The MCCS Big Bear Recreational Facility, located at 42499 Bristlecone Dr, Big Bear Lake, CA 92315, USA, offers a range of accommodation options, including RV sites and cabins, making it a potential destination for various types of travelers. As a listing on the 'Camping Near Me' platform, this facility caters to those looking for outdoor stays with the convenience of nearby amenities and attractions. This detailed introduction aims to provide local users with a comprehensive overview of the MCCS Big Bear Recreational Facility, drawing upon available information, including real customer reviews, to offer an objective perspective on its environment, services, and features.
Exploring the Environment and Location Near Big Bear Lake
The MCCS Big Bear Recreational Facility is situated in close proximity to Big Bear Lake, a well-known mountain resort destination in Southern California. This location offers a picturesque environment characterized by the surrounding San Bernardino Mountains, including pine forests and the beautiful Big Bear Lake itself. The facility on Bristlecone Dr benefits from this setting, likely providing a mountain atmosphere with opportunities for enjoying nature and outdoor activities associated with the Big Bear Lake region. One positive aspect highlighted in a review is the "tons of shade" at the RV site, suggesting mature trees that contribute to a comfortable and cooler camping experience, especially during warmer months. The same review also notes that while the town is "right down the road," the campground maintains a sense of separation from the urban bustle, offering a peaceful retreat. Another significant advantage of the location is its proximity to local attractions. Reviews mention being approximately 5 minutes from the Big Bear Zoo and about 10 minutes from the Village, which is the downtown area of Big Bear Lake, offering shops, restaurants, and entertainment options. This blend of a natural setting with easy access to town amenities makes the MCCS Big Bear Recreational Facility an appealing choice for those who want both relaxation and convenience.
Services and Amenities Offered at the Facility
Based on the customer reviews, the MCCS Big Bear Recreational Facility offers several services and amenities to enhance the guest experience. For RV campers, the availability of "almost perfectly level" RV sites, such as site #5 mentioned in a review, is a significant convenience, simplifying the setup process. The presence of a "water spicket at our site" is another valuable amenity for RV users. The facility also boasts a "super nice" rec room, which could offer a space for relaxation, socializing, or indoor activities, although specific details about the rec room's features are not provided. For those opting for cabin stays, the reviews offer a mixed perspective on cleanliness. While one reviewer was "impressed with the cabin," they also noted that it "was not very clean" upon arrival, specifically mentioning the need for vacuuming of the floor/carpet. This suggests that while the cabins themselves might be well-appointed, the housekeeping service might be inconsistent. Another important service-related point for cabin guests is the lack of cable TV; instead, guests need to "cast from your phone to the TV," indicating that internet access (presumably Wi-Fi) is available and that guests need to use their own devices for entertainment. The front desk staff is consistently praised for being "very friendly and professional" and providing a "very smooth check-in" experience. However, one reviewer mentioned "no housekeeping while we were there," which impacted their service rating, suggesting that daily housekeeping might not be a standard offering for cabin stays. The overall service experience seems to be positive regarding the front desk but potentially inconsistent concerning cabin cleanliness and housekeeping.
Features of the RV Sites and Cabins
The MCCS Big Bear Recreational Facility offers distinct features for both RV sites and cabin accommodations. The RV sites benefit from being "almost perfectly level," which is crucial for comfortable and safe RV parking and operation of onboard systems. The availability of individual water spickets at the RV sites adds to the convenience for RV campers. The "tons of shade" at the RV sites is another significant feature, providing a more enjoyable outdoor experience, especially during sunny days. The rec room serves as a communal feature for all guests, potentially offering a space for leisure and interaction. For the cabins, the positive initial impression suggests they are well-built or nicely designed. However, the cleanliness issue upon arrival is a notable drawback. The feature of having TVs in the rooms but requiring guests to cast from their phones indicates a modern approach to entertainment but might be inconvenient for those without smartphones or who prefer traditional cable TV. The lack of housekeeping during the stay, as mentioned in one review, is another feature (or lack thereof) that cabin guests should be aware of. The proximity to attractions like the Big Bear Zoo and the Village is a significant locational feature that enhances the overall appeal of the facility for those wanting easy access to local entertainment and amenities.

Summary and Considerations for Local Users
The MCCS Big Bear Recreational Facility near Big Bear Lake offers a convenient location with easy access to both the natural beauty of the area and local attractions like the zoo and the Village. The facility provides both RV sites, noted for being level and offering shade and water spickets, and cabins that are generally well-regarded in terms of design. The presence of a rec room is another positive aspect. However, potential drawbacks include inconsistent cabin cleanliness upon arrival and the lack of daily housekeeping for cabin stays. Additionally, cabin guests should be aware that TV entertainment relies on casting from their phones as there is no cable TV. The front desk staff receives high praise for their friendliness and professionalism. For local users considering this facility through 'Camping Near Me', it is recommended to weigh the positive aspects of location and some amenities against the potential downsides related to cabin cleanliness and entertainment options. Contacting the facility directly for the most up-to-date information on availability, pricing, and any potential promotional offers is crucial. MCCS Big Bear Recreational Facility Reviews
We used the RV site #5 which was almost perfectly level! The rec room was super nice too and a water spicket at our site. Tons of shade and town is right down the road but you can't tell. The people were really nice and answered all our questions.
Apr 23, 2025 · Rebecca FraskaThe front desk staff was very friendly and professional. Very smooth check-in. I was impressed with the cabin HOWEVER When we arrive the cabin was not very clean. Beds were made but the floor/carpet could have been vacuumed. We do take our shoes off and stepped on a lot of stuff. The rooms have NO cable, you have to cast from your phone to the TV. The reason I gave service a 3 is because front desk was great and deserves a 5, but we had no housekeeping while we were there. The location was great. We're about 5 minutes from the zoo. About 10 minutes from the village which is downtown.
Dec 01, 2024 · Dan GreeneFor skiers this is the location. 3 queen beds. Small livingroom/kitchenette/dining. Tiny bathroom. But when skiing one looks forward to a great bed. These have them.
Mar 12, 2025 · Doug RauchCabins have been renovated and are very nice and comfortable. The area is beautiful and peaceful. Location is great within driving distance of the town.
Dec 16, 2024 · Jan Paul SanchezThe worst trip ever. I understand that big bear is more known for winter but we came up to visit in July. What place has no ac, and only heat with only 1 ceiling fan in the whole cabin with giant windows that do not even open! That was awful! They do not clean very well because whoever stayed in the cabin before us left food in the cabinets. Also tons of dead bugs on the floor, and on the night stand. I would not say its very kid friendly with how large the gaps on the stairs are, there was no hiking trails that allowed strollers walking distance from the facility. I 100% would never stay there again and would not recommend a stay to any friends or family regardless of what time of year it is.
