Hurricane Landing Campground Introduce
For local residents seeking "camping near me" in Lafayette County, Mississippi, Hurricane Landing Campground, located in Lafayette County, MS 38601, USA, presents itself as an option, particularly for those primarily interested in fishing in the nearby lake. However, recent feedback from campers provides a candid look at the current state of the campground that potential visitors should carefully consider.
The primary draw of Hurricane Landing Campground appears to be its location, which caters to anglers looking for convenient access to the lake. As one reviewer noted, most campers are there to fish, suggesting that the campground serves as a functional base camp for fishing trips. The generally quiet atmosphere reported by a visitor could also be appealing to those seeking a peaceful environment focused on enjoying the natural surroundings and fishing activities rather than a lively, social camping experience.
However, several significant concerns have been raised by recent visitors regarding the maintenance and cleanliness of the campground. Multiple reviews highlight issues with the upkeep of the facilities and the campsites themselves. One camper described the bathrooms as "grungy and in need of repair," indicating a potential lack of adequate maintenance in this essential amenity. This is a crucial factor for many campers who rely on clean and functional restroom facilities during their stay.
The condition of the campsites has also been a point of concern. Reviews mention fire pits filled with ashes, suggesting a lack of regular cleaning between campers. Additionally, the impact pads were described as having "more weeds than gravel," and driveways reportedly had accumulations of "molding leaves or gravel scattered across them." These details paint a picture of a campground where general site maintenance may be lacking, potentially impacting the overall camping experience and the aesthetic appeal of the individual sites.
Litter and waste management also appear to be areas needing improvement. One reviewer noted the absence of litter pickup and mentioned that while each site has its own trash can, there was no trash collection or bathroom cleaning service observed from Thursday to Monday during their stay. Another camper lamented finding a "broken beer bottle" and a significant number of "cigarette butts" on their campsite upon arrival, emphasizing the need for better site cleanliness between visitors and potentially more proactive litter control throughout the campground.
Furthermore, concerns have been raised regarding the management of pets within the campground. One reviewer reported seeing "so many campers with off-leash dogs" that were not being cleaned up after, as well as the presence of a "large stray dog living here." These issues could be problematic for campers concerned about pet safety, hygiene, and adherence to campground rules regarding leashed animals.
Navigating the campground roads also seems to present challenges at times. Campers reportedly park their trucks towing boats "wherever they choose," occasionally making it difficult to maneuver through the loop roads to access individual campsites. This lack of designated parking or enforcement of parking guidelines could lead to congestion and frustration for campers trying to navigate the campground, especially those with larger vehicles or trailers.
On a more positive note, as mentioned earlier, the quiet atmosphere and the focus on fishing seem to be the primary advantages of Hurricane Landing Campground, according to the available reviews. If your priority is solely access to the lake for fishing and you prefer a quieter camping environment, these aspects might still make the campground a viable option for you. However, it is crucial to weigh these potential benefits against the reported issues with maintenance, cleanliness, and general upkeep.
Considering the information available, Hurricane Landing Campground currently does not appear to offer any specific promotional deals or incentives highlighted by recent visitors. The primary offering seems to be its location near the lake, catering specifically to fishing enthusiasts. However, the concerns raised about the condition of the facilities and the overall maintenance of the campground are significant factors that local users searching for "camping near me" should take into account.
In conclusion, while Hurricane Landing Campground provides a location convenient for fishing in Lafayette County, MS, potential local campers should be aware of the reported issues regarding bathroom cleanliness, campsite maintenance, litter control, pet management, and parking. If your camping needs primarily revolve around having a base camp for fishing and a quiet environment, and you are prepared for potentially less-than-ideal conditions regarding cleanliness and upkeep, Hurricane Landing Campground might suffice. However, those seeking well-maintained facilities and a cleaner overall environment may want to explore other "camping near me" options in the region.

Hurricane Landing Campground Reviews
It's a shame this place is being so neglected. The bathrooms are grungy and in need of repair. The campsites have firepits that are loaded with ashes, there's more weeds than gravel in the impact pads, and most driveways have piles of molding leaves or gravel scattered across them. I've never seen so many campers with off-leash dogs (which aren't being picked up after), and there's also a large stray dog living here. There's no one picking up litter, and while each site has their own trash can rather than a large dumpster for the whole campground, there was no trash pickup or bathroom cleaning from Thursday to Monday. Campers are also parking their pickups towing boats wherever they choose, and at times, it's hard to navigate the loop to get to your site. On the plus side, campers are pretty quiet, with most here to fish in the lake and no real partying going on.
Mar 26, 2025 · KatWins the award for most cigarette butts in one campsite! Grass had not been mowed in weeks and we had a broken beer bottle all over our campsite - I did cleanup that along with all the other trash (Leave No Trace). Facilities are what you would expect. This would suffice as base camp for your fishing trip.
Jul 01, 2023 · Jeffrey SwingJust fine for an overnight. Campsites are near each other and not secluded. Picnic table, grill, nice fire ring, and trashcan provided at each site. Bathroom is fine - metal potties and small shower stalls. Warm water plentiful.
Mar 31, 2024 · Carolee DavisNice campgrounds, showers, peaceful area. Need more things to do and more shade trees. Great Camp Host
Apr 06, 2022 · Janice AngleThis is a hidden gem, very spacious sites and very quite other than vehicle's flying up and down the road to the boat ramp. Plenty of shade trees, park for the kids and a clean bath house. Thanks for the peaceful stay.
