I enjoyed the fact that there is so much shade in the camp sites. We didn't even have to put up our screened canopy. I did not like the fact that getting to the water, there is only one path and it goes through the middle of a camp site. Getting our kayak down to the docks, straight up sucked. But that was mostly because the people camping along the path. The bathrooms are clean. They are kept stocked. There were 2 bathrooms in close walking distance. I definitely recommend this campground if you have a kid free weekend and just want to Lounge around - Elaina Riemer

Kamloops Island Campground Introduce

Are you searching for "camping near me" in the Kettle Falls, Washington area that offers a blend of natural beauty and essential amenities? Consider Kamloops Island Campground, located at Northport Flat Creek Rd, Kettle Falls, WA 99141, USA. Situated in a potentially picturesque location near Roosevelt Lake, this campground has garnered both positive and cautionary feedback from recent visitors, providing a balanced perspective for prospective campers.

The environment surrounding Kamloops Island Campground appears to be a significant draw. Several reviewers mention the beauty of the site, suggesting a naturally appealing setting. One particularly appreciated feature is the abundance of shade within the campsites. According to one camper, the shade was so extensive that they didn't even need to set up a screened canopy, highlighting the comfort provided during warmer months. This shade would be particularly welcome during the summer, offering a cool and pleasant camping experience.

The campground's proximity to water, presumably Roosevelt Lake, is another key environmental aspect. While the access to the water has some noted drawbacks (discussed in features), the presence of the lake suggests opportunities for various water-related activities such as fishing and kayaking, enhancing the overall appeal for those seeking "camping near me" with water access.

Based on the provided reviews, Kamloops Island Campground offers a mix of services and features, some of which are highly appreciated while others present considerations for potential campers:

Shaded Campsites: As mentioned earlier, the ample shade at the campsites is a significant positive feature, contributing to a more comfortable camping experience, especially during hot weather.

Clean Bathrooms: Multiple reviewers specifically mention the cleanliness of the bathrooms. One camper noted that there were two bathrooms within close walking distance and that they were kept stocked, indicating a commitment to hygiene and convenience for guests.

Walk-in Tent Spots: For those who prefer a more secluded tent camping experience, Kamloops Island Campground offers walk-in tent spots. One reviewer who used these sites mentioned they were happy with their stay and would return, suggesting a positive experience for those willing to carry their gear a short distance.

National Park Service Presence: The campground is regularly visited by National Park Service staff, which could imply a level of oversight, maintenance, and potentially ranger assistance or information available to campers.

Limited Water Access Path: A notable drawback mentioned by a reviewer is that there is only one path to access the water, and this path goes through the middle of a campsite. This could create inconvenience and a lack of privacy for the campers whose site the path traverses.

Difficult Kayak Access: For those intending to bring kayaks or other watercraft, getting them to the docks is described as challenging due to the shared path and potentially inconsiderate campers along the way. This is an important consideration for water sports enthusiasts.

Highway Noise: One reviewer noted that noise from the highway was a "bit of a bummer" and that occasional trucks or motorcycles might be disruptive, potentially waking campers up. This suggests that some campsites may be located close enough to a road to experience noise pollution.

Non-Potable Water: A critical piece of information is that there is no potable (drinkable) water available at the campground. Campers are explicitly advised to pack in plenty of their own water for all their needs, including drinking, cooking, and hygiene.

Pit Toilets: While the bathrooms are described as clean, one reviewer specified that they are pit toilets. While pit toilets can be well-maintained, they are a more basic type of restroom facility compared to flush toilets.

To obtain the most accurate and up-to-date information about the services and features at Kamloops Island Campground, it is advisable to contact them directly using the provided phone number: (877) 444-6777 or +1 877-444-6777. When you call, be sure to inquire about:

Campsite Types and Availability: Ask about the different types of campsites available (e.g., RV sites, tent sites, walk-in sites), their sizes, and whether they have any hookups (though likely not for water given the "no potable water" review). Inquire about availability and the reservation process.

Water Access and Dock Information: Seek clarification on the path to the water and the facilities at the docks. Ask if there are any designated areas for launching and storing kayaks or other small watercraft.

Noise Levels at Different Sites: If highway noise is a concern, inquire about which campsites might be more or less affected by it.

Water Situation: Reconfirm the lack of potable water and ask if there are any nearby water sources (though you should always treat any natural water before consumption).

Regulations Regarding Waste Disposal: Understand the campground's rules for disposing of trash and wastewater, especially given the lack of running water at individual sites.

Pet Policy: If you plan to bring pets, inquire about their pet policy, including any restrictions or designated areas.

Firewood Policy: Ask about the rules for campfires and whether firewood is available for purchase or if you need to bring your own.

Regarding promotional information, the reviews do not mention any specific discounts or special offers. However, it is always worth inquiring about any potential promotions when you contact Kamloops Island Campground directly. They might have seasonal rates, multi-night discounts, or other special offers that are not mentioned in the public reviews. The fact that the campground is visited by National Park Service staff might also mean that it adheres to federal recreation fees or offers passes, so it's worth asking about any associated costs or permits.

For local users searching for "camping near me," Kamloops Island Campground offers a compelling option, particularly for those who value shaded campsites and clean bathroom facilities. The beautiful location near Roosevelt Lake is also a significant draw. However, potential campers should be aware of the non-potable water situation and the potential for highway noise. The limited and inconvenient water access for carrying equipment like kayaks is also a factor to consider for water sports enthusiasts.

The campground seems to cater to those seeking a more relaxed experience, as suggested by the reviewer who recommended it for a "kid free weekend" focused on lounging. The presence of walk-in tent sites also appeals to those who prefer a slightly more secluded and traditional camping experience.

In conclusion, Kamloops Island Campground near Kettle Falls, WA, offers a beautiful and shaded camping environment with clean facilities. However, prospective campers should be prepared for the lack of potable water and potential highway noise. The water access situation, particularly for carrying equipment, is also a point to consider. By contacting the campground directly at (877) 444-6777 or +1 877-444-6777, local users can obtain more detailed information to determine if Kamloops Island Campground meets their specific needs for their next "camping near me" adventure.
