Mays Landing Campground Introduce
For local users exploring the "camping near me" category, Mays Landing Campground, located at 1079 12th Ave, Mays Landing, NJ 08330, USA, presents itself as an option for both short-term and potentially longer seasonal stays. With contact numbers (609) 476-2811 and +1 609-476-2811, this campground has garnered mixed reviews from recent visitors, highlighting both positive and significant negative aspects that potential campers should carefully consider.
One reviewer, who identified as a member of Thousand Trails, expressed considerable disappointment with their experience, particularly in relation to the expectation of a "luxury resort." This suggests that Mays Landing Campground might be affiliated with the Thousand Trails network, which typically comprises campgrounds offering various amenities and experiences. However, this reviewer's account paints a picture far from luxurious, especially concerning the facilities and cleanliness during a peak period like Labor Day.
A major concern raised was the severely limited number of bathroom and shower facilities available for the entire campground. The reviewer stated that there was "one bathroom/shower for the whole campground on Labor Day," which would undoubtedly lead to significant inconvenience and potential hygiene issues given the likely high occupancy during such a holiday weekend. Furthermore, the condition of this single facility was described as "absolutely disgusting," with mentions of "mold on the shower curtain" and a disturbingly unsanitary floor. The detail about dropping socks and finding them covered in black dirt within seconds vividly illustrates the poor state of cleanliness reported in the bathroom.
The negative experiences extended to the cabin rental. According to the same reviewer, the cabin was also "absolutely disgusting." Specific issues included bunk beds "covered in dirt" and a substantial accumulation of dirt on the floor, estimated at about an inch. Additionally, the cabin was described as "very small," which, while acknowledged at the time of booking, contributed to a cramped and uncomfortable living space, especially given the reported lack of cleanliness.
Another point of criticism involved the lack of clear information regarding waste disposal. The reviewer recounted an incident where they were rudely directed to the dumpster by the manager after attempting to dispose of trash in a can they found. While the ultimate instruction to use the dumpster was reasonable, the lack of initial guidance for newcomers and the manner in which the correction was delivered were noted as negative aspects of the management's communication.
Noise levels also appear to be a significant issue at Mays Landing Campground. The reviewer reported that "multiple dogs were barking all night (including one of the managers’)," severely disrupting their sleep. Such noise pollution can detract significantly from the camping experience, which often involves seeking peace and quiet in a natural setting.
Despite the overwhelmingly negative feedback regarding cleanliness, facilities, and management communication from this particular reviewer, there was one positive aspect highlighted: "the pool was big and it was very clean." This suggests that at least one amenity was well-maintained and enjoyable for guests. However, this single positive point was starkly contrasted with the numerous and serious concerns about the overall cleanliness of the campground and its accommodations.
In contrast to the detailed negative review, another customer who "Just started our seasonal site here" offered a brief but positive initial impression, describing the atmosphere as "very friendly" and "good." This suggests that there might be a more positive experience for those who are part of the seasonal community at the campground. However, it's important to note that this positive feedback does not address the severe cleanliness and facility issues raised by the other reviewer who experienced a short-term stay in a cabin during a peak period.
Considering these contrasting reviews, local users exploring Mays Landing Campground through the "camping near me" category should be aware of the potential for significant issues related to cleanliness, the condition of facilities (particularly bathrooms and cabins), and potentially noise disturbances. While the presence of a large and clean pool is a noted positive, it appears to be overshadowed by more fundamental concerns about hygiene and basic comfort.
The fact that one reviewer was a member of Thousand Trails and had such a negative experience might be particularly relevant for other Thousand Trails members considering this location. The expectation of a certain standard associated with "luxury resort" status was clearly not met, according to this account.
For local users considering a seasonal site, the positive initial feedback from a new seasonal camper might be encouraging. However, it would be prudent to inquire specifically about the condition of facilities and the general maintenance of the campground before committing to a longer-term arrangement. Visiting the campground in person to assess the cleanliness and overall environment might be a wise step.
Given the strong negative feedback regarding cleanliness and the limited facilities reported during a peak season, potential short-term campers, especially those accustomed to a certain level of hygiene and comfort, might want to exercise caution or seek more recent and potentially contrasting reviews to get a more balanced perspective. The discrepancy between the two reviews suggests that experiences might vary significantly depending on the type of stay (short-term vs. seasonal) and the time of year.
In conclusion, for local users utilizing the "camping near me" platform, Mays Landing Campground presents a mixed picture. While it offers seasonal sites and cabin rentals, and boasts a large, clean pool, there are significant concerns raised by at least one recent visitor regarding the extreme lack of cleanliness in the bathrooms and cabins, inadequate facilities during peak times, and issues with management communication and noise. The positive initial impression from a new seasonal camper suggests that the experience for long-term residents might be different. However, prospective campers should weigh these contrasting reports carefully and consider visiting the site to form their own assessment before making a booking, especially for short-term stays or cabin rentals.

Mays Landing Campground Reviews
We are members of thousand trails, we were told this was a “luxury resort” it’s far from it. Firstly there was one bathroom/shower for the whole campground on Labor Day. The one bathroom they had was absolutely disgusting. There was mold on the shower curtain, I dropped a pair of socks on the floor for less than 5 seconds and when I picked them up the side that touched the ground was black. Secondly we got a cabin and our cabin was absolutely disgusting. The bunk beds were covered in dirt. The floor had about an inch of dirt on it as well. Our cabin was very small. we knew it was on the smaller side when we get it but there was no room to move. Thirdly they never informed us on where to throw out our trash when we left so, I found a trash can and went to throw it there and the manager yelled from her camper very rudely telling me to put it in the dumpster. Which that’s fine but they need to inform people who have never been there where the dumpster is. Lastly multiple dog were barking all night (including one of the managers). We barely were able to sleep with all the barking. The only nice thing I can say is the pool was big and it was very clean. Everything else was very dirty. Very disappointed I will not be returning.

Apr 08, 2025 · Robert “Will” PowellWe are Thousand Trails members and live about 30 minutes from this campground. It is nice to come here and not have to deal with traffic that plagues the Jersey Shore on the weekends. The staff is friendly and the grounds are kept clean. We can come and enjoy the pool and amenities and then have a short drive home.
May 27, 2024 · Dawn BakerThe staff was fantastic, super nice and helpful. Location was good, other campers really friendly as well. I can not say that my didn't have a good time, we made the best of the time together but things like the pictures of the mini golf that are presented on the different booking websites, looks nothing like that. The mini golf was completely run down and starting to rot in places. A little bit of TLC overall in the campground and this could be a really nice campground given its proximity to Ocean City.
Aug 08, 2023 · Kelly IannoneI have got to say Francine and her family (not employees) are probably the best I have seen. They have made moves/accommodations to help me and my family with my father in-law in a wheelchair and getting in and out of the site. They were soo Impressive that I booked October before I left I will revisit multiple times because of Francine, Virginia and the rest of the crew.
