Kreis Pond Campground Introduce
For local residents traveling along or near Interstate 90 west and seeking a worthwhile "camping near me" experience, Kreis Pond Campground, located in Huson, MT 59846, USA, presents a secluded and budget-friendly option. While it may require a bit of extra travel off the main highway, visitor reviews suggest that the destination is a "gem" well worth the effort. This campground offers a natural setting centered around a stocked pond, providing opportunities for fishing and a peaceful escape. It's important to note some access considerations and the limited services available.
The environment of Kreis Pond Campground is characterized by its natural beauty and tranquility. The presence of Kreis Pond is the central feature, offering a picturesque setting for camping and various water-related activities. The pond is reportedly stocked with cutthroat trout, making it a significant draw for anglers. Interestingly, some locals have also reported catching bass in the pond, adding to the variety of fishing opportunities. The surrounding area is described as a forest, implying that campsites are likely nestled among trees, providing shade and a sense of seclusion. The overall atmosphere is reported to be quiet, making it an ideal spot for those looking to escape the noise of everyday life. The presence of local fishermen and hunters scouting nearby areas suggests that the campground is situated within a natural environment frequented by those seeking outdoor recreation.
In terms of services, Kreis Pond Campground offers basic amenities suitable for a rustic camping experience. There are two bathrooms available, which are likely vault toilets, common in more remote campgrounds. A significant point to note is the absence of cell service in the area, which can be a benefit for those wanting to disconnect but a consideration for those who rely on communication. The campground operates on a self-service model to some extent, as indicated by the low nightly fee of $10. There is no mention of water or electricity hookups, suggesting that campers should come prepared with their own supplies. The presence of a ranger who reportedly stayed in the area overnight in their truck tucked away in the trees suggests a level of security and oversight, potentially aimed at preventing any "nefarious behavior" and ensuring a safe environment for campers.
The primary feature of Kreis Pond Campground is undoubtedly the fishing opportunities in the stocked pond. The presence of both cutthroat trout and bass offers a unique angling experience, catering to different preferences. The fact that locals frequent the pond for fishing speaks to its appeal as a fishing destination. Another feature is the secluded and natural environment, surrounded by forest, providing a peaceful escape. The low cost of $10 per night makes it an exceptionally affordable option for "camping near me." While not explicitly stated, the potential for wildlife viewing in the surrounding forest is also a likely feature. It's worth noting the access to the campground: while the extra drive off Interstate 90 west is deemed worthwhile, one reviewer cautioned that the forest road leading to the campground is rough, particularly for towed campers, and took them an hour to navigate. This is a crucial consideration for those with trailers or larger RVs. Despite the challenging access, the reviewer still considered it a "gem" worth the time, though they also imagined it could get busy on weekends and holidays, indicating its popularity among those who know about it.
Regarding promotional information, the most significant aspect is the very affordable nightly fee of $10. This low cost, combined with the fishing opportunities and natural setting, acts as a strong incentive for local campers looking for a budget-friendly getaway. The positive reviews, despite mentioning the rough road and lack of cell service, serve as word-of-mouth promotion, highlighting the value and enjoyment experienced by previous visitors. The fact that it attracts local fishermen and hunters also suggests its reputation within the local outdoor community. There are no mentions of specific discounts or special offers, so the primary promotional element is the combination of a pleasant natural environment and the very low camping fee.
Finally, one important piece of advice from a reviewer concerns navigation. They noted that when getting off the interstate, Google Maps directed them in a way that contradicted the signage, and they recommended following the signage instead. This practical tip is valuable for local users planning their first visit to Kreis Pond Campground to avoid any unnecessary difficulties in reaching the destination.
In conclusion, Kreis Pond Campground offers a unique and affordable "camping near me" experience near Huson, Montana, centered around a stocked pond with both cutthroat trout and bass. The natural forest environment provides a tranquil setting, and the low nightly fee of $10 makes it a budget-friendly option. However, potential visitors should be aware that the forest road leading to the campground can be rough, especially for towed campers, and there is no cell service available. The presence of two bathrooms (likely vault toilets) provides basic sanitation. Despite these considerations, the positive reviews from those who have made the journey highlight the campground as a "gem" worth the effort, especially for those interested in fishing and a quiet natural escape. Remember to follow the signage rather than relying solely on GPS directions when navigating from the interstate.

Aug 15, 2024 · THELEVERACTION gunTook us an hour to reach it mostly because the forest road is rough on towed campers. This is a gem! Worth your time though I imagine busy on weekends and holidays. Met a retiree who fly fishes it from a kayak. The pond is stocked with cutthroat trout. Oddly folks I talked to said there were bass in there and were thrilled to catch one. We have bass where I live and no trout so I’m in for the cutthroats. Several locals showed up to fish or scout a nearby hunting spot. I found it interesting that a Ranger sat up in his truck all night tucked away in the trees. I imagine to prevent nefarious behavior. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay even though I caught no fish. I saw fish hit the top water. PS when you get off the interstate Google maps directs you in a way we weren’t willing to follow as it opposed the signage. Follow the signage!
Sep 23, 2021 · Freedom SeekerVery busy campground. Navigate with Google to the Ranger Station, then follow the signs. Make sure to bring a kayak or something to play in the water. Also some hiking/ biking trails leading out from campground.
Jun 06, 2021 · Jonathan NelsonThis is a beautiful gem hidden in the outback. You cannot hear any trace of civilization. I was a little nervous about the long gravel road on my cruiser but it all worked out even the trip out in rain. I was treated to almost full moon reflecting off the pond.
Aug 31, 2020 · Mark EvansVery nice campground, great pond size, in a great recreational area, ive spent about 4 weekends back to back here. Its quite the party area, some hiking spots nearby if your looking for a hike, do some fishing, or go for a quick dip in the lake. 10$ a night aint bad.
