Limekiln Campground

Limekiln Creek Big Sur, Big Sur, CA 93920, USA

4.0
We stayed in ocean site 11. I am giving four stars accounting for the sound of the traffic on the bridge (luckily at night there isn't much traffic, if any), the generator in a buliding that buzzes most the night you can hear in the beach sites but when it shuts off you can the waves and creek, that was so lovely sounding. Also I am a little more inclined to more private or dispersed camping, so all this might not bother you. The bathrooms in the ocean sites had two bathrooms and one shower. Host has quarters for showers and minimal essential goods for purchase. Host was super nice, too. The ocean sites are neat but I think next time we will stay in the redwood sites, just my preference. Great for families. The beach is beautiful and a very short walk for the ocean sites and not much more of walk for the redwood campsites. Overall it is a gem for such a tourist area because of the limited campsites and you can't beat the ocean on one side and the trails on the other. Trails are closed though due to Dolan Fire. - Markie Hull

For local adventurers in Singapore seeking remarkable "Camping Near Me" experiences and planning a journey to the spectacular Big Sur region of California, USA, Limekiln Campground, situated along Limekiln Creek in Big Sur, CA 93920, presents a unique opportunity to immerse yourselves in diverse natural beauty. This campground offers a distinctive choice between oceanfront campsites with breathtaking views and redwood campsites nestled amongst towering trees along a creek. While some ambient noise from the nearby highway bridge and a generator has been noted, the overall experience, coupled with beach access and hiking trails (currently affected by the Dolan Fire), makes Limekiln Campground a compelling destination. You can contact them at (805) 434-1996 or +1 805-434-1996 for inquiries.

The environment of Limekiln Campground is truly exceptional, offering two distinct natural settings within close proximity. The ocean sites boast stunning views of the Pacific Ocean and provide very short walk access to the beautiful beach. Campers in these locations can enjoy the sights and sounds of the ocean, though they may experience some noise from the traffic on the nearby highway bridge, particularly during the day. Additionally, a generator in a nearby building produces a buzzing sound that can be noticeable in the beach sites, although this reportedly lessens or ceases at night, allowing the sounds of the waves and Limekiln Creek to become more prominent. The redwood campsites, on the other hand, are located a short distance inland, nestled amongst magnificent redwood trees along the creek. This upper camp offers ample shade and a sense of being enveloped by the majestic forest. The sound of the creek adds to the peaceful ambiance of the redwood sites, and reviewers have noted a decent separation between neighboring campsites in this area. The campground's location between the ocean and the trails (though currently closed) provides a remarkable gateway to exploring the diverse landscapes of Big Sur.

Limekiln Campground offers essential services to ensure a comfortable stay. The ocean sites are equipped with a restroom facility containing two toilets and one shower. The camp host is reported to be super nice and helpful, offering quarters for the showers and providing minimal essential goods for purchase, which can be convenient for forgotten items or necessities. While specific details about amenities in the redwood campsites are not provided in the reviews, it's reasonable to expect basic facilities such as restrooms as well. The availability of a host on-site adds a layer of security and assistance for campers. The mention of the host having quarters for showers at the ocean sites suggests that showers might be available for a fee. The sale of minimal essential goods indicates a basic level of convenience for campers who might need to replenish supplies.

The features of Limekiln Campground are diverse, catering to different preferences. The ocean sites are a major draw for those seeking immediate beach access and breathtaking ocean views. Despite some noted noise, the proximity to the beach is a significant advantage, allowing for easy enjoyment of the sandy shores and the Pacific Ocean. The redwood campsites offer a different but equally appealing experience, providing a tranquil retreat amongst towering trees and the soothing sounds of the creek. The shade in the redwood camp is a welcome feature, especially during warmer months. A key feature of Limekiln Campground is its access to hiking trails. Reviews mention short but gorgeous hikes to the historic limestone kilns and waterfalls, indicating opportunities for exploration and enjoying the natural beauty beyond the campsites. However, it is crucial to note that these trails are currently closed due to the Dolan Fire, so potential visitors should check the status of the trails before planning their activities. The campground's overall setting, bordered by the ocean on one side and the trails on the other, makes it a gem in a popular tourist area due to the limited number of campsites available, offering a more intimate experience compared to larger campgrounds.

While specific promotional offers are not mentioned in the provided reviews, the unique combination of oceanfront and redwood forest camping within one campground is a significant draw in itself. The positive feedback regarding the helpfulness and friendliness of the camp host serves as a strong implicit promotion, highlighting the welcoming and supportive atmosphere. The repeated mentions of the beautiful beach and the scenic hikes (when open) further enhance the campground's appeal. The fact that one reviewer, despite noting some drawbacks, still considers it a "gem" due to its location and limited availability in a tourist area speaks volumes about its desirability. For families, the easy beach access and the different camping environments (ocean vs. redwood) could be particularly appealing, offering options to suit various preferences and age groups.

For travelers from Singapore planning a "Camping Near Me" adventure in Big Sur, Limekiln Campground presents a compelling choice. The opportunity to select between an ocean view campsite with direct beach access or a serene redwood campsite along a creek offers a unique and varied experience. While the potential for some noise from the highway bridge and a generator near the ocean sites should be considered, the beauty of the location and the friendly service appear to outweigh these drawbacks for many visitors. The currently closed hiking trails to the limestone kilns and waterfalls are an added attraction to look forward to when they reopen. The limited number of campsites in this tourist area suggests that Limekiln Campground offers a more exclusive and potentially less crowded experience compared to larger campgrounds. It is advisable to book in advance, especially for the preferred ocean or redwood sites, to secure your spot in this beautiful part of Big Sur.

In conclusion, Limekiln Campground offers a remarkable camping experience in Big Sur, California, with its dual appeal of oceanfront and redwood forest campsites. The beautiful beach access, the potential for scenic hikes (when trails reopen), and the helpful camp host contribute to its positive reputation. While some ambient noise has been noted in the ocean sites, the overall environment and the unique choice of camping settings make Limekiln Campground a gem for those seeking "Camping Near Me" along the stunning Big Sur coast. Contact them at (805) 434-1996 or +1 805-434-1996 to plan your unforgettable camping adventure amidst the beauty of Limekiln Creek and the Pacific Ocean.
