Firefighters Memorial Campground Introduce
For local adventurers seeking "camping near me" amidst the stunning landscapes of Ashley National Forest near Dutch John, Utah, Firefighters Memorial Campground offers a well-regarded option for a memorable outdoor experience. Located on FR 195 within Ashley National Forest, Dutch John, UT 84023, USA, this campground has garnered positive feedback from visitors, particularly for its shaded campsites, proximity to scenic attractions like Flaming Gorge, and overall pleasant environment. While it operates without hookups at individual sites, it provides essential amenities for a comfortable stay.
One of the most appreciated features of Firefighters Memorial Campground, especially during the warmer months, is the abundance of shade. Reviewers have specifically mentioned that even when temperatures soared above 100 degrees Fahrenheit, the shade provided significant relief, making the outdoor areas more enjoyable and helping to keep the interiors of campers cooler. This natural shade is a considerable advantage, particularly during the peak summer camping season in Utah.
It is important to note that Firefighters Memorial Campground operates without individual site hookups for power, water, or sewer. This means that campers should be prepared for dry camping or boondocking conditions. However, the campground does offer convenient access to essential services. A dump station is available at the entrance for RVers to empty their holding tanks, and potable water is also accessible at the entrance for refilling containers. This setup allows for a more self-sufficient camping experience while still providing necessary facilities for waste disposal and water needs.
For those who prefer not to make reservations or find themselves planning a last-minute trip, Firefighters Memorial Campground offers a first-come, first-served section within at least one of its loops. A recent reviewer who did not have a reservation reported that there were "several spots open" in this section. Payment is typically made via a self-service system, with a fee of $26 reported by one visitor, payable by check in a box located near the entrance and the camp host. This first-come, first-served availability can be a significant benefit for spontaneous campers or those with flexible travel plans.
The infrastructure of the campground is also noteworthy. The presence of asphalt roads within the campground makes for easier navigation, whether driving or walking. One reviewer specifically mentioned enjoying riding their bikes through the campground and across the street to access the Bear Canyon Lookout trail. This trail leads to an overlook with stunning views of Flaming Gorge at sunset, highlighting the campground's prime location for accessing local scenic attractions and recreational opportunities.
Repeat visitors are a strong testament to the quality of a campground, and Firefighters Memorial Campground boasts such loyal guests. One reviewer enthusiastically shared that they have been camping there every year for the past few years for their summer camping trip. They mentioned enjoying both the river and the reservoir in the area, indicating the campground's strategic location for accessing various water-based activities. The reviewer also praised the campsites for offering "plenty of room" and generally found the bathrooms to be "nice," with a minor past instance of a porta-potty being a non-issue. This long-term positive experience underscores the consistent quality and appeal of the campground.

Firefighters Memorial Campground Reviews
Great overnight location. It was 100+ degrees but the shade definitely helped when we were outside and helped cool down the camper inside. No hookups (no power, no water, no sewer) but there's a dump station and potable water at the entrance. We didn't have a reservation but there were several spots open for the first come, first served section in our loop. Paid $26 with a check in the box near the entrance next to the camp host. It's nice that the roads are asphalt. We rode our bikes through the campground and across the street to the Bear Canyon Lookout trail down to the overlook over Flaming Gorge at sunset.
Aug 18, 2024 · So WickesitedLove camping here! Been going every year for the last few years for my summer camping trip. Done the river and the reservoir. The campsite is great. Plenty of room, bathrooms are nice (one year they had a porta potty instead, but no issue). Can't wait to go back this year!
May 17, 2023 · Matthew ClayI recently had the opportunity to visit Firefighters Memorial Campground, and overall, it was a great experience. The campground is surrounded by beautiful trees and is conveniently located near Cedar Springs Marina, providing easy access to water activities. However, one aspect to consider is the size of the sites. If you have a large 5th wheel or RV, it's important to ensure that the spot you reserve can accommodate your vehicle. Unfortunately, the sites are on the smaller side, which could pose a challenge for those with larger rigs. One issue we encountered during our stay was the campground's refund policy. Our friends mistakenly ended up in a different spot due to the size of their Rv than the one they had reserved, and the campground staff did not provide a refund for the extra spot they had to pay for. It's worth noting this potential inconvenience to avoid any surprises.Despite these considerations, the campground's scenic surroundings and proximity to the marina make it an attractive destination for outdoor enthusiasts. Just be sure to double-check the site size and clarify the refund policy before making your reservation.
Jul 10, 2023 · Stephanie HansenIt was great here with having many trees in the campground. There are lots of shade but some campground spots have tent pads and some don't.
Jun 18, 2024 · Tracy GarnerFlushable toilets that work. Enough said. The campground is well maintained and easy to find. The spots feel secluded I especially like the squares off tent space. It would be nice to be able to fit more small tents than one big one.
