Greens Lake Campground Introduce
For local users seeking "camping near me" and yearning for a picturesque lakeside retreat, Greens Lake Campground, nestled within the stunning Ashley National Forest near Dutch John, Utah (address: Ashley National Forest, Dutch John, UT 84023, USA), offers a promising escape. This campground provides a tranquil environment with opportunities for enjoying a beautiful non-motorized lake and the surrounding natural beauty. It's important for potential visitors to be aware of the specific site layouts and amenities to ensure a satisfying camping experience.
The primary draw of Greens Lake Campground is undoubtedly its proximity to Greens Lake itself. Reviews highlight the enjoyment of the lake, which is designated for non-motorized paddle craft only. This restriction helps maintain a peaceful atmosphere, ideal for kayaking, canoeing, and paddleboarding enthusiasts. Additionally, the lake offers catch-and-release fishing opportunities, though this requires permission from the adjacent Red Canyon Lodge. This unique arrangement suggests a collaborative management approach to preserve the lake's ecosystem and recreational value.
The campground itself is described as "nice" and features campsites scattered under pine trees. The presence of pines suggests a natural and potentially shaded environment, although one reviewer noted that shade availability varies significantly between sites. While their reserved site (#009) had some shade, others apparently offer no protection from the intense sun. This is a crucial consideration for campers, especially during the warmer months. For those prioritizing immediate lake access, the reviewer specifically recommends sites #7 or #8, as their map interpretation of site #009 being directly on the lake proved to be incorrect. It's advisable for prospective campers to carefully review the campground map and potentially seek clarification on site locations relative to the lake when making reservations.
The campground is managed by a contractor, and a host is present on-site. This suggests that there is likely a point of contact for assistance and information during your stay, contributing to a well-managed environment. The pricing is noted as $22 per night, with a discounted rate of $11 for seniors. This affordability, especially for seniors, makes Greens Lake Campground an attractive option for a range of campers.
In terms of amenities, Greens Lake Campground provides water spigots scattered around for easy access to potable water. Dumpsters are available for waste disposal, helping to keep the campground clean. The facilities also include vault toilets, which are common in more rustic campground settings. It's important for campers to be prepared for this type of restroom facility.
Connectivity is often a concern for campers, and Greens Lake Campground appears to offer decent cell signal for several major carriers, including Verizon, AT&T, and T-Mobile. This can be beneficial for staying in touch, accessing navigation tools, or even remote work if needed, while still enjoying the outdoors.
The campground has a total of 19 individual campsites and one group site. This relatively small size can contribute to a more intimate and less crowded camping experience. Some of the campsites are reservable, while others operate on a first-come, first-served basis (FF). This system offers flexibility for both those who plan ahead and those who prefer more spontaneous trips. Local users considering a visit should check the reservation availability, especially during peak season, through the provided phone number or the relevant recreation management platform.
One practical note for visitors is that the campground loop road is described as "a bit patchy" and having "some potholes." Campers, especially those with larger RVs or trailers, should be aware of this and drive carefully within the campground.
It is also important to note the reviewer's caution regarding some photos of Greens Lake found on Google, stating that they "do NOT depict the actual lake" and that the provided images with their review are of the "REAL Greens Lake." This highlights the importance of seeking reliable and verified images and information when planning your trip. Potential campers might want to look for official campground websites or reputable outdoor recreation platforms for accurate visuals.
While specific promotional information is not included in the reviews, the senior discount ($11 per night) can be considered a form of ongoing promotion for eligible campers. Local users who are seniors should certainly take advantage of this reduced rate. For any other potential discounts or special offers, it would be best to contact the campground directly through the provided phone number: (877) 444-6777 or +1 877-444-6777.
In summary, for local users searching for "camping near me" in a scenic lakeside setting, Greens Lake Campground in Ashley National Forest offers a great option, particularly for those who enjoy non-motorized boating and catch-and-release fishing. The campground provides basic amenities like water spigots, dumpsters, and vault toilets, and cell service is reportedly good for several carriers. While some sites offer shade and others don't, and immediate lakefront access is limited to specific sites (potentially #7 and #8), the overall environment under the pines is appealing. The combination of reservable and first-come, first-served sites, along with a senior discount, provides flexibility for different types of campers. Potential visitors should be mindful of the campground road conditions and verify site locations relative to the lake when booking. Contacting the campground directly for the most up-to-date information on reservations, availability, and any current promotions is highly recommended.

Greens Lake Campground Reviews
We really enjoyed the lake. The campground was nice, but we reserved site #009 because the map showed this site to be on the lake. It was NOT. In was on the inside of the loop. We had some shade at our site, which was good as the sun is very intense. Other sites have no shade. if you want to camp nearest the lake, select sites #7 or #8. Please note, some of the photos of Greens Lake on Google do NOT depict the actual lake. These are the pics of the REAL Greens Lake.
Jun 16, 2021 · Mary K.Great campground. Sites scattered under pines. Managed by a contractor and host onsite. $22/ $11 senior. Lake is non-motorized paddle craft only and a catch n release via permission from the adjacent Red Canyon Lodge. Water spigots scattered around, dumpsters, and vault toilets. Cell signal was good for verizon, att, TMobile. Some sites can be reserved and others are FF. Total of 19 sites and one group site. Campground loop road is a bit patchy and has some potholes.
Jun 11, 2021 · Untethered NomadGreens Lake Campground was peaceful, clean, scenic and not busy. Plenty of fresh water and the bathrooms were clean. Easy walk to Red Canyon lodge store and restaurant. Only downsides would be the lake is an extra charge of $5/day to fish (because it’s owned by Red Canyon Lodge) and the multiple potholes in the road. But on the plus side of that it does slow people down.
Jun 07, 2022 · Lady JetzAt ANY given time of the day…. No toilet paper in the ladies restrooms. I was a camp host. That never happened on my watch. Seriously…. The last log in was on May 10! It’s the 1st of June.
Jun 01, 2024 · Deserae WhickerNice campground. Normally has space. Beautiful view of lake. The last time we went there was no camp host and that caused a bit of confusion as sites weren't updated daily.
