Mayberry Campground Introduce
Are you searching for "camping near me" in the vicinity of Mt. Airy, North Carolina? Mayberry Campground, located at 114 Byron Bunker Ln, Mt Airy, NC 27030, USA, offers a camping experience that, based on recent customer reviews, presents both positive aspects and areas for potential improvement. For local users considering this campground, it's important to have a balanced view based on the feedback available.
The environment of Mayberry Campground is described by one guest as "beautiful." The presence of ponds that are enjoyed for fishing suggests a natural setting with water features. The campground is also noted to be conveniently located, approximately 15 minutes from Mt. Airy, providing a balance between a natural retreat and accessibility to the town's amenities. One reviewer who stayed at site 38 found it to be a "good sized and deep enough" site, accommodating their fifth wheel and truck. This indicates that the campground can cater to larger RVs. However, this particular site lacked a picnic table, which was mentioned as the only negative for that guest.
In terms of services and features, Mayberry Campground offers fishing ponds that are appreciated by those who enjoy angling. The availability of sites large enough to accommodate fifth wheels and trucks is a feature for RV travelers. However, the experience seems to vary depending on the specific site. One reviewer who stayed at site 88 had a significantly negative experience. They found the power and sewerage hookups for the adjacent site (89) to be very close to their door (within 4 feet). This proximity, coupled with the small size of site 88 (deemed unsuitable for a 26-foot camper), led to discomfort and a feeling of encroachment when a larger fifth wheeler subsequently occupied site 89.
The features of Mayberry Campground, as gleaned from the reviews, include varying site sizes, some capable of accommodating larger RVs, and the amenity of fishing ponds. However, there are concerns regarding the layout and suitability of certain sites. Specifically, site 88 was criticized for being too small for a 26-foot camper and for the close proximity of hookups from the neighboring site. Additionally, the limited space outside site 88, which reportedly backed into a ravine, restricted the ability of those campers to comfortably enjoy the outdoors at their site. The absence of a picnic table at least on site 38 was also noted.
Promotional information is not explicitly provided, but the positive comment about the "beautiful campground" and the enjoyment of the fishing ponds could be seen as such. The campground's proximity to Mt. Airy is also a potential selling point for those wanting to explore the town while enjoying a camping experience. However, the negative experiences shared by another reviewer, particularly regarding site 88 and the issues with neighboring site occupancy, serve as an important counterpoint and highlight areas where the campground may need to improve.
The negative review from a guest who stayed at site 88 raises significant concerns about site suitability and the management of reservations. The guest's complaint included the small size of the site for their camper, the close proximity of hookups from site 89, the limited usable space due to a nearby ravine, and the issue of site 89 being occupied by a much larger unit than anticipated by the campground staff, leading to encroachment. This guest explicitly stated they would not return and felt their complaint was not adequately addressed by management in a previous response.
For local users searching for "camping near me," Mayberry Campground presents a location near Mt. Airy with the appeal of fishing ponds and sites that can accommodate larger RVs. However, potential campers should be aware that experiences can vary significantly depending on the chosen site. The issues raised about site 88, in particular, regarding size, layout, and proximity to neighboring hookups, are important to consider when making a booking. It might be prudent to inquire specifically about the details and suitability of your chosen site, especially if you have a larger RV or specific space requirements.
To get more information about Mayberry Campground, including site availability and specific amenities for each site (like the presence of a picnic table), local users can contact them directly using the provided phone numbers: (336) 789-6199 or +1 336-789-6199. When booking, it would be wise to ask detailed questions about the site you are interested in to ensure it meets your needs and to inquire about the layout relative to neighboring sites.
In conclusion, Mayberry Campground offers a "camping near me" option in Mt. Airy, NC, with a beautiful environment and fishing ponds. While some sites are well-received, such as site 38, others, like site 88, have received negative feedback regarding size, layout, and proximity to neighboring hookups. Potential campers should be aware of these varying experiences and are advised to seek detailed information about their specific site before booking to ensure a satisfactory stay. The campground's proximity to Mt. Airy is a plus, but the inconsistencies in site quality and management of site assignments appear to be areas where improvements could enhance the overall guest experience.

Mayberry Campground Reviews
We recently stayed at site 38. The site was good sized and deep enough to park truck in front of our fifth wheel. Only negative, was no picnic table. My husband enjoyed the ponds as he enjoys fishing. It's 15 minutes from Mt. Airy. Enjoyed our stay. Beautiful campground. Thanks for all you do.
May 02, 2025 · Joyce MorrisThis was our third trip and we took site 88. It’s absolutely horrible. The site 89 power and sewerage hookups were literally 4’ from my door. 1- they should totally not rent out site 88 for 26’. 2-I went to the office Friday morning and was told 89 would stay empty. Later in the evening a fifth wheeler pulled in site 89. His unit was way too big and now fully encroached on my site. 3- the amount of space out my door was 3’ then it went into a ravine. We couldn’t sit out side and watch the outdoor tv.Staff needs to make sure they know details of a site being empty or not. They should not let campers bigger than 15’ camper in 88 or 89. They should look into combining 88-89.I will not be back.Mgmt in your response you did not read my complaint. There was someone in site 89 next to me. I have proof of pics below
Apr 15, 2025 · Mike FieldsWe stayed a few nights here as part of a seasonal trip between South Carolina and Michigan. We were immediately impressed! The staff was very friendly and helpful, and made us feel welcome. The facilities were clean and very well-maintained, which is always a huge plus. The campground offers full hook-ups, including water, sewer, and both 50/30 amp electric. Free WiFi is available, but we used our Starlink. The picturesque views of the Blue Ridge Mountains were absolutely stunning! It's also conveniently located near Mt. Airy, wineries, local restaurants, and plenty of outdoor activities. Be sure to visit the on-site CampStore for an impressive selection of camping gear and accessories. We were in site #6, and for future stays I'd probably avoid loop #6-12 since its design made parking ahead of our trailer challenging. It also would be helpful if the park installed more pet waste stations throughout the grounds.
Apr 12, 2025 · Dick TerpstraHighly Recommend this Campground when your journeying North or South and need an overnight stay! Large sites that can accommodate big rigs! Only negative is Campers driving to fast into the night on the gravel roads..but that certainly isn't the hosts fault! I'm sure we will return one day.
Feb 20, 2025 · Lisa SmithPros: Friendly staff, Very neat and clean sites, Level sites, Playground, Well stocked camping accessories store (no groceries), Golf carts for rent, Some sites are spacious, Clean Bathhouses, Quiet area, All gravel sites, Nice grassy areas, Nice roads within campgrounds, Grounds highly maintained.Cons: Some sites are tite and not spacious, Only 2 bathhouses, No hooks or place to put your clothes or towels in bathhouses except on toilet, Ran out of toilet paper-no replacement, Rental golf carts were old with stained seats and not really worth daily rental fee.
