This is not a bad park at all. They do have a putt-putt course, it needs work but is functional. The pool table in the rec room is pretty bad. The swimming pool was great and the basketball court was acceptable. It is 5 miles off the main road which gives you no road or train noise. There are about 8 deer on property that I saw almost every day. Lots of squirrels that dig holes, so watch your step. No problem coming back here. Many new 50amp pedestals.Full video on youtube at Coolest Life - Anthony McCool

Thousand Trails San Benito Introduce

For those seeking a tranquil and amenity-rich camping experience in the heart of California's rolling hills, Thousand Trails San Benito stands out as a prime destination. Located at 16225 Cienega Rd, Paicines, CA 95043, USA, this extensive resort caters to a wide array of campers, from RV enthusiasts to those preferring cabin comfort. As a key option for individuals and families searching for "Camping Near Me" that combines a natural, secluded environment with a wealth of recreational facilities, Thousand Trails San Benito offers a memorable and relaxing escape.

Environment and Setting

Thousand Trails San Benito is characterized by its peaceful, natural surroundings, offering a true escape from the clamor of urban life. The resort is situated approximately 5 miles off the main road (Hwy 25), a distance that effectively eliminates road or train noise, contributing to its quiet and serene atmosphere. This secluded setting is a significant draw for campers looking for tranquility. The property is known for its abundant wildlife; guests frequently report seeing deer, and ground squirrels are a common sight, though visitors should be mindful of their digging. The resort is set amidst rolling hills and features a mix of trees and open spaces, providing a picturesque backdrop for camping. While some parts of the park may show signs of wear and tear, especially after events like flooding, the natural beauty of the area remains a consistent highlight. The dry climate means that some areas might appear "browner" at certain times of the year, but the presence of numerous plants and animals around enhances the immersive outdoor experience. The drive in, however, is noted by some as "rough and narrow," requiring careful navigation for 5 miles, particularly for larger rigs. This highlights the rural, off-the-beaten-path nature of the campground.

Services and Amenities

Thousand Trails San Benito offers a comprehensive range of services and amenities designed to ensure a comfortable and entertaining stay for its guests. For RVers, the park boasts "full hookups with big spaces," including a significant number of new 50-amp pedestals, indicating ongoing improvements to its electrical infrastructure. The resort has a large capacity, with 596 sites available, many of which are pull-through, making it convenient for large rigs. In addition to RV sites, the resort also provides "an assortment of nice cabins" for those who prefer more traditional accommodations, often featuring amenities like kitchens and private bathrooms. Water and sewer connections are standard at RV sites. For leisure and recreation, the resort features a large swimming pool, which is highly praised by guests. A clubhouse or recreation room is available, offering indoor activities, though some equipment, like the pool table, might be in need of repair. A mini-golf course is also present, though it may require some maintenance. For active guests, a basketball court and other outdoor sports facilities are typically available. The resort is very pet-friendly, with a "big dog park" provided for furry companions. A laundry room is on-site for guest convenience. Wi-Fi is generally available in public areas, with the option to purchase in-site Wi-Fi. The resort also offers planned activities, sometimes coordinated by an Activities Director, catering to various age groups and interests. A camp store is usually available for basic supplies, and there might be a restaurant or snack bar on-site. The park is open year-round, allowing for visits during any season. The main phone number for the resort is (831) 389-4477 or +1 831-389-4477.

Features and Site Information

As a Thousand Trails property, San Benito often operates on a first-come, first-served basis for specific campsites once guests have entered the park with a reservation or membership. The emphasis on "big spaces" allows for comfortable setups for various RV sizes. The presence of "many new 50-amp pedestals" indicates an effort to upgrade and maintain the electrical infrastructure, a crucial feature for modern RVs. While some sites may be in need of general updating, tree trimming, or sewer improvements, the park is actively working to address these. The general layout and "space between lots" are generally considered good, avoiding the "jammed together RV park like some Thousand trails parks." This offers a greater sense of privacy than highly condensed campgrounds. The park's management and staff are consistently praised for being "really nice," which significantly contributes to the overall guest experience. The park is open to both Thousand Trails members and non-members, making it accessible to a broader range of campers. Check-in for campsites is typically at 12 noon, and check-out is 11 a.m. for campsites, with rental check-in at 4 p.m.

Promotional Information and Nearby Attractions

Thousand Trails San Benito is promoted as a "fantastic spot for those looking to immerse themselves in nature while enjoying a range of amenities." It's pitched as a "perfect year-round getaway" due to its comfortable temperatures. The consistent sighting of deer and other wildlife is a major selling point, highlighting the immersive natural experience. While the resort's immediate vicinity offers limited external attractions ("There's nothing else to see or do anywhere close" is a sentiment expressed by some), its primary draw for external exploration is its proximity to Pinnacles National Park, which is about a half-hour drive away. This makes it an excellent base for hiking, rock climbing, and wildlife viewing (including California Condors) within the national park. For those willing to travel further, popular coastal destinations like Santa Cruz and Monterey are approximately an hour to an hour-and-a-half drive away, offering access to the Monterey Bay Aquarium and other coastal attractions. The resort's on-site amenities, such as bike trails, fishing opportunities (if available), and the variety of planned activities, are key to keeping guests entertained within the property. The park encourages families to visit, providing "a good, wholesome environment" with activities designed for children. For general inquiries or to book a stay, the resort can be reached directly at (831) 389-4477. For membership information, Thousand Trails offers a toll-free number at (877) 392-7604.
