La Jolla Indian Campground Introduce
For local residents in Southern California seeking an exciting "Camping Near Me" experience that goes beyond traditional camping, La Jolla Indian Campground, located at 801 Campground Rd, Pauma Valley, CA 92061, USA, offers a compelling blend of natural beauty and adventure activities. You can contact them at (760) 742-1297 or +1 760-742-1297. Based on recent customer reviews, this campground has evolved significantly over the years, transforming into an "adventure camp" that caters to families and outdoor enthusiasts seeking more than just a place to pitch a tent or park an RV.
One long-time visitor, who had experienced the campground as a teenager many years ago, enthusiastically notes the significant growth and improvement of La Jolla Indian Campground. This reviewer highlights its transformation into an adventure camp featuring exciting activities such as zip-lining and mountain bike expeditions, alongside the long-standing favorite of river inner tubing. This evolution suggests a deliberate shift towards providing a more engaging and activity-filled outdoor experience for its guests. For those looking for "Camping Near Me" with built-in adventure options, La Jolla Indian Campground appears to be a strong contender.
The reviewer also praises the campground's move towards family camping and adventure outdoor experiences, noting a welcome departure from what was once a "loud party atmosphere." This shift indicates that La Jolla Indian Campground is now catering to a broader demographic seeking a more wholesome and family-friendly environment. This is a significant point for those with children or those who prefer a more relaxed and less raucous camping setting.
The environment of La Jolla Indian Campground is described as "nice" by another recent visitor. Pauma Valley is known for its scenic beauty in the foothills of the Palomar Mountains, suggesting that campers can expect a natural setting with potentially wooded areas, river access (for the inner tubing), and pleasant surroundings for outdoor activities. The specific details of the environment, such as the types of trees, terrain, or proximity to specific natural landmarks, are not elaborated upon, but the positive mention suggests an appealing outdoor setting.
However, alongside the positive aspects of the environment and the adventure activities, one recent review raises a significant concern regarding the condition of the restroom facilities. This visitor described the restrooms as "extremely outdated," noting that "one sink and one toilet were out of order," and the toilet seat in the last stall was "half broken." This level of disrepair is particularly concerning given the reported nightly camping fee of $53. The reviewer expressed disappointment with the condition of the bathrooms relative to the cost of camping, suggesting that the facilities do not meet the expected standards for the price.
This feedback presents a crucial point for potential visitors to consider. While the adventure activities and the natural environment may be appealing, the state of the restroom facilities could significantly impact the overall camping experience, especially for families and those who value clean and well-maintained amenities. It would be prudent for prospective campers to inquire directly with the campground management about the current condition of the restrooms and any plans for renovation or improvement.
Despite the concern about the restrooms, the positive feedback regarding the adventure activities and the shift towards a family-friendly atmosphere suggests that La Jolla Indian Campground offers a unique and evolving camping experience. The availability of zip-lining and mountain bike expeditions provides opportunities for thrill-seekers and those looking to engage in more active outdoor pursuits. The river inner tubing, a long-standing attraction, likely offers a fun and refreshing way to enjoy the natural water features of the area. The combination of these activities with traditional camping aims to create a well-rounded outdoor adventure for families and individuals alike.
For local users searching for "Camping Near Me" who are interested in a more dynamic camping experience with built-in activities, La Jolla Indian Campground warrants further investigation. The positive reviews regarding the transformation of the campground and the quality of the adventure offerings are compelling. However, the significant concern raised about the outdated and partially broken restroom facilities should not be overlooked. Potential campers should weigh the appeal of the activities and the environment against the reported condition of the amenities and the cost of camping per night.
It is also worth noting that the reviews do not provide details about other potential services and features of the campground, such as the availability of RV hookups, tent camping areas, picnic tables, fire pits, or other common campground amenities. Those considering staying at La Jolla Indian Campground should inquire about these details when making a reservation or seeking further information. Understanding the full range of services and facilities available will help in making an informed decision.
In conclusion, La Jolla Indian Campground near Pauma Valley, CA, offers a potentially phenomenal "Camping Near Me" experience for those seeking adventure and family-friendly activities. The evolution of the campground to include zip-lining, mountain bike expeditions, and river inner tubing, alongside a focus on a more wholesome atmosphere, is a significant draw. The natural environment of Pauma Valley is also a positive aspect. However, the reported condition of the outdated and partially broken restroom facilities is a serious concern that potential visitors should be aware of and investigate further with the campground management. Weighing the exciting adventure offerings and the nice environment against the reported issues with the restrooms, in the context of the $53 nightly fee, will be crucial for local users deciding if La Jolla Indian Campground is the right choice for their next camping trip.

La Jolla Indian Campground Reviews
This is a phenomenal place. I used to come out here many years ago as a teen and it has grown and improved so much over the years. It's now an adventure camp with zip lining, mountain bike expeditions, and of course the river inner tubing which has been a staple. I love how they have moved the experience of this amazing place toward family camping and adventure outdoor experiences and moved away from the loud party atmosphere that once dominated here. This place is amazing and I highly recommend it.
Apr 27, 2025 · Amanda MaybeeThe environment was nice, but the restroom facilities were extremely outdated—one sink and one toilet were out of order, and the toilet seat in the last stall was half broken. For $53 a night to camp here, the condition of the bathrooms was honestly quite disappointing.
May 04, 2025 · Julie LiIf they’re going to have a no pets policy, it’s needs to be clearly posted online everywhere before people go out of their way to pack up and camp and mtn bike here. Even when it’s a service animal? And fine, have your ridiculous rules as CA does, but then to even be rude about it and totally unwelcoming at the front? You wont catch me here ever
Apr 20, 2025 · Tee EllWent on a Saturday in late September with 3 other people. Didn’t seem overly crowded. We arrived mid-morning and had no problem getting a good campsite. Portapotties were all mostly clean and we saw them being cleaned Sunday morning too. Took off a star because the prices are high for what you get and also there was no warning about how rough the tubing is. Water flow seemed decent but it was still shallow at a number of spots and so many hidden large rocks and waterfalls. We all ended up with many scratches and bruises. Also had a clear rope clothesline my neck at one point. It was a lot of fun with our group, but I wouldn’t recommend it if you aren’t prepared for getting a bit hurt (watch your heads and spines!). Also, warning that the speed limit is 5mph and police were enforcing it.
Sep 23, 2024 · Eric KlugIf you like rude staff members and rude camp goers, this is for you! How about people with no camping courtesy walk right through your campground? Yup, true story! What about a Karen telling you it’s a public area and their kids are allowed to access the stream through your campground? I ensured this lady there were multiple pathways to the right and left of our campground that they can access the steam. She was not appeased, but are they ever? Don’t worry, rude people come in all shapes including little wannabe thugs trying to intimidate my husband, but as an older man, he wasn’t going to be bullied and told them off. The security guards do not have a backbone. They might as well work at the library or CVS. Another story, another time. This place is disorganized and there were no rhyme or reason when entering the site, you can be one of the first to arrive but they don’t care. They reinforce more aggressive rude drivers cutting in line. We were nearly the last to enter the park, even when we were 30 minutes early. In a nutshell, this place was packed with people with no etiquette and the place was disgustingly overcrowded. If you want a nice relaxing camping community that honors each other and are kind, respectful, and helpful, this is NOT for you. Save yourself the stress.
