Lake Rebecca Park Reserve (South Group Camp) Reviews
For the South Group Camp site, something has changed in the last 2 years. We have been going to this site for about 5 years. But at this point I would not recommend it. Between needing to knock down 5 wasps nests on the main shelter, and one tennis ball sized Yellow Jacket nest on the solar array. (This should be part of the prep for the shelter when firewood is delivered by the grounds crew.) The Mosquitoes have been really bad the last 2 years. I don't know if the park has stopped treating the area but going into the toilets you end up dragging dozens of mosquitoes in with you. (I'm not exaggerating.) Last year I attributed it to the late thaw and rains just before our trip. But this is 2 years in a row when 5 tiki torches (Antibite fuel) + citronella candles on the benches + a fire + local fogging + bug repellent wasn't enough to keep these things at bay. I ended up with about 50 bites the first night. Thurs-Mon. Camping is camping. Bugs are a way of life. But this was legit bad. The shelter was the high point that keeps this from being a total bust. I brought power and lights so we could stay inside until it was cold enough out to let the skitters calm down so we could have a fire.
Jun 03, 2024 · Kellic AnonymousTigerI think I saw a black bear cub in the wooded North side of the park while hiking last night. Big surprise! This just shows how awesome the ecosystem is out here. You'll hear howls, owls (Great Horned), and maybe even see some of the large white-tailed deer. Lake Rebecca Park Reserve is a hidden gem for hikers, mountain bikers, cyclists, and so much more. The natural beauty reflects the area. The group camps are gorgeous and private. The lake is peaceful. The trails are well maintained. There are woods, grasslands, ponds, lakes, and wetlands. Be aware the hiking trails tend to get puddl'y and muddy in the Spring, but once foliage takes hold, the hiking is much better. The paved trail is fine this time of year. Thank goodness for waterproof hiking shoes, though. If it rains, the awesome mountain bike path isn't usable, but when it's dry, check it out!
Jun 18, 2024 · David ColemanA relaxing place to spend some quality time with family or friends. This is one of the easier Three Rivers Park reserve campsites to get to. The only thing that could be updated is the bathrooms. Even in the day time they're dark. I wish they had a skylight or bigger windows to let more light in until the solar ones kick on.
Aug 20, 2020 · Brian JuveHad a bunch of fun. South campsite was great. Loved that there was a roofed shelter to put stuff in. Bathrooms had solar powered lights. Some cucumber in the well water took away the sulfer smell.
Jul 19, 2018 · Jenn MataWe were in the south group site. Plenty of space, nice shelter building. Needs to have upright grill closer to the shelter and the timing on the water pump can be cut in half. Too much water wasted.
