Lost Pines Introduce
For local users seeking a "camping near me" experience in the vicinity of Knox, Indiana, Lost Pines Campground, located at 4257 S 675 E, Knox, IN 46534, USA, presents a mixed bag of appealing features and areas that some visitors have found less than satisfactory. You can contact them at (574) 772-2351 or +1 574-772-2351 to inquire about reservations and current conditions.
Within the "camping near me" category, Lost Pines appears to be a destination that attracts families and those looking for a generally safe and community-oriented camping environment. Several reviewers highlight the family-friendly atmosphere, noting "lots of kids running around" and a sense of safety, particularly due to the campground being "well lit." The presence of "plenty of trees to hang hammocks between" is also a significant environmental plus, offering shade and enhancing the traditional camping feel that many seek when looking for "camping near me." One particularly positive anecdote mentions the helpfulness of the new owners, who even lent a tent to a guest whose own failed.
The location of Lost Pines is also frequently praised. It is described as "great," with convenient access to an ice cream shop nearby – a definite bonus for families and those with a sweet tooth. The presence of a dock for kids to swim off suggests a water-based recreational opportunity, likely on a lake, which can be a major draw during warmer months. Additionally, the campground is located near a "friendly little town," implying easy access to local amenities and perhaps a charming atmosphere to explore. The convenience of having ice and wood available at the campground itself is also noted as a positive service.
However, alongside these positive aspects, significant concerns have been raised regarding the condition of the campground bathrooms. Multiple reviewers describe them as "yucky," "disaster," and "disgusting." One reviewer explicitly states that they "are not remodeled for the past 25 years," indicating a potentially long-standing issue. Specific complaints include dirty showers with "spiderwebs and debris on the floor" and frequently clogged and unusable toilets. During one three-day stay, two out of three toilets were reportedly unusable. These issues with the bathroom facilities appear to be a major deterrent for some visitors, with one stating that they would visit more often if the bathrooms were fixed and ultimately shortening their stay due to these conditions.
Another significant concern raised by a reviewer pertains to the lack of a clear policy structure regarding noise levels. It was reported that on some nights, music was "so loud until 4 or 5 am," which would undoubtedly disrupt the peace and quiet that many campers seek when looking for a "camping near me" experience focused on relaxation. This suggests a potential inconsistency in managing noise levels within the campground, which could be a significant drawback for those sensitive to noise or traveling with young children.
Despite these criticisms, the overall sentiment seems to lean towards the positive, with acknowledgments that the "place itself is also not bad" and that the new owners "seem friendly, on-site, and helpful." The availability of a pool is also mentioned as a positive feature, although no details about its condition or usability are provided. The ability to bike around the lake further adds to the recreational opportunities available at or near Lost Pines Campground.
In terms of promotional information that can be gleaned from these reviews, Lost Pines Campground could emphasize its family-friendly atmosphere, the safety and lighting within the grounds, the abundance of trees for a classic camping feel, the helpfulness of the new owners, and the convenient location near an ice cream shop, a swimming dock, and a friendly town. The availability of ice and wood on-site is another practical benefit to highlight. The potential for biking around the lake could also be promoted to those seeking active recreation.
However, it is crucial for Lost Pines to address the significant negative feedback regarding the bathroom facilities. Any promotional material should ideally acknowledge these concerns and, if improvements are planned or have been made, highlight these updates to reassure potential visitors. Similarly, establishing and enforcing clear policies regarding noise levels, especially during nighttime hours, would be essential to ensure a more pleasant experience for all campers.
For local users considering Lost Pines as a "camping near me" option, it is important to weigh the positive aspects – the family-friendly environment, the helpful owners, the pleasant natural setting with trees and lake access, and the convenient location – against the reported drawbacks of the outdated and poorly maintained bathrooms and the potential for late-night noise. If clean and well-maintained bathroom facilities are a high priority, or if you are particularly sensitive to noise at night, Lost Pines might not be the ideal choice based on recent visitor experiences. However, if these issues are less of a concern for you, or if you are willing to manage with personal provisions for hygiene and potentially bring earplugs, the other positive attributes of Lost Pines Campground might make it a worthwhile option, especially given the friendly new ownership and the appealing recreational opportunities.
Ultimately, local users searching for "camping near me" should consider their individual priorities and tolerance levels when evaluating Lost Pines Campground. The positive reviews regarding the atmosphere and location are encouraging, but the consistent negative feedback about the bathrooms and noise levels warrants careful consideration. It would be prudent to inquire with the campground management about any recent or planned improvements to the facilities and their policies on noise control before making a reservation.

Lost Pines Reviews
We had a really lovely time. It feels safe and is well lit. Lots of kids running around too. Plenty of trees to hang hammocks between. We stayed in tents in the space across from the office all the way back. The owner even lent us a tent when ours wouldn’t “pop up.” Bathrooms are a little yucky and could use some updating but its camping. We brought baby wipes and TP and we were just fine. Ice cream shop near-by, a dock for kids to swim off, friendly little town. Ice and wood available there which is convenient. New owners seem friendly, on-site, and helpful. 2 labor days in a row and we will be back!
Sep 02, 2024 · Magda SmidovaFirst of all location is great the place itself is also not bad there is a pool , not far ice cream shop you can bike around the lake. The campground bathrooms are disaster. They are not remodeled for the past 25 years. Showers disgusting dirty with spiderwebs and debris on the floor. During our 3 day stay 2 out of 3 toilets were clogged and not usable. It would be place to go more often but do to the bathroom situations we were only staying there 2 nights. It seems like there is no policy structure. Some nights the music is so loud until 4 or 5 am.Overall not bad lace to go but please have the bathrooms fixed and you will have more families come visit.
Jul 08, 2024 · anna jachymiakAwesome place, close to Chicago, perfect spot for a weekend getaway.Clean, reasonable sized pool. The Lady Owner is very friendly and helpful, same as Mr Husband 😀The resort is quite big, located in the woods.Option for rental golf carts. The cabin was clean and well equipped.Close distance to the public beach (although the beach is quite small, but water in the lake is warm and shallow so good for the kids. There is also some playground stuff installed.Grocery and liquor store within 15 min drive. We forgot to take our small travel grill but the Owners helped us with it.But don't forget yours! :)That's my second stay and we will be coming back.Thank you! 👍SylwiaPS.I just read some complaints about loud music. The night we were staying there was a karaoke going on.Our cabin was pretty close but my 86yo Grandma was able to sleep and did not have any complaints at all.Kids all ages are having the blast I'd say, hanging out together, even after dark.I saw it myself and even envied a little, for sure they have fun wandering around in the dark. Very adventurous and memorable 😁of course you gotta be careful because you don't know another people staying in the next cabin or RV. But that's common sense. The campground feels safe, good place for both, families with kids or just to party.Room for everyone.Thank you again 😀
Jun 24, 2024 · SylwiaI made reservations at lost Pines for my RV for four nights. I had never been in the area and I had to rely on the website. On the website it looks like a very nice place to camp when in reality it is a dump. Everything is old and moldy. Let’s say it has seen it better days. It is very tired. The site I was placed on was directly near a cabin and consisted of dirt everywhere. Not even a picnic table. A broken fire ring, and some old metal object that had been sitting there for years. Quite the ugly site. I had arrived late when the owner was not there And I was busy the next day as I was helping my son get settled at his new place at Culver Academy. I called the campground to tell them that I was not satisfied with my site and that I was expecting a different experience from what was reality. The young lady at the front office was very kind and said that she would call the owner to see if she would reimburse me. I told her that I would pay for two nights since I wouldn’t be able to pull my camper off the site until after 6 PM and thought it was only fair. She called me back and told me that I would be reimbursed and I thanked her. Well, it was 5:20 in the afternoon and I was on my way back from South Bend with my son after searching for some furniture and the owner herself called me and very nastily told me if I wanted my refund I needed to get my camper offsite . I told her I would be there after 6 o’clock like I told the girl at the office and she said well you better hurry up. Remember now, I had told the girl at the office that I would pay for two nights so legally that spot was mine until the following morning until the 10 AM checkout time and this owner was forcing me out a day ahead of time. I figured OK maybe she’s going to reimburse me three nights instead of two nights? Well, I looked at my credit card bill and she only reimbursed me two nights. I’m not complaining about that as I told the girl in the office that I would pay for two nights, but what I am angry about is her attitude towards me to get my camper off her campsite the night that I had actually paid her in full. I never met this woman, but she seems like a nasty person just like her campground.
Jul 30, 2024 · Peter CioprynaThe owners are amazing, and being by the beach and lake are excellent features. The rooms are lovely and the pool is fantastic. I recommend for any families looking for a fun getaway over the summer. Some days there are parties that are loads of fun. If you go I hope you and anyone else you go with have a blast.
