Meadow Group Campground Introduce
Are you searching for an expansive campground near your location that can comfortably accommodate a large group? Look no further than Meadow Group Campground, nestled within the scenic Angeles National Forest near Palmdale, California. As a featured listing on the "Camping Near Me" platform, Meadow Group Campground offers a unique opportunity to escape the hustle and bustle of city life and immerse yourselves in a tranquil natural setting. While it may not boast extensive hiking trails or immediate access to streams or ponds, its primary appeal lies in providing a spacious and private environment for large gatherings to reconnect and unwind.
Located at Forest Service 3N21 Mt Hillyer Rd, Palmdale, CA 93550, USA, Meadow Group Campground presents a serene retreat for those seeking a break from technology and the demands of modern life. You can reach them at (818) 899-1900 or +1 818-899-1900 for inquiries and reservations. Keep in mind that advance booking is highly recommended, especially for large groups and during peak seasons.
Based on feedback from fellow campers, the environment at Meadow Group Campground is characterized by its seclusion and suitability for big groups. It’s described as "a place to get away and unplug," emphasizing its role as a destination for those prioritizing group bonding and a digital detox. The natural surroundings offer a sense of peace and privacy, allowing your group to enjoy quality time together without the distractions of everyday life. While the immediate vicinity may not be known for extensive trail systems or water features, the broader Angeles National Forest offers numerous opportunities for outdoor exploration a short drive away.
In terms of services and features, Meadow Group Campground is equipped to handle large groups, suggesting amenities such as multiple campsites within a designated area, communal facilities like picnic tables and fire rings, and potentially restroom facilities. Specific details about amenities should be confirmed when making your reservation. It's important to note that based on user reviews, the focus here is more on providing a group-oriented space rather than extensive recreational amenities within the campground itself.
A crucial piece of information highlighted by previous visitors is the significant lack of cell phone service in the area. One reviewer explicitly warns that there is "absolutely no cell service out there until you are almost back in Glendale," underscoring the importance of being prepared and self-sufficient during your stay. This absence of connectivity reinforces the "unplug" aspect but also necessitates careful planning for navigation and emergencies.
Speaking of navigation, a critical advisory concerns the accuracy of online mapping services. A reviewer strongly cautions against following Google Maps directions, which reportedly lead to a "closed service road (Loomis Ranch Road) full of rock slides, fallen trees and cliffs." This route is described as "VERY DANGEROUS" with no turnaround points and no way to call for help due to the lack of cell service. To ensure a safe and efficient journey, it is highly recommended to disregard Google Maps' suggested route and instead "turn at the Chilao Campground entrance," which is also reported to save approximately 35 minutes of driving time. This detour is vital for avoiding potentially hazardous road conditions.
Therefore, when planning your group camping trip to Meadow Group Campground, please prioritize the following:
- Confirm the specific amenities and capacity of the campground when making your reservation by calling (818) 899-1900 or +1 818-899-1900.
- Be aware that cell phone service is extremely limited to non-existent within and around the campground. Plan accordingly for communication and emergencies.
- Absolutely avoid following Google Maps directions to Loomis Ranch Road. Instead, navigate to the Chilao Campground entrance and proceed from there. This alternative route is safer and more efficient.
- Prepare for a secluded environment focused on group activities and relaxation rather than immediate access to extensive hiking trails or water features within the campground.
- Bring all necessary supplies, including navigation tools (maps, compass), emergency equipment, and everything your group will need for a comfortable and self-sufficient camping experience.
Meadow Group Campground, while perhaps not offering the traditional amenities of some other campgrounds, provides a valuable service for local users seeking a private and spacious location for large group camping. Its appeal lies in its ability to accommodate bigger parties looking to disconnect from technology and enjoy each other's company in a natural setting. By being aware of the limited cell service and the crucial navigation advice, you can ensure a safe and enjoyable experience at this unique campground near you. Take advantage of this opportunity to gather your friends or family for a memorable outdoor getaway in the Angeles National Forest.

Meadow Group Campground Reviews
Great for a big group, but not much in the way of hiking trails or streams/ponds. Kinda just a place to get away and unplug for a big group.
Jul 27, 2024 · Jason GarciaThe campground itself is fine. The combo to the gate was confusing. There is absolutely no cell service out there until you are almost back in Glendale so you can't call for help. BEWARE the google maps directions send you to a closed service road (Loomis Ranch Road) full of rock slides, fallen trees and cliffs. Once you turn onto the road, there is nowhere to turn around and no way to call for help. Instead, you should turn at the Chilao Campground entrance, which also saves you about 35 mins of driving. The directions google gives are VERY DANGEROUS.
Apr 14, 2022 · Carly SerticBeautiful group campground near the top of the area. Remote enough so there is no cell phone coverage and limited water, but there are toilets and good parking. We have used it twice now for large group camping with 40+ attending. Spaces for the whole group crowd around a fire or lay out grills to serve pancakes and sausage to the whole group.
Jul 11, 2018 · Lance WoolleyBeautiful but closed.
Feb 20, 2025 · JLWe got trapped on site because the gate got locked behind us when we went in. The combo provided didn’t work. We got out eventually but it was an awful situation.
