The Environment: Lakeside Relaxation and Mature Trees
Le Mars Willow Creek Campground boasts a pleasant environment centered around a small swimming and fishing lake. This provides a picturesque backdrop for camping and offers opportunities for leisurely activities right at your doorstep. The campground is nestled among mature trees, which offer good protection from the wind and contribute to a shaded and comfortable atmosphere, particularly around the perimeter where most back-in sites are located. While one reviewer noted the desire for more large trees throughout the grounds, they also mentioned that new plantings are in place, suggesting the shade will improve over time. The combination of the lake and the surrounding greenery creates a tranquil setting for a local escape.
Services and Amenities: Catering to Different Camping Needs
The campground offers a variety of campsites with different hook-up options, ranging from full hook-ups to lesser choices, accommodating various types of camping setups. This flexibility allows campers with different needs and preferences to find a suitable site. For those who enjoy water activities, kayak rentals are available, providing a fun way to explore the small lake. The presence of a store on-site is a significant convenience, offering snacks and essential items that campers may have forgotten. This eliminates the need for immediate trips into town for minor necessities. While a dump station is mentioned as being "down the street," its exact proximity and ease of access might vary, so it's advisable to inquire about its location upon arrival. The availability of paved pads in some areas and crushed rock in others suggests an effort to provide level and stable campsites.

This personal touch can significantly enhance the camping experience, making guests feel welcome and supported. The campground also offers comfortable site spacing, ensuring that campers do not feel cramped or too close to their neighbors. This contributes to a more relaxed and private atmosphere. The layout includes back-in sites situated closer to the trees, offering more shade, while pull-thru sites are located in a more open central area, which might be preferable for larger RVs or those seeking easier access.
Insights from Customer Reviews: Balancing Positives with Areas for Improvement
The available customer reviews provide valuable insights into the experience at Le Mars Willow Creek Campground:
- Positive Aspects: Many reviewers highlight the convenient in-town location, the presence of the lake for swimming and fishing, the availability of kayak rentals, and the on-site store. The friendly and helpful owners are consistently mentioned as a significant positive. The mature trees around the perimeter are appreciated for providing shade and wind protection. The comfortable site spacing is also a plus for many visitors.
- Areas for Potential Improvement: One reviewer in the "old section" noted that while the cement pads were level and there was a fair amount of shade, the bathrooms were not cleaned during their Friday to Monday stay. They also mentioned that quiet hours were not observed and that the trash was full on Sunday and Monday. Another reviewer, while generally positive, wished for more large trees throughout the grounds. These comments suggest that while the campground has many positive attributes, attention to consistent maintenance, especially regarding bathroom cleanliness and trash disposal, and enforcement of quiet hours could further enhance the guest experience. The ongoing planting of trees should address the desire for more shade in the future.

Le Mars Willow Creek Campground Reviews
This is a very nice campground located right in town. It has a small swimming and fishing lake with camp sites all around, kayak rentals and store for snacks and a few things you may have left at home. Sites vary in available hook ups, from full hooks to lesser choices. The owner operators are a young friendly couple who are more than happy to help if you need it. The grounds are nestled in surrounding mature trees and well protected from winds. There are paved pads in some areas and crushed rock in others. Nearly all back-in sites are in close to the trees, while pull thru sites are in the open center area. Site spacing is quite comfortable, so you won't be jammed in close together. It seems like most of the guests here are somewhat local, from nearby towns, out looking for a short getaway. Yes, we recommend it. Only got a 4 star because it would be nice if there were more big trees throughout the grounds, rather than only around the perimeter. But they have a number of plantings in place, so that will be coming.
Jun 02, 2020 · tgrigg11 TonyGCamped in the old section (new section is full hook up), cement pads that are level, fair amount of shade, great biking trail, dump station down the street, bathrooms were not cleaned (we were there Fri. through Mon.), quiet hours not observed, trash was full on Sunday & Monday. Did enjoy the restaurant down the street & ice cream store in town.
Aug 11, 2021 · nancy tingwaldNice place! Good for fishing and kayaking! Wifi sucks. Hard to get into spots because there are a lot of long term stayers. But when I do get a spot it is nice and peaceful.
Jun 29, 2022 · Behr CareyWe booked this campground a while ago to attend The Browns Theater and found out one day before we arrived they had closed. We were not contacted nor did we receive a refund. Left message and still no call back. Very poor service! Very disappointed. Stayed in Akron and it was amazing!
