This introduction will delve into the environment, services, features, and promotional aspects of Madrone Campground, providing a comprehensive overview for prospective visitors.
The address for Madrone Campground is San Juan Bautista, CA 95045, USA, specifically placing it within the vast expanse of Hollister Hills SVRA. This location implies a landscape designed for and dedicated to off-road recreation. The environment of Madrone Campground is characterized by hills, trails, and open areas suitable for riding, but it also provides a comfortable and well-maintained camping space. Reviews highlight "decent tree coverage over most the fire pits," suggesting a balance between open areas for activity and shaded spots for relaxation. While the park is known for its off-road trails, the campground itself strives to offer a pleasant natural setting for campers to unwind after a day of riding. The presence of a "water truck comes by daily for dust control" is a significant environmental management effort, aimed at improving air quality and comfort for campers, especially during dry seasons when dust can be a major concern in off-road parks.
In terms of services and facilities, Madrone Campground is notably well-equipped for a park that caters to such active pursuits. One of the most frequently praised amenities is the availability of "bathrooms with hot showers." This is a significant comfort for campers, particularly after a day of dusty riding, and is a feature not always found at more primitive campgrounds. Flushing toilets are also available, contributing to a more comfortable and hygienic camping experience. Campers will find "lots of water faucets spaced out all over camp grounds," ensuring easy access to potable water for cooking, cleaning, and hydration. Fire pits are provided for traditional campfire experiences, though it's important to note that ground fires are generally not allowed, and fires must be contained within state-provided rings. While there are no RV hookups directly at Madrone Campground, the facilities cater well to both tent and self-contained RV camping. The park store, located at another campground within Hollister Hills SVRA, offers "a convenient store and small moto shop that does small repairs and has a bunch of stuff for sale," which is an invaluable service for off-roaders who might need supplies or minor repairs during their stay.

Campers can enjoy "riding high road trails," suggesting diverse terrain for exploration. The park welcomes motorcycles and ATVs, with regulations in place regarding sound limits (96 decibels for bikes and ATVs) to ensure a more enjoyable experience for everyone and minimize noise pollution. The presence of park rangers is also a key feature, ensuring safety and providing assistance when needed, as highlighted by a reviewer who appreciated the "presence of caring and kind park rangers!" The campground's design, which often lacks designated sites, allows campers to "choose their own spot," offering a sense of freedom and flexibility, especially for larger groups or those with specific setup preferences. Accessibility is also considered, with some campsites specifically reserved for campers with accessibility needs, featuring accessible restrooms and showers.
Promotional information, gleaned from customer reviews, paints a picture of a vibrant and engaging campground. One long-time visitor, who has "always have a blast at the hills," describes Madrone as a "fun place to ride." While it can get "super packed this holiday weekend," indicating its popularity, the general sentiment is that campers still have a great time. The availability of "nice bathrooms hot showers for those who don't have trailers" is a strong selling point, emphasizing the park's commitment to camper comfort. The daily water truck for dust control is another highlight, showcasing proactive management. The presence of the "convenient store and small moto shop" within the broader park provides practical advantages. For those new to off-roading or the area, the advice to "take care of this little gem" speaks to the community's appreciation for the park and encourages responsible enjoyment. Despite its popularity, especially on weekends, the atmosphere is often described as respectful and not overly loud, making for a pleasant camping experience. The variety of ranger-led educational activities and special events hosted by Hollister Hills SVRA also adds to the appeal, offering more than just riding opportunities.
It's important for prospective campers to be aware of certain regulations and considerations. Quiet hours are typically from 10 PM to sunrise. Fires are permitted only in state-provided fire rings, and ground fires are prohibited. Firewood can be purchased at the park store, but collecting downed wood from the park is not allowed to preserve the natural environment. Cell service can be minimal, though free park WiFi is available in the Lower Ranch campgrounds. Dogs are allowed on a tended 6-foot leash or confined, but are prohibited on motorized trails (service animals excepted). Drones are not allowed in the park. The maximum stay is 15 days, with a limit of 30 days within a one-year period. While the focus is heavily on OHV recreation, the amenities provided at Madrone Campground aim to make the stay as comfortable and enjoyable as possible for all visitors.

May 27, 2019 · Nathan GaribaySo all I did was just sleep out here a few nights. It was good for that with the exception that at 8am expect the folks that are here for motorized activities to be out in force.Lots of small wildlife around to see. Bathrooms and showers were surprisingly clean. Shop around for showers, had one that was cold water and would auto-shut off after 10 seconds. Found a few that were much warmer and would ding at 60 seconds.
Aug 09, 2018 · Michael McLarenFree showers but they don't drain well so bring some flip-flops. Great free WiFi that's fast. No cellular coverage. Can get packed fast so get there on Friday early as possible. Can get loud at night but not anything out the norm. All and all 1 of my fav spots to camp at Hollister.
Aug 19, 2018 · NovaOne of 9 California State SVRA's. I'd guess that they all have areas set aside for Wildlife Habitat. Open to Hiking and Cycling far from the Off Road areas. Off Roaders pay for Wild Life Habitat through Off Road Vehicle Registration and User Fees. By design we are Environmentalists and Happy Campers !
