Lone Fir Campground

Winthrop, WA 98862, USA

4.0
Stayed the night on the way to the gorge, beautiful drive East along HWY 20. Running water, but no threaded head for hoses could lead to difficulties filling up with water. One or two large pull through for the big rigs out there (site 2 and 23). No recycling, which leads to lots of cans and bottles on the dumpster. Signage, starting to show signs of wear…a little difficult to read when dark. Most sites have flat areas for vehicles or tents. Non-flushing toilets, but overall clean and well kept. Despite being close to the hwy, was a quiet night. - Howie Outerbridge

Lone Fir Campground Introduce

For local users in Washington State searching for "camping near me," Lone Fir Campground, located in Winthrop, WA 98862, USA, offers a potentially appealing option. Situated off Highway 20, it appears to be a convenient stop for travelers heading east, such as towards the gorge, and also a destination in its own right. Based on the available customer reviews, Lone Fir Campground presents a mix of practical amenities and a generally positive camping experience.

Environmentally, the location along Highway 20 suggests accessibility and likely scenic surroundings, as one reviewer noted a "beautiful drive East along HWY 20." While proximity to a highway can sometimes imply noise, this reviewer specifically mentioned that it was a "quiet night" despite the location. The campground itself is described as "small yet nice and not too crowded," which could be attractive to those seeking a more intimate camping experience compared to larger, busier campgrounds. Most sites reportedly have "flat areas for vehicles or tents," indicating some level of preparation for comfortable setup.

In terms of services and features, Lone Fir Campground offers "running water," which is a significant convenience for campers. However, it's important to note that the water spigots apparently do not have a threaded head for hoses, potentially making it difficult to fill up water tanks directly. Campers relying on this service should be prepared with alternative methods for water collection. The campground also provides toilet facilities, described as "non-flushing toilets," which are noted to be "overall clean and well kept," suggesting that while not the most modern, they are maintained to a reasonable standard.

For those with larger vehicles, the campground has "one or two large pull through for the big rigs out there (site 2 and 23)," which is a valuable feature for RV owners or those with trailers. Additionally, a "campground host was available to answer any questions," indicating on-site assistance and support for campers. The payment system is "first come basis, $12/per day site charge," making it an affordable option. It's worth noting that the first-come-first-serve policy means reservations are not taken, so availability depends on arrival time.

One area for potential improvement mentioned by a reviewer is the lack of recycling facilities, which has led to "lots of cans and bottles on the dumpster." Campers who prioritize recycling might find this a drawback and should plan accordingly for their waste disposal. Additionally, the signage is "starting to show signs of wear…a little difficult to read when dark," which could be a minor inconvenience upon arrival, especially at night.

Promotional aspects of Lone Fir Campground, based on the reviews, include its affordability ($12/per day), its generally quiet atmosphere despite highway proximity, the availability of running water and clean (albeit non-flushing) washrooms, and the presence of a helpful campground host. The beautiful drive along Highway 20 to reach the campground could also be considered a promotional point for those coming from the west.

For local users searching for "camping near me" around Winthrop, WA, Lone Fir Campground presents itself as a budget-friendly, relatively quiet, and conveniently located option. The small size of the campground might appeal to those who prefer a less crowded environment. The availability of running water and washroom facilities adds to the basic comforts of camping. The presence of pull-through sites is a significant benefit for RVers.

However, potential campers should be aware of the lack of threaded water spigots, the non-flushing toilets, the absence of recycling, and potentially less-than-ideal signage in the dark. One reviewer also advises to "bring bug spray" as bugs were more noticeable at certain times of the day. This suggests that insect activity might be a factor to consider, particularly during warmer months or specific times of the day.

In summary, Lone Fir Campground near Winthrop, WA, offers an accessible and affordable camping experience. Its small size and reported quietness, despite being near Highway 20, are positive attributes. The provision of running water and clean washrooms, along with a campground host, adds to its appeal. For RV owners, the pull-through sites are a definite plus. However, campers should be prepared for non-threaded water spigots, the lack of recycling, potentially buggy conditions at times, and the need for bug spray. The first-come-first-serve nature of the campground also means planning flexibility is required.

For those looking for "camping near me" that is straightforward, budget-friendly, and located in a scenic area accessible via Highway 20, Lone Fir Campground is worth considering. Its positive aspects, such as the quiet nights and helpful host, seem to outweigh the minor inconveniences mentioned in the reviews. Just remember to come prepared for the specific conditions and amenities offered.
