Kelly Pines Equestrian Campground

Marienville, PA 16239, USA

Park is very nice, this is a rattlesnake habitat and do NOT bring your dog, move carefully on the trails. Bring a snake bite kit because this place is very remote. Trails are beautiful and very hilly. There is a sharp turn into the camp and a bridge. Lots of online chatter about how big your rig can be to get into the park. Do not worry about it. If you had a 30-40 foot trailer, you will have no issues getting into the campground. My friend hooked up including her truck was at 46' and had no issues making the turn. The park is VERY hard to find. Do NOT follow the Google directions, instead, look for the Marienville Gun Club or the Summers Camp signs off of Route 66 and go into the campsite passing the gun club and you won't get lost. Do NOT go down Goat Road. Campsite 4 is the only double campsite, it is next to a creek and is shady. Campsite 3 is also very lovely. All the sites are nice, but campsites 3 and 4 are the best ones. - Gael Orr

Kelly Pines Equestrian Campground Introduce

For local outdoor enthusiasts seeking a unique and potentially challenging "camping near me" experience, Kelly Pines Equestrian Campground, located near Marienville, PA 16239, USA, offers a beautiful but remote natural setting. While the name suggests an equestrian focus, the campground also welcomes non-equestrian campers looking to explore its scenic, albeit hilly, trails. It's crucial for prospective visitors to be aware of certain environmental factors and access considerations to ensure a safe and enjoyable trip.

The environment of Kelly Pines Equestrian Campground is described as "very nice" with "beautiful and very hilly" trails, appealing to hikers and those who enjoy exploring rugged terrain. However, it's essential to note that this area is a "rattlesnake habitat," a significant environmental factor that requires caution. The reviews strongly advise against bringing dogs due to this risk and recommend moving carefully on the trails. Given the remote location, bringing a snake bite kit is suggested as a precautionary measure. Despite these warnings, the natural beauty of the area seems to be a major draw for those prepared for the conditions. Specific details about the types of trees, vegetation, or water features (besides a creek near campsite 4) are not extensively mentioned, but the overall impression is of a natural, potentially wild, and somewhat secluded woodland environment.

Services and features at Kelly Pines Equestrian Campground appear to be somewhat basic, aligning with a more rustic and remote camping experience. One key piece of information is the cost for non-equestrian sites, which was mentioned as "$15 per night." This affordable rate might appeal to budget-conscious campers. While the reviews don't detail specific amenities like restrooms, showers, or hookups at each site, the mention of campsite 4 being next to a creek suggests that some sites may offer natural water access (though likely not potable). The fact that it's described as an "equestrian campground" implies the presence of facilities for horses, such as hitching posts or possibly designated trails for riding, although this is not explicitly confirmed in the provided text. The information about campsite 4 being a "double campsite" and shady, along with campsite 3 also being "very lovely," indicates some variation in site characteristics, allowing campers to choose based on their needs and preferences. The lack of detailed amenity information suggests that campers should likely come prepared with their own supplies and be self-sufficient.

A significant feature of Kelly Pines Equestrian Campground, and one that receives considerable attention in the reviews, is the access to the campground itself. There is "lots of online chatter about how big your rig can be to get into the park," which can be a concern for those with larger trailers or RVs. However, a recent review clarifies that these concerns are likely overstated. According to this camper, even with a 46-foot combined length (truck and 30-40 foot trailer), there were "no issues making the turn" into the camp, which involves a "sharp turn" and a bridge. This information is valuable for local users with larger camping setups who might have been hesitant due to online discussions. Another crucial feature is the specific directions to find the campground, as it is noted to be "VERY hard to find" if relying on standard GPS directions. The advice is to "look for the Marienville Gun Club or the Summers Camp signs off of Route 66 and go into the campsite passing the gun club," explicitly warning visitors to "Do NOT follow the Google directions" and to "Do NOT go down Goat Road." This detailed guidance is essential for local users planning a visit to avoid getting lost.

Currently, the only explicit promotional information is the "$15 per night" fee for non-equestrian sites. This very reasonable price point could be considered a significant draw for local campers seeking an affordable outdoor experience. Given the unique characteristics of the campground – its equestrian focus, remote location, and the need for specific directions – any potential promotions might be related to off-season stays or group bookings (although this is speculative based on the limited information). Local users interested in the most up-to-date pricing and any special offers should likely seek out official information sources or contact the relevant authorities managing the campground, as no direct contact information (phone number or website) is provided in the text.

The customer reviews offer a mixed but informative perspective on Kelly Pines Equestrian Campground. The positive aspects include the natural beauty of the trails and the affordability for non-equestrian campers. The clarification regarding large RV access is also a significant benefit for that segment of the camping community. However, the critical warnings about the rattlesnake habitat and the strong recommendation against bringing dogs are crucial pieces of information that potential visitors must take seriously. The difficulty in finding the campground using standard GPS and the need to follow specific, alternative directions is another key consideration. The mention of campsite 4 being a desirable, shady double site by a creek, and campsite 3 also being lovely, provides helpful insights for those planning to stay. The long-term visitor who has been coming since 1975 and notes that "the place looks great" offers a positive historical perspective, suggesting that the campground has maintained its appeal over the years.

In conclusion, Kelly Pines Equestrian Campground near Marienville, PA, offers local users a scenic and affordable "camping near me" option, particularly for those interested in hiking and potentially equestrian activities. However, it's vital to be aware of the significant presence of rattlesnakes and the associated risks, making it unsuitable for dog owners and requiring caution on the trails. The campground's remote location necessitates following specific directions, bypassing standard GPS routes. The accessibility for large RVs seems better than some online discussions suggest. With non-equestrian site fees at a low $15 per night, it presents a budget-friendly option for adventurous campers prepared for the natural environment and navigational challenges. Local users seeking a more rugged and potentially secluded camping experience in a beautiful, hilly setting should consider Kelly Pines, keeping the safety warnings and access information firmly in mind.
