Based on feedback from fellow campers, Ironwood Group Campground presents a surprising and memorable experience. One reviewer likened its atmosphere to the scenic Ponderosa Ranch, evoking a sense of natural beauty and spaciousness. A particularly noteworthy aspect highlighted by a visitor is the integration of Christian faith-based lessons with the wonders of science and nature. This unique approach suggests that Ironwood offers more than just a typical camping trip; it provides an opportunity for spiritual reflection and learning within a natural setting. The coordinator, Stephen, is highly praised as a dedicated leader, fostering an environment that creates lasting memories. Christian organizations seeking a meaningful retreat in nature are strongly encouraged to consider Ironwood.
The campground itself is described as a nice and isolated location, requiring approximately 30 to 45 minutes of travel from Fawnskin. While a 4-wheel drive vehicle may not be strictly necessary (as evidenced by a minivan sighting), the road leading to the campsite is reported to be quite rough. This remoteness contributes significantly to the peaceful ambiance, with the nearest neighboring campsite situated about half a mile away, ensuring a sense of privacy and seclusion. Nature enthusiasts will appreciate the frequent sightings of deer. However, it's important to be aware of the local wildlife, as one visitor encountered a 5-foot rattlesnake within their campsite. While the snake simply moved along its way, this observation underscores the need for caution and awareness of the natural surroundings.
In terms of amenities, Ironwood Group Campground is equipped with four large picnic tables, providing ample space for group meals and activities. For food storage and safety, three bear boxes are available, which is crucial for responsible camping in bear country. While the area can get hot, the abundance of trees offers excellent shade, creating a more comfortable environment during warmer periods. It is important to note that the campground does not have running water, and the only restroom facility is a pit toilet. Campers should come prepared with their own water supply for drinking, cooking, and hygiene.
The terrain for tent camping offers limited flat spaces outside of the designated parking area. Visitors estimate that approximately four tents can be comfortably accommodated in the non-parking areas. Some portions of the parking area are also relatively flat and could potentially accommodate additional tents if needed. Groups planning to camp at Ironwood should consider the limited flat tent space when making arrangements.
In summary, Ironwood Group Campground, as listed on the 'Camping Near Me' platform, offers a unique and secluded camping experience in a natural forest setting in California. Its key features include:
- Isolated Location: Enjoy peace and quiet away from other campers.

Ironwood Group Campground Reviews
Ironwood was absolutely surprising! It reminded me of the Ponderosa from the TV show Bonanza. The Christian faith-based lessons integrated with science and nature were spot on...Stephen the coordinator is 100% a true leader sent by God. I could see the Holy Spirit in him! God bless him, his family, and the entire Ironwood crew. They've created and sustained an environment that provided us memories that will last a lifetime. I highly encourage any Christian organization to book a reservation. You will not be disappointed!
Nov 08, 2024 · The Great RestorationThis is a nice, isolated campsite. It takes about 30-45 min to get to it from Fawnskin. While 4WD wasn't needed for us, the road is pretty rough. I did see a minivan out there though. The next closest campsite is about 1/2 mile away. It's very peaceful not having other campers near you. We did see deer everyday. There was a 5' rattlesnake that appeared in the middle of our site. We didn't notice it until it was about 5' from our dog. We just got out of its way and it continued along its path. There are four large picnic tables and three bear boxes for food. It was really hot during our stay, but the trees provided great shade. There is no running water and only a pit toilet. The flat spaces for tents is limited. Not including the parking area, you could probably get 4 tents. Some of the parking area is flat as well.
Jul 08, 2024 · Jacob WittlerI did not stay here. I walked here from yellow post number six. I didn't check to see if there's a fee to stay at this site. But in another comment, someone mentioned $115 a night for the group site. There seems to be a parking driveway area for the cars. Then a line of big rocks to separate the parking from the actual campground. There were four tables, three bear boxes, and a vaulted toilet covered by 4 wooden walls. The areas to pitch a tent are decent but some areas would have to be on a slight slope. Or you can get your truck between a couple of the rocks and put your roof top tent up too.You can walk off in many directions to explore. There is a trail from this site leaving down somewhere but we didn't check it out.
Feb 24, 2023 · Lisa HaI didn't actually stay here, but at the nearby yellow post sites. The yellow post sites do not have vault toilets, but this campground does! With toilet paper! So if you want to experience the backwoods, but cant stand the thought of pooping in a hole you dug, just drive less than a mile down the road here. I camped in the area 2 years ago, not sure if much has changed. This dead end road used to continue but is blocked off now.
