Laurel Lake Campgrounds Introduce
For local users searching for "camping near me" in the Fitzwilliam, New Hampshire area, Laurel Lake Campgrounds, located at 340 E Lake Rd, Fitzwilliam, NH 03447, USA, presents itself as a potential option. They can be reached at (603) 585-3304 or their mobile number +1 603-585-3304. Based on recent customer reviews, experiences at this campground appear to vary significantly, which is important for local users to consider.
One detailed review described a highly negative experience. The campers arrived in the early evening, encountering non-existent cell service which prevented them from contacting the campground office. Upon arrival at 1730 hours, the office was closed, and no staff were immediately available to assist with finding an overnight camping spot. The reviewer noted that many of the campers present appeared "abandoned" and in poor condition, with uncut grass, giving the impression that the campground was past its prime. Despite these red flags, being tired and needing electricity for a single night, they proceeded.
Eventually, they encountered a gentleman and his wife who identified themselves as the previous campground owners. This individual reportedly knew the current owner and advised the new arrivals to find a spot and pay in the morning. This seemed like a reasonable solution at the time. However, the following morning at 0700 hours, the campers were awakened by a loud knock on their door. The person was described as a woman who aggressively demanded to know their presence. Attempts to explain the situation reportedly escalated the encounter, with the woman allegedly cursing at the reviewer and demanding their immediate departure under threat of police involvement. The reviewer stated they welcomed police intervention hoping it would de-escalate the situation. They were eventually able to pay for their night's stay and promptly left, vowing never to return.
This detailed account paints a picture of a campground with potentially neglected upkeep and a confrontational interaction with someone who appeared to be in a position of authority. The lack of staff availability upon arrival and the subsequent morning encounter are significant points of concern raised by this reviewer.
In stark contrast, another reviewer shared a long-standing positive connection with Laurel Lake Campgrounds, stating, "My fiance's family has been camping here for at least 15 years." This indicates a history of positive experiences for some visitors. The reviewer also mentioned recently purchasing a camper and expressed excitement for camping at Laurel Lake Campgrounds in the current year, implying that they anticipate a pleasant experience based on past familiarity.
These two reviews present a dichotomy of experiences. One highlights significant issues with the campground's condition and management interaction, while the other reflects a long-term positive association. For local users considering Laurel Lake Campgrounds as a "camping near me" option, it is crucial to weigh these contrasting perspectives.
Based on this limited information, we can attempt to outline potential aspects of Laurel Lake Campgrounds:
- Environment: Located in Fitzwilliam, NH, it is presumably near Laurel Lake, suggesting a potentially scenic, lakeside setting. However, one review mentioned uncut grass and a generally shabby condition, indicating that the upkeep might be inconsistent.
- Services: Electricity hookups are available, as sought by one reviewer. The presence of a campground office suggests a formal operation, though its hours of operation and staff availability may be limited or inconsistent.
- Features: Proximity to Laurel Lake could offer opportunities for water-related activities, though this is not explicitly confirmed in the reviews. The long-term patronage of one reviewer's family suggests that the campground might have some appealing qualities that retain visitors over the years.
- Management/Staff: Experiences with individuals who appear to be associated with the campground seem to vary greatly, from a helpful previous owner to a confrontational encounter with another woman.
Given the conflicting feedback, local users searching for "camping near me" should perhaps exercise caution and seek more current information before deciding on Laurel Lake Campgrounds. Contacting them directly at the provided phone number might offer insights into the current state of the campground, its amenities, and management practices.
Potential questions for the campground could include:
- What are the current conditions of the campsites and grounds?
- What are the office hours and what is the procedure for after-hours arrivals?
- What amenities are currently available (e.g., restrooms, showers, water access)?
- What is the policy regarding reservations and payment?
Without further information, it is difficult to provide a definitive introduction. The available reviews offer a snapshot of potentially significant issues alongside a history of positive experiences for at least one family. Local users are advised to do their due diligence to ascertain the current reality of Laurel Lake Campgrounds.
In conclusion, Laurel Lake Campgrounds in Fitzwilliam, NH, has received mixed reviews. While one account details a negative experience with the campground's condition and a hostile interaction, another highlights a long-term positive connection. For local users looking for "camping near me," Laurel Lake Campgrounds presents a complex picture, necessitating further inquiry to determine if it meets individual expectations for a camping getaway.

Laurel Lake Campgrounds Reviews
If we could do zero stars it would be appropriate for our experience and shabby material condition of the campground. We were in the area looking for camping as we were getting into the early evening. Unfortunately cell service was nonexistent so try as we might we couldn’t contact the campground office. We arrived at 1730 hours and attempted to find someone who would help us sort out an overnight camping spot. The office was closed and no one was about. Most of the campers there appeared to have been abandoned and were in fair to poor condition. The grass was uncut and place appeared as if it’s best days were behind it. This should have been a red flag but we were tired and just need electricity and a one night stay. I eventually found a gentleman and his wife who were previously the campground owner. He said he knew the owner and said to find a spot pay for it in the morning. All this sounded great until a loud knock came on the camper door at 0700 hours the next morning. The person knocking was a woman who demanded to know what we were doing there. We tried to explain and this only seemed to stoke the fire. See cursed at me and told us to leave the campground immediately or she would call the police. I welcomed this as it may have restored equilibrium to the encounter. I finally was able to at least pay for our night and we wasted no time in leaving and will never be back.
