Klum Landing Campground

Ashland, OR 97520, USA

4.0
Ok, where to start. It is very beautiful here and watch out for the deer as they will ravage your camp if you leave anything out. The raccoons too. I wish that Jackson county would sell this campground to me. I would take much better care of it. We were there for 5 days and even though the county worker came every single day, the bathrooms did not get cleaned the whole time. The wind blows every day here so the dirt gets everywhere which is part of camping but it's why the bathrooms do need to get cleaned. This place is a major stop for the folks hiking the Pacific Crest trail and we got to meet some of them which was nice. There is no camp host here so you have to go to the resort for firewood and anything else and pay a premium for everything there. We wont camp there again unless I get a call from the county telling me that they will sell it to me. - jim blower

Are you searching for "camping near me" in the Ashland, Oregon area? Klum Landing Campground, located in Ashland, OR 97520, USA, reachable by phone at (541) 774-6301 or +1 541-774-6301, offers a potentially beautiful natural setting. Based on the available online reviews, the campground has both appealing aspects and areas where improvements may be needed.

One reviewer began by acknowledging the beauty of the location and cautioned about wildlife, specifically deer and raccoons, which they noted would "ravage your camp if you leave anything out." This suggests an environment where wildlife interaction is common, requiring campers to take precautions to secure their belongings. This reviewer stayed for five days and observed that while a county worker visited daily, the bathrooms were not cleaned during their entire stay. They attributed the accumulation of dirt to the daily wind, emphasizing the need for regular cleaning. A positive aspect mentioned was that Klum Landing is a "major stop for the folks hiking the Pacific Crest trail," providing an opportunity to meet thru-hikers, which this reviewer found enjoyable. However, they also pointed out the absence of a camp host, requiring campers to go to a nearby resort for firewood and other necessities, where they would face "premium" prices. Ultimately, this reviewer stated they would not camp there again unless the county offered to sell them the campground, implying a desire for better management.

The second review expressed dissatisfaction, noting that the water level was "so low due to dam work that you can't put a boat in," which would be a significant drawback for those hoping to enjoy water activities. This reviewer also mentioned "no fish" and the lack of a camp host. Despite these limitations, they pointed out that campers still have to pay $20.00, even for a short stay of eight hours that doesn't extend overnight, suggesting that the pricing might not align with the current conditions and available amenities. They did note that "day useage is cheaper," implying a better value for those not staying overnight.

Based on these reviews, the environment of Klum Landing Campground is described as beautiful, with the presence of deer and raccoons being a notable characteristic. Its location as a stop on the Pacific Crest Trail adds a unique element for those interested in interacting with long-distance hikers. However, the environment also includes windy conditions that contribute to dirt accumulation.

In terms of services and features, the reviews highlight both positives and negatives. The proximity to the Pacific Crest Trail is a feature that attracts a specific group of visitors. However, the absence of a camp host means that campers need to rely on a nearby resort (at a premium cost) for supplies like firewood. The low water level due to dam work currently restricts boating and potentially fishing. The cleanliness of the bathrooms is a concern raised by one reviewer. The pricing at $20.00 per night, even with limited use and the lack of a camp host or water activities, is also mentioned as a point of dissatisfaction.

There is no explicit promotional information in these reviews. Instead, they offer candid feedback on the current state of the campground. The beauty of the location and its role as a PCT stop are potential draws, but these are somewhat overshadowed by concerns about maintenance, amenities, and pricing.

For local users searching for "camping near me" in the Ashland area, Klum Landing Campground presents a mixed picture. The natural beauty and the opportunity to meet Pacific Crest Trail hikers are appealing aspects. However, potential campers should be aware of the active wildlife, the reported lack of bathroom cleaning, the absence of a camp host, the low water levels impacting boating and fishing, and the $20.00 nightly fee. If you are primarily interested in a scenic location near the PCT and are prepared for potentially rustic conditions and the need to source supplies externally, Klum Landing might still be an option. However, those seeking well-maintained facilities and water-based recreation may want to consider alternatives, at least until the reported issues are addressed.

To get the most up-to-date information on the water levels, the status of amenities, and any changes in management or maintenance, it would be advisable to contact Jackson County Parks directly using the provided phone number. This will help you determine if Klum Landing Campground currently meets your expectations for "camping near me."
