Jackalope Campground Introduce
For local users exploring "camping near me" options in the Sheridan, Wyoming area, Jackalope Campground presents a somewhat mixed picture based on recent customer reviews. It's crucial to consider both the positive and negative feedback to determine if this campground aligns with your specific needs and expectations. This introduction aims to provide an objective overview of Jackalope Campground based solely on the provided user reviews.
Environment: More of a Functional Stopover Than a Traditional Campground
Several reviewers describe the environment of Jackalope Campground as unconventional. One user explicitly stated, "It’s not really a campground. It’s gravel lot with services behind an RV repair shop." This suggests that the aesthetic and atmosphere might not be what one typically expects from a traditional campground nestled in nature. The presence of a gravel lot as the primary camping area could impact the overall camping experience, potentially lacking the greenery and natural ground cover often associated with campgrounds.
Another reviewer mentioned that "I-90 is right in front," indicating close proximity to a major interstate highway. While this offers easy access, as also noted by a more positive reviewer who called it a "great spot for a one night stop over," it also raises potential concerns about noise levels. However, the same reviewer qualified this by saying, "luckily the I-90 is not a very busy highway, so not too noisy." This suggests that while the interstate is nearby, the noise might be manageable for some.
The description of being "behind an RV repair shop" could be seen as both a convenience and a drawback. On the one hand, as one reviewer noted, the "parts store located on the grounds which is very well stocked" can be incredibly helpful for RVers needing repairs or supplies. They even recounted a positive experience where the store helped them fix their water system. On the other hand, the immediate surroundings might lack the scenic beauty and natural ambiance often sought in a camping experience.
Services and Amenities: Basic Hookups with Inconsistencies
In terms of services, Jackalope Campground does offer "full hookups and 30/50A service," which was a positive surprise for one reviewer who considered it impressive for a small RV park. Full hookups typically include water, sewer, and electrical connections, providing essential services for RV travelers. The availability of both 30 and 50 Amp service caters to different RV power requirements.
However, other aspects of the services and amenities received negative feedback. One reviewer reported that the "sewer connection was not properly attached," although they managed to make it work. Another mentioned "very low water pressure at the site," which could impact the comfort and convenience of water usage within the RV. Additionally, the internet service was described as "painfully slow," with the reviewer relying on their personal hotspot instead.
The laundry room also had issues, with "no change machine" and one of the "dryers does not get very warm." These inconveniences could be frustrating for campers needing to do laundry, especially during longer stays.
A significant concern raised by one reviewer was the apparent lack of staff presence, stating, "No staff anywhere to be seen in 3 days." This absence of on-site staff could be problematic for addressing issues, enforcing rules, or providing assistance to campers.
On a positive note, one reviewer highlighted that the "showers are great, they have great pressure and hot water and nice big shower rooms." This is a significant amenity for many campers, and positive feedback in this area is noteworthy.
However, the lack of basic campground amenities such as "no picnic tables, no fire pits" was also mentioned as a drawback. These are common features that many campers expect and contribute to the outdoor living experience.
Features: Primarily a Functional Base with Limited Traditional Camping Features
Based on the reviews, the primary feature of Jackalope Campground seems to be its functionality as a stopover for RV travelers, particularly due to its easy access off I-90 and the presence of the RV parts store. The "fairly level" sites were also mentioned as a positive aspect, making it easier to set up RVs.
However, the campground appears to lack many of the features typically associated with a more recreational camping experience, such as picnic tables, fire pits, and potentially other communal areas or activities. The proximity to the RV repair shop and the gravel lot environment further suggest a focus on practicality over traditional campground aesthetics and amenities.
The positive mention of clean, hot showers with good pressure is a notable feature that adds to the comfort of a stay.
The response from the owner to a negative review indicates a potential point of contention regarding refunds and on-site staffing, suggesting that these might be areas where improvements could be needed.
Promotional Information: No Specific Promotions Mentioned
The provided information does not contain any details about specific promotional offers or discounts at Jackalope Campground. Local users considering this campground should inquire directly about any potential special rates for local residents, off-season discounts, or package deals, especially if planning an extended stay or utilizing the RV repair services.
It would be prudent to check their website (if available) or contact them via phone to inquire about any current promotions that might be relevant to local campers.
Overall Assessment for Local Users Seeking "Camping Near Me": Proceed with Realistic Expectations
For local users searching for "camping near me" in the Sheridan, WY area, Jackalope Campground appears to be a no-frills option that primarily caters to RVers needing a functional stopover or access to RV repair services. Its proximity to I-90 offers convenience for those passing through or wanting easy access to the highway for exploring the region.
However, potential campers should be aware of the reported drawbacks, including the gravel lot environment, low water pressure, slow internet, issues with laundry facilities, and the potential lack of on-site staff. The absence of traditional campground amenities like picnic tables and fire pits might also be a deterrent for those seeking a more traditional outdoor camping experience.
The clean and well-pressured showers are a significant positive aspect. Additionally, the presence of a well-stocked RV parts store with helpful staff can be a major benefit for RV owners.
Given the mixed reviews, local users should carefully weigh their priorities. If a basic site with full hookups for an overnight stop or as a base for exploring the area (with the potential convenience of the RV repair shop) is the primary need, and you are prepared for some potential inconveniences, Jackalope Campground might suffice. However, if you are seeking a more traditional campground environment with natural surroundings, a range of amenities, and readily available staff, the reviews suggest that "there are other, better choices in the area," as one user explicitly stated.
Recommendation: Contact Directly and Manage Expectations
Before making a booking, local users are strongly encouraged to contact Jackalope Campground directly at (307) 673-5553 or +1 307-673-5553 to inquire about the current conditions, amenities, and any available promotions. It would be beneficial to ask specific questions about water pressure at sites, internet reliability, on-site staff availability, and the presence or absence of picnic tables and fire pits. Managing expectations based on the existing reviews and the information obtained directly from the campground will be key to a satisfactory experience.

Jackalope Campground Reviews
• I booked based on other reviews; I don’t understand why it has such high ratings.• It’s not really a campground. It’s gravel lot with services behind an RV repair shop.• One night would be okay, I unfortunately booked 3, otherwise I would have left after 1.• Site was fairly level.• No picnic tables, no fire pits.• Sewer connection was not properly attached, but I made it work.• Very low water pressure at the site.• Internet painfully slow, my Rogers Hot Spot however worked great.• No change machine in the laundry room.• One of the dryers does not get very warm.• No staff anywhere to be seen in 3 days.• Lots of rules, but no one around to enforce them.• Showers are great, they have great pressure and hot water and nice big shower rooms.• I-90 is right in front, luckily the I-90 is not a very busy highway, so not too noisy.• There are other, better choices in the area.** In response to the owners comments, if you wanted to refund you would have, and long weekend or not, someone should be on site.
Sep 18, 2024 · Dale GJackalope campground is a great spot for a one night stop over or base camp for exploring the area. The showers were clean, hot and had great pressure. Also needed a few things from the parts store located on the grounds which is very well stocked. They helped me get my water system back up and running after a low point drain broke off on a gravel road.
Jun 08, 2024 · Scott MacAlpineGreat spot on way to Yellowstone. Bathhouse was clean and tidy. Hot shower. Dog run. Quiet night. No frills gravel lot but having stopped a few nights at places with no hookups this place was ideal. Easy to register and pay. Well run facilities and respectful guests. Thanks for the hospitality!
Jul 08, 2024 · Joe BroyRebecca and the folks that work there are nice the store is tremendous. We stayed semi long term, the rates are better than the campgrounds around.they have a dog. Park and the sites are parking lot style.Just basic. The highway noise is heavy, but it did not bother us. Not sure if they have a laundry tho. It is a safe place to stay. Wal-Mart is very close, just a few minutes away. I would stay here again. Thank you,Jackalope Campground. BTW they will hold mail too for pick up free.
May 30, 2024 · Dianna ThackwellNot sure about all these great reviews- this was the more disappointing RV “campgrounds” we’ve stayed at. It’s a gravel lot with narrow spaces, no trees (except on one side next to the highway), no shade, and not scenic, as the website implies. It’s in an industrial area and it’s not been made to look welcoming or restful. We almost left to try and find somewhere else, but were too tired after driving all day. What a disappointment. The staff was friendly, and we did appreciate the hook ups, but I wouldn’t recommend this place to anyone, unless you don’t have any other options.
