Lake-A-Way Camp Grounds Introduce
Looking for a "camping near me" experience in a rural setting near Wiggins, Mississippi? Lake-A-Way Camp Grounds, located at 9 Tumbleweed Dr, Wiggins, MS 39577, USA, offers a location described as "beautiful." You can contact them at (601) 928-8172 or +1 601-928-8172 for inquiries. Based on the available customer reviews, this campground presents a mixed picture, with positive aspects regarding its location and the helpfulness of the manager, but also significant concerns raised about the condition of rental trailers and interactions with the owner.
The environment of Lake-A-Way Camp Grounds is clearly a significant positive aspect, with one reviewer stating, "The location is beautiful." This suggests that the campground is situated in a scenic area, likely offering natural beauty that appeals to those seeking a retreat in the countryside. Located outside of town in Mississippi, the environment is described as rural, which often implies a quieter and more secluded setting compared to campgrounds closer to urban areas. One reviewer mentioned that "pretty much everybody mind their own business," which could contribute to a sense of peace and privacy that some campers appreciate. While the specific natural features (e.g., a lake, woods, trails) are not detailed, the repeated mention of the "beautiful location" suggests that the surrounding environment is a key draw for visitors. The rural setting also implies that it might be a place where one can experience the natural sounds of the countryside and potentially observe local wildlife.
The services at Lake-A-Way Camp Grounds appear to be somewhat variable based on the reviews. The campground offers trailer rentals, but one reviewer had a negative experience, stating that the trailers were "in poor shape" and that the owner reacted poorly to complaints about needed repairs. This is a significant concern for potential renters and suggests that the condition of the rental trailers may be inconsistent. On a more positive note, one reviewer praised the manager as "honest" and helpful, willing to go "beyond his job description" to assist a disabled guest. This indicates that the on-site management may be responsive and supportive. However, the same reviewer noted a disappointment: "we no longer have Wi-Fi," which could be a drawback for campers who rely on internet access. The expectation that "you have to pay your rent, nothings free" is a basic service aspect mentioned, highlighting the straightforward financial transaction. The experience with the owner, as described by one reviewer, raises concerns about customer service, particularly regarding deposit returns and addressing maintenance issues. The contrasting experiences with the manager and the owner suggest a potential inconsistency in the overall service quality.
The features of Lake-A-Way Camp Grounds are not extensively detailed in the provided reviews. The availability of trailer rentals is one feature, although their condition appears to be questionable according to one account. The rural location itself can be considered a feature for those seeking a quieter and more secluded camping experience. The presence of a manager who is described as helpful and honest is another positive feature. The social environment, where "pretty much everybody mind their own business," might be seen as a feature by those who value privacy and independence during their stay. The lack of Wi-Fi, as mentioned by one reviewer, is a notable absence of a feature that many modern campers expect. The beautiful location, while an environmental aspect, also functions as a key feature attracting visitors. The potential for a less regulated or more independent camping experience, typical of some rural campgrounds, could also be considered a feature, depending on individual preferences.
Considering the platform category of "camping near me," Lake-A-Way Camp Grounds offers a rural option for those in the Wiggins, MS area. The beautiful location is a significant selling point, and the presence of a helpful manager provides some reassurance regarding on-site assistance. However, the negative feedback concerning the condition of rental trailers and the owner's التعامل with complaints and deposits should give potential renters pause. For those considering bringing their own camping equipment (tents or RVs), the reviews provide less direct information about the quality and suitability of the campsites themselves. The lack of Wi-Fi might be a deciding factor for some travelers who need to stay connected. The rural setting could be ideal for those seeking peace and quiet away from more developed campgrounds.
Currently, there is no promotional information available for Lake-A-Way Camp Grounds based on the provided reviews. To inquire about current rates for campsite rentals (for tents or RVs, if available), the condition and availability of trailer rentals, policies regarding deposits, and the status of Wi-Fi service, it is essential to contact them directly at the provided phone numbers: (601) 928-8172 or +1 601-928-8172. Given the conflicting experiences reported in the reviews, it would be wise to ask detailed questions and potentially seek clarification on the campground's policies and the condition of any rentals before making a reservation. Inquiring about recent improvements or any changes in management or services might also be beneficial. Local users considering a stay here should weigh the appeal of the beautiful location and the helpful manager against the potential downsides related to rental trailers and owner interactions.
In conclusion, Lake-A-Way Camp Grounds near Wiggins, MS, offers a "camping near me" option in a reportedly beautiful rural location. While the helpfulness of the manager is a noted positive, potential visitors should be aware of concerns raised about the condition of rental trailers and customer service related to the owner. The lack of Wi-Fi is another factor to consider. For those with their own camping setups, more information would be needed regarding the quality and amenities of the campsites. Local users interested in a rural retreat should contact the campground directly to get the most current and detailed information about their offerings and policies before making a decision.

Lake-A-Way Camp Grounds Reviews
The location is beautiful. My wife and I actually met here. I rented some of the trailers here and they were in poor shape. The owner screamed at me when I told her that the place needed repairs. Don't even worry about getting your deposit back because she won't give it to you even if you scrub the place clean and your rent was paid on time. And you even might have to fix things yourself just to live there.
Jan 24, 2025 · David HughesI’ve enjoyed my stay. Everyone has been nice, especially the manager. He is honest and will help and do what needs to be done. I’m disabled his help to me beyond his job description. The owner is nice but does not put up with any shenanigans. Of course you have to pay your rent, nothings free This is Mississippi. It is in the country outside of town. You have your educated, and then you’re poorly educated folks around and pretty much everybody mind their own business which I really like. The only real disappointment I have is we no longer have Wi-Fi

Jan 16, 2025 · MR Todd SumrallI've had items stolen from my property (which is private) from lake away renters, I've been cussed at in front of my place by lake away residents. I've had chemicals sprayed in my driveway area and along my property line. I've been told I can't fish off my property because the lake away owner believes she owns everything out here. Not even the wildlife is safe! I've had lake away guest come on to my lot and throw trash in the water. I've also seen and stopped 2 guys abusing wild ducks with babies with nets. When I asked why they was doing that they stated "the owner of lake away told us to because she don't want them here" when I asked them if they was going to catch all the wild squirrel too? They said no. After I told them the property they was abusing the ducks at was privately owned and that they should stop right now before I call the police for trespassing, after throwing a duck into the trees one of them called me all kinds of nasty words. I don't recommend this place to anyone!
May 27, 2019 · Joey HuffThe management were very freindly, and accommodating and helpful. However, the owners are obviously only there for money, but they don't want to spend any money. Also I have never had a dress code to go camping! My sons and husband were told they must have a t-shirt on when they leave the tent. The owners also have issues with large dogs.
