Had a surreal unacceptable unbelievably terrible experience with the owner of this campground whose name is Tom. Tom personally showed my partner and myself a trailer he has for sale in his campground for $3,000. Yes for $3,000 it does not get you much and most people would think it's below par. We are just looking for a little weekend getaway place & this trailer fit our needs perfectly. Tom was all excited to sell me the trailer until he realized that my partner wasn't just a friend this is my partner. We are both gay males. As soon as he figured that out he told me point-blank this isn't the place for us and we should look at other properties that would suit our needs. Taken back by what he's telling us because I had the cash and ready to go on this deal.... I said we will think about it. It just didn't feel right to me what he was saying left us with a bad feeling. I have never in my life been treated in such poor way. I am a white middle-aged masculine male. When I called him the very next day he didn't pick up. After several times calling he finally picked up. I was kind and cordial and told him we would like to proceed with the deal. To which he hung up on me.Little did he know that a personal passion of mine is to improve and beautify real estate. I'm former 4-year term vice president of the board of directors of a 15 million dollarNaples Florida 54 unit condominium complex. I got along fabulously with my neighbors.... I had the will and kindness of the people of my community on my side while on the board of directors wow passionately improving and beautifying the community with no special assessments or cost to owners. Let me tell you the residents loved the improvements and I never had one cro ss word argument or sleight of I with any of the other owners and we're talking the board of directors here we all know how difficult it can be for a group of people to get along in such capacity. So sad for Tom his short-sightedness and closed-minded approach to others kept a good future neighbor friend and dedicated community servant from his community. I hope others will read this posting to see what a sad situation this is and you can make your own determination and judgments if this is a place you want to bring your family and friends. - Erik A
Hoosier Hideaway Overview Intro Photos Location Reviews

Hoosier Hideaway Introduce

For local users seeking "camping near me" with the added appeal of lake access and cabin rentals, Hoosier Hideaway, located at 1105 N Main St, Kewanna, IN 46939, USA, presents a unique option. Based on recent customer reviews, experiences at Hoosier Hideaway appear to be varied, encompassing both positive aspects like lakefront access and affordability, as well as a significant negative report concerning the owner's behavior. This introduction aims to provide an objective overview of the environment, services, and features based on these reviews, allowing potential local users to form their own informed opinions.

The environment of Hoosier Hideaway is centered around its lakefront location, offering the allure of water-based activities and scenic views. One reviewer mentioned the availability of "lake house rentals," suggesting that the primary accommodation type goes beyond traditional campsites. The presence of a lake allows for activities such as swimming (as implied by the pontoon rental review) and enjoying the waterfront. The campground is described as potentially being situated amongst lake residents, as one reviewer noted, "There are some people who live on the lake, so you may be renting next to an owner." This suggests a mixed community atmosphere within the property.

In terms of services, Hoosier Hideaway offers cabin rentals that, while "dated," reportedly "come with all the basics." This suggests functional but perhaps not modern accommodations. A significant service highlighted is the availability of a "pontoon available for rent," which one reviewer found "worth the price" due to its daily fee structure, contrasting favorably with hourly rental rates often found elsewhere. This provides a valuable amenity for guests looking to enjoy the lake. The owner is described in one positive review as "a really nice guy. Laid back and stays out of your way, but will definitely stay for an chat if you get to talking- a really friendly guy." This suggests a generally approachable and accommodating host. The campground is also mentioned as being pet-friendly, as the reviewer who rented the pontoon stayed with their dog.

The features of Hoosier Hideaway include the lake itself, offering swimming and boating opportunities (via the pontoon rental). The presence of "lake house rentals" and "cabins" provides accommodation options beyond traditional tent camping. A "small beach area" is also mentioned, offering another way for guests to enjoy the lakefront. The positive review also suggests a "chill getaway" vibe, catering to those seeking relaxation rather than a lively party atmosphere. The affordability of the lake house rentals is also highlighted as a key feature, with one reviewer stating, "Hoosier hideaway had THE best prices for lake house rentals."

However, a deeply concerning review details an alleged discriminatory experience with the owner, Tom. According to this account, after showing interest in purchasing a trailer for sale within the campground, the owner's demeanor changed negatively upon realizing the potential buyer was in a same-sex relationship. The reviewer alleges that the owner stated "this isn't the place for us" and suggested they look elsewhere. Subsequent attempts to proceed with the purchase were reportedly met with the owner hanging up the phone. This review raises serious concerns about the inclusivity and welcoming nature of the campground under its current ownership.

Considering the contrasting reviews, potential local users should be aware of both the positive aspects, such as affordable lakefront rentals and a seemingly laid-back atmosphere, as well as the serious allegation of discriminatory behavior by the owner. The positive review praising the owner's friendliness stands in stark contrast to the negative account. It is important to note that the alleged discriminatory incident is a significant factor that may influence potential guests' decisions.

Promotional information is limited, but the mention of "THE best prices for lake house rentals" can be considered a promotional point. Additionally, the availability of a pontoon for daily rental at a reasonable price is another potential draw for those looking to enjoy lake activities without exorbitant hourly fees. The pet-friendly policy might also attract a specific segment of the local camping community.

In conclusion, Hoosier Hideaway offers lakefront accommodations and amenities such as pontoon rentals at potentially attractive prices. It appears to cater to those seeking a relaxed getaway with opportunities to enjoy the lake. However, a serious allegation of discriminatory behavior by the owner against a prospective buyer based on their sexual orientation presents a significant concern that potential guests should consider. While one reviewer found the owner friendly, the other account paints a troubling picture. Local users searching for "camping near me" at Hoosier Hideaway should weigh the reported affordability and lake access against the alleged discriminatory experience and the dated nature of the cabins. It may be prudent to seek further information or clarification directly from Hoosier Hideaway at (574) 653-2017 or +1 574-653-2017 before making a booking, and to consider whether the reported negative experience aligns with their values and expectations for a welcoming and inclusive environment.
