I would give it a 4 star. But to out-way all the negativity i give a five. This is a true camp ground! Yes its is old but it is rustic and authentic. Dirt and stone roads, lots of trees. Old school playground with a sand pit.We stayed in site 108D. We have a 18’x12’ tent and the site was spacious enough for us. (Family of 4+ a 75lb dog). The lake swimming area was small, but it was clean. The only issue we have is the bath houses. As though from previous reviews, it looks like they have replaced all the toilets recently. But overall the bath houses need to be updated in our five days. Stay there. I personally saw them clean both houses three times. Seems like every morning around 8-9. So they are clean. They’re just very old and falling apart. There is free laundry on the backside of both bathhouses. The camp store is much to be desired not much items to choose from but if you’re camping, you should have everything you need anyway.I have been camping my entire life, new campgrounds, old campgrounds, state parks. This is one of the few true campgrounds around. - Jonathan Harper

Indianhead Resort Introduce

For local users seeking "camping near me" in the Plymouth, Massachusetts area, Indianhead Resort, located at 1929 State Rd, Plymouth, MA 02360, USA, presents a camping option with a distinctly rustic and old-school feel. Situated approximately a mile from the beach, this campground offers a natural environment with a lake for swimming and some basic amenities. However, recent customer reviews provide a mixed perspective, highlighting both its authentic campground atmosphere and significant limitations, particularly for larger RVs, as well as concerns about the facilities and pricing.

Environment:

Indianhead Resort is described by one reviewer as a "true campground" with a "rustic and authentic" atmosphere. The terrain features "dirt and stone roads" and "lots of trees," creating a natural and shaded environment. For those who appreciate a more traditional camping experience reminiscent of older campgrounds, this might be appealing. The presence of an "old school playground with a sand pit" suggests a family-friendly environment, although perhaps with older amenities. The campground also boasts a lake with a "small, but clean" swimming area, offering a water-based recreational option for campers.

However, another reviewer paints a less favorable picture of the environment, particularly for RVs. They describe the campground as "primitive as can be" with "completely uneven and small" sites. This could make leveling and maneuvering larger campers challenging. The abundance of trees, while contributing to shade, might also pose issues for larger vehicles navigating the campground roads and sites.

The proximity to Plymouth Beach (about a mile away) is a significant environmental advantage, offering campers easy access to the ocean and its associated recreational activities.

Services and Features:

Indianhead Resort offers a range of services and features, although some have received mixed reviews:

  • Spacious Tent Sites (Potentially): One reviewer with an 18'x12' tent found their site (108D) to be "spacious enough" for a family of four and a large dog. This suggests that tent campers might find suitable accommodations.
  • Limited RV Friendliness: Multiple warnings are given against bringing RVs of 22' or longer due to uneven and small sites, difficulty maneuvering, and potential issues with sewer hookups and electricity.
  • Small, Clean Lake Swimming Area: A lake on the property offers a swimming area that was reported to be clean.
  • Free Laundry: A notable amenity is the availability of "free laundry on the backside of both bathhouses," which is a significant cost saving for campers.
  • Clean but Old Bathhouses: While one reviewer acknowledged that the toilets appeared to have been recently replaced and noted that the bathhouses were cleaned daily, they also emphasized that the facilities are "very old and falling apart" and in need of updating.
  • Limited Camp Store: The camp store is described as having "much to be desired" with not many items to choose from. Campers are advised to bring all necessary supplies.
  • Uneven Sites: Multiple reviews mention that the campsites are uneven, which can be problematic for leveling RVs and setting up tents comfortably.
  • Limited Electricity: One RV camper reported issues with the electrical supply, stating that the voltage was significantly lower than expected (around 100-102 volts on a 30 amp hookup), potentially insufficient for running multiple appliances.
  • Sewer Hookup Issues: One reviewer with an RV was unable to use their sewer hookup due to the site layout preventing them from unhitching their truck.
  • Old School Playground: An older playground with a sand pit is available for children.

The contrasting experiences highlight the importance of understanding the limitations of Indianhead Resort, particularly for RV campers. While tent sites might be adequate, RVs, especially larger ones, are likely to encounter significant challenges.

Customer Experiences and Reviews:

The customer reviews for Indianhead Resort present a polarized view. One reviewer, with extensive camping experience, found it to be one of the "few true campgrounds around," appreciating its rustic and authentic feel. They acknowledged the age of the bathhouses but noted their cleanliness and the availability of free laundry. They also found their tent site spacious enough.

However, the other detailed review strongly advises against bringing RVs over 22 feet, citing uneven and small sites, difficulty with sewer and electrical hookups, and a perceived "rip off" price of $65 per night for a "far from resort feel." This reviewer experienced very low voltage on their 30 amp connection. They also mentioned a negative initial interaction regarding an early check-in fee and expressed concern about strict rules that could lead to eviction without a refund.

This reviewer also claimed that the pictures on the resort's website are largely not representative of the actual campground, suggesting potential misrepresentation. They sarcastically noted that "spots are open for a reason" and advised others to "stay away."

The stark contrast between these two reviews indicates that the experience at Indianhead Resort can vary greatly depending on the type of camping (tent vs. RV) and individual expectations regarding amenities and site conditions. Tent campers seeking a rustic experience might find it acceptable, while RV owners, especially those with larger rigs, are likely to be disappointed and face practical challenges.

Promotional Information:

The provided information does not include any specific promotional offers or discounts for Indianhead Resort. The campground's potential promotional points might include its proximity to Plymouth Beach, its rustic and traditional campground atmosphere, the availability of a lake for swimming, and the free laundry facilities. However, the negative review's claim about misleading website photos suggests that potential promotional material should be viewed with caution.

Local users interested in any potential promotions or special rates should contact Indianhead Resort directly via phone at (508) 888-3688 or +1 508-888-3688. Given the conflicting reviews, it would be wise to ask detailed questions about site sizes, levelness, electrical capacity, and the condition of the facilities, especially if planning to camp with an RV.

The fact that one reviewer considers it a "true campground" might appeal to those specifically seeking a more natural and less commercialized camping experience. However, the other reviewer's strong negative feedback regarding RV accommodations and pricing should also be seriously considered.

Conclusion:

Indianhead Resort in Plymouth, MA, offers a rustic and traditional campground experience with a lake for swimming and the significant advantage of being located about a mile from Plymouth Beach. Tent campers seeking a more old-school atmosphere might find it adequate, with one reviewer describing spacious tent sites and appreciating the free laundry. However, the campground appears to have significant limitations for RVs, particularly those 22 feet or longer, with reports of uneven and small sites, difficulties with hookups, and inadequate electrical power. The bathhouses, while reportedly cleaned daily, are described as very old and in need of updating.

The pricing, deemed a "rip off" by one RV camper, should also be a consideration. Local users considering Indianhead Resort should carefully weigh the potential benefits of its location and rustic charm against the reported drawbacks, especially if planning to camp with an RV. It is strongly recommended to contact the campground directly with specific questions about site suitability, amenities, and current conditions, and to be aware of the contrasting opinions expressed in the available reviews. The claim of misleading website photos further underscores the need for thorough and direct inquiry before booking a stay at Indianhead Resort.
