Greendale Campground Introduce
Looking for a serene "camping near me" experience within the stunning Ashley National Forest in Utah? Consider Greendale Campground, located off Forest Road #187 in Red Canyon, UT 84023. You can reach them at (435) 789-1181 or +1 435-789-1181. Based on recent customer reviews, Greendale Campground offers a limited number of campsites in a potentially peaceful setting within the national forest. It's important for prospective visitors to be aware of the current water situation and the proximity to a nearby road and private RV park.
The Environment: Intimate Forest Setting with Potential Dust Issues
Greendale Campground is described as a "very nice" campground situated within Ashley National Forest, suggesting an environment characterized by natural beauty, including trees and potentially varied terrain. The campground is relatively small, with only 8 sites, which can contribute to a quieter and more intimate camping experience compared to larger campgrounds. One reviewer noted that the spacing between campsites was sufficient to provide a sense of privacy, which is a significant advantage for those seeking a secluded getaway. However, the level of shade at each site can vary, as one camper mentioned their site only had a couple of large trees, resulting in limited shade. This is something to consider when choosing a campsite, especially during warmer months. A potential environmental factor to be aware of is a "dusty dirt road adjacent to the CG that goes over to a pvt RV park." For campsites located closer to this side, dust from passing vehicles could be an issue. Despite this, the overall environment is likely one of natural forest beauty, offering a traditional camping experience within a national forest setting.
Services and Amenities: Basic Facilities with a Water System Outage
The amenities at Greendale Campground appear to be basic but functional. Vault toilets are open and were reported to be in "good condition" by one reviewer. This is a crucial amenity for any campground. A dumpster is located on-site for trash disposal, helping campers to adhere to Leave No Trace principles and keep the area clean. Each campsite is equipped with a fire pit, essential for campfires and cooking, as well as a spigot, although it's critical to note that the water system was reported as not functioning as of June 29-31 (likely a typo and meant around late June 2023 based on the October 2022 review). Therefore, campers should not rely on potable water being available at the campground and must bring their own supply. The presence of a dumpster indicates that trash disposal is managed. One reviewer also mentioned a spigot at their site, but given the water system issue, its functionality for water access is questionable. It's advisable to confirm the current status of the water system with the Forest Service before planning a trip. Cell signal was reported as "good" by one reviewer, which can be important for communication and accessing information, although signal strength can vary by carrier and location within the campground.
Features: Small Size, Privacy, and Proximity to Nature
A key feature of Greendale Campground is its small size, with only 8 single-family campsites. This limited number of sites often translates to a quieter and less crowded camping experience. The reported sufficient space between campsites enhances privacy, allowing campers to feel more secluded in nature. The provision of fire pits at each site encourages traditional camping activities like campfires and cooking outdoors. The location within Ashley National Forest provides immediate access to the natural beauty of the area, including opportunities for hiking, wildlife viewing, and enjoying the forest environment. It's important to distinguish Greendale Campground from the nearby Greendale Group Campground, which is located across the highway and is a separate camping unit designed for larger groups. The single-family sites at Greendale Campground cater to individuals and smaller groups seeking a more personal connection with nature. The good cell signal can be a feature for those who need to stay connected, although the primary draw is likely the natural setting and peaceful atmosphere.

Looking for a peaceful "camping near me" experience in the heart of Ashley National Forest? Greendale Campground offers a tranquil escape with its limited number of well-spaced campsites, providing a sense of privacy amidst the natural beauty of Utah. Imagine spending your nights by a cozy campfire (fire pits provided at each site) under the stars, surrounded by the quiet of the forest. While the campground offers basic amenities like vault toilets and a dumpster, it's crucial to be aware that the water system is currently not functioning, so you will need to bring your own water supply. Greendale Campground Reviews
This cg is very nice, only 8 sites and every other one is either reserved or FF. No water (water system seems is not functioning 6-2931) but vault toilets are open. Dusty dirt road adjacent to the CG that goes over to a pvt RV park may be an issue for sites close to that side. Dumpster on site. Cell signal good. Only 4 stars due to water system not working, otherwise 5 stars. NOTE that the GREENDALE GROUP CAMPGROUND is across the hwy and is a different camp unit from this Greendale Campground which is all single family sites
Jun 13, 2021 · Untethered NomadSolid campground. Bathrooms were in good condition and there was enough space between campsites that it felt private enough. Some of the sites have more trees than others; the one we used only had a couple of big trees, so there wasn't much shade. Would not recommend sleeping in a hammock. One, cuz of the lack of sturdy trees and two, cuz it can get pretty cold and windy at night. There is a fire pit onsite, as well as a spigot and a dumpster for trash by the bathroom.
Jul 22, 2022 · Jon KwongYour run of the mill camp ground with pit toilets/picnic tables/fire pit w/grill/potable water spigot/trash dumpster. No RV hook ups. Well maintained. Right next door to camp store/resort and watergear rental. We come back every year to this place :-) No complaints.
Jul 14, 2016 · Geanna GrangerIt’s a great place to go camping, super secluded and has a pretty night sky. Highly recommend!
May 26, 2024 · NathanIdyllic little place, a lot of space between the sites, no amenities or hookups - but if you come prepared, that should not be a problem... Much nicer than the rv park next to it, and cheaper...
