only 5 mins from downtown Old Fort. Amazing camping weekend & we will be back as soon as possible!!
Jun 17, 2024 · Teresa Lynn ClaytonHad a great time, service and location are great. Awesome customer service and location right off of 40 but far enough to not hear traffic.Campsite is on the Catawba River just down for trailhead of falls.I was so close to giving 5 stars. I gave 4 overall due to the near $60 rate, no sewer hookup at site, and how tight the spots are. Staff did mention expanding sites E1-10 but for now, it’s close quarters.I would definitely come back.
May 28, 2024 · Tony Huelsman2nd time we’ve visited and loved the experience! We rented the laurel haven cabin. Great location on the river and close hike to Catawba falls. They have a coffee bar and we could purchase firewood and ice on site which was very convenient. The owners are so nice and very accommodating. There’s a couple breweries within a 5 minute drive. We plan on visiting again in this summer.
