Indian Crossing Campground Introduce
Seeking "camping near me" in the picturesque landscapes of northeastern Utah? Indian Crossing Campground, located in Dutch John, UT 84023, USA, and reachable by phone at (435) 781-4400 or mobile at +1 435-781-4400, presents itself as a notable option for those looking to experience the natural beauty of the region, particularly its proximity to the renowned Green River. Based on available customer reviews, this introduction aims to provide local users with a detailed overview of Indian Crossing Campground, highlighting its environment, potential services, and key features to help you decide if it's the right "camping near me" destination for your next outdoor adventure.
Indian Crossing Campground is identified as a Bureau of Land Management (BLM) campground and day-use site, situated in the vicinity of Dutch John, Utah. This location is significant due to its close proximity to the Green River, a major waterway known for its stunning canyons, excellent fishing opportunities, and recreational activities. The area is also near the Flaming Gorge National Recreation Area, adding to its appeal for outdoor enthusiasts.
The environment of Indian Crossing Campground, as described by reviewers, is a key highlight. The campground offers "views of the river, the surrounding hills," contributing to a scenic and potentially tranquil camping experience. The presence of the Green River suggests opportunities for water-based activities such as fishing, boating, and potentially swimming, although specific access points and regulations should be verified. The surrounding hills likely provide a backdrop of natural beauty and may offer opportunities for hiking and exploration in the broader area.
One reviewer noted that more trees and shade would be desirable within the campground itself. This suggests that while the overall setting is attractive, individual campsites might offer limited natural shade, especially during the hotter parts of the day. Campers planning to visit during the summer months should be prepared for potential sun exposure and consider bringing their own shade structures if needed.
In terms of services, Indian Crossing Campground is described as "simple" and "basic," consistent with many BLM-managed sites. A significant amenity mentioned is a "decent boat ramp," which is a valuable feature for those planning to bring boats or engage in boating activities on the Green River. This boat ramp likely provides access for launching and retrieving various types of watercraft, enhancing the recreational opportunities associated with the campground.
Cleanliness of facilities is often a crucial factor for campers, and one reviewer specifically mentioned "clean pit toilets" at Indian Crossing Campground. While pit toilets are a basic amenity, their cleanliness is a positive indicator of site maintenance. It is important to note that "pit toilets" typically do not include running water or flushing capabilities. Campers should come prepared with their own hygiene supplies.
The campsites themselves are referred to as "basic," implying that they likely consist of designated areas for parking and setting up tents or RVs, possibly with a fire ring and picnic table. Hookups for water, electricity, or sewer are not mentioned, which is typical for many BLM campgrounds. RV travelers should be prepared for dry camping or boondocking, with self-contained water and power systems.
A unique feature of Indian Crossing Campground highlighted by a reviewer is a "nearby Osprey nest." Osprey are large raptors that often build prominent nests near water bodies, where they hunt for fish. The presence of a visible Osprey nest can be a significant attraction for birdwatchers and nature enthusiasts, offering opportunities for wildlife observation directly from or near the campground.
Another positive aspect mentioned in the reviews is the peaceful atmosphere. One camper noted that the campground was "not busy at all" during their visit, suggesting a more secluded and tranquil camping experience compared to more crowded or commercial campgrounds. This could be particularly appealing to those seeking a quiet retreat in nature.
While the reviews provide valuable insights into the environment and some of the services and features, they do not include any information regarding promotional offers or discounts. BLM campgrounds typically have a fee structure for overnight camping, and day-use areas may also have associated fees in some cases. It is essential for prospective visitors to check the official BLM website for the Dutch John area or contact the BLM field office directly at the provided phone number (likely the same as the campground number, so clarifying with a call is advisable) to inquire about current camping fees, reservation policies (if any), and any specific regulations or guidelines for Indian Crossing Campground.
In summary, Indian Crossing Campground near Dutch John, Utah, offers a "camping near me" experience characterized by its scenic location along the Green River, complete with a boat ramp and opportunities for wildlife viewing, including a nearby Osprey nest. While the campground is described as basic with clean pit toilets, the peaceful atmosphere and attractive views are significant draws. The potential lack of shade in some areas and the basic nature of the campsites suggest that campers should come prepared for a more rustic experience. To obtain detailed information on fees, reservations, and any specific amenities or regulations, contacting the BLM office in the Dutch John area is highly recommended.

Indian Crossing Campground Reviews
One of the highlights of our RV trip. It's a simple BLM campground/day use site with a decent boat ramp, clean pit toilets and basic sites - but the views of the river, the surrounding hills and the nearby Osprey nest made this a little gem.
May 15, 2024 · Eeluu JamaaGreat out of the way spot! Not,busy at all while we were there. It is right next to the Green River. More trees and shade would be nice, but overall a strong 4 stars.
Jun 09, 2021 · Michelle EkinsIn the middle of Green River fishing is this well kept secret. After a day of river fishing, enjoy the quiet and stars!
