FamCamp Introduce
For individuals searching for "camping near me" in the Clinton, Maryland area, FamCamp, situated at 4520 Wheeling Rd, is a listing that appears. Based on recent customer reviews, it is crucial for potential local users to be aware of significant concerns regarding the condition of the campground and the conduct of the Outdoor Rec office staff before considering a stay.
The environment of FamCamp, as described by recent visitors, appears to be significantly neglected. Multiple reviewers highlight the issue of overgrown grass, with one stating that it is "literally over a foot tall or more in areas everywhere." This suggests a lack of regular maintenance and upkeep of the grounds. Additionally, the presence of "standing water all around the pad" indicates potential drainage problems and could lead to uncomfortable or unsanitary conditions. These descriptions paint a picture of an environment that is far from well-maintained and could detract significantly from a positive "camping near me" experience.
The services and features at FamCamp are not detailed in a positive light by the available reviews. One reviewer mentioned a "picnic table falling apart," indicating that the basic amenities at the campsites may be in disrepair. Furthermore, there was a report of "water being shut off without notification," which is a significant inconvenience for campers relying on water hookups. These issues suggest potential shortcomings in the provision and maintenance of essential services at the campground. Potential local users seeking "camping near me" with reliable amenities should take these reports into serious consideration.
A major point of concern raised in the reviews pertains to the staff at the Outdoor Rec office associated with FamCamp. One reviewer who has stayed at numerous military campgrounds stated that the staff encountered at FamCamp were "by far the most run down, over grown and rudest" they had experienced. This is a strong indictment of the customer service provided. The reviewer further described the staff as "very passive aggressive when asked basic questions," which would undoubtedly lead to a negative interaction for campers seeking assistance or information. The specific example provided, where a polite inquiry about the overgrown grass was met with a seemingly dismissive and unhelpful response ("Sir, it’s been raining. We can’t cut the grass in the rain," despite the grass appearing to have been uncut for a very long time), further illustrates the poor attitude and lack of professionalism reported by at least one visitor. For local users prioritizing courteous and helpful service during their "camping near me" stay, the feedback regarding the staff at FamCamp is a significant red flag.
Another significant drawback mentioned in one of the reviews is that FamCamp is "extremely noisy due to road next to camp ground." Noise pollution can severely impact the tranquility and enjoyment of a camping trip. If the campground is situated very close to a busy road, the constant traffic noise could be disruptive, especially during sleeping hours. Local users seeking a peaceful and quiet "camping near me" experience should be aware of this potential noise issue at FamCamp.
The overall sentiment expressed in the reviews is overwhelmingly negative. One reviewer explicitly states, "This campground is a disgrace," while another describes the place as "low awful." These strong condemnations highlight the deep dissatisfaction of recent visitors with the conditions and management of FamCamp. The statement that FamCamp is "Not up to military standards!" is particularly concerning, as military campgrounds are often expected to be well-maintained and efficiently run for the benefit of service members and their families.
Given the severely negative feedback regarding the overgrown grounds, disrepair of amenities, unreliable services, rude and unhelpful staff, and significant noise pollution, it is difficult to recommend FamCamp as a desirable option for "camping near me" in the Clinton, MD area based solely on this information. Potential local users should be extremely cautious and consider these serious issues before making a reservation. It would be prudent to seek alternative campgrounds in the vicinity that have received more positive and recent reviews regarding their upkeep and service quality.
There is no promotional information available for FamCamp in the provided reviews. Given the negative feedback concerning the basic maintenance and service levels, it is unlikely that there are any appealing promotions being offered. Local users seeking "camping near me" with good value and positive experiences would likely find better deals and a more satisfactory stay at other campgrounds in the region that prioritize cleanliness, maintenance, and customer service.
In conclusion, the recent customer reviews for FamCamp in Clinton, MD, paint a concerning picture of a poorly maintained campground with rude and unhelpful staff. Issues such as overgrown grass, dilapidated amenities, unreliable water service, and significant road noise have been reported. These negative experiences strongly suggest that local users searching for "camping near me" in the Clinton area should exercise extreme caution when considering FamCamp and should likely explore alternative options that offer a higher standard of cleanliness, maintenance, service, and overall camping experience. The severely negative feedback indicates that FamCamp may not provide the enjoyable and relaxing "camping near me" getaway that local users are seeking.

FamCamp Reviews
We have stayed at numerous military campgrounds and this BY FAR is the most run down, over grown and rudest Outdoor Rec office staff we have encountered. The grass is literally over a foot tall or more in areas everywhere. Picnic table falling apart, water being shut off without notification, staff in office very passive aggressive when asked basic questions. When checking in, I very politely asked when the grass would be cut and response was “Sir, it’s been raining. We can’t cut the grass in the rain.” By the length of the grass, it has not been cut in an VERY long time! Extremely noisy due to road next to camp ground. This campground is a disgrace.
May 16, 2024 · Keith NealThis place is low awful, grass not cut, standing water all around the pad, and the pot holes are everywhere. Not up to military standards!
Apr 01, 2025 · Ben CahnRV spots are concrete pads, area is spacious, FHU was $45. Many empty spots. Two washers($1.50) and two dryers($1). All of them worked well. Kids enjoyed doing a puzzle and playing with a mousetrap boardgame thats available in TV lounge. However the TV lounge has a lot of cobweb and dust. Pool table had no balls and covered in spiderwebs. Water heater in laundry room is spilling water. Toilets and showers were disgusting. There was trash on our site. Huge garbage bag in fire pit and grass growing in another. Water was leaking from the spigot in the empty campsite next to us. Campground is not taken care of.
Nov 01, 2022 · La Familia HenryUpon arrival the park seems overgrown and outdated. There are clear signs and directives posted. The sites are overgrown and not well maintained. Outside of the concrete pad the sites are overgrown and not campchair friendly even around the sites fire pits. The area is dog friendly however the dog park is very small and mostly accommodating to smaller dogs. The general bathrooms and laundry rooms have spiders. The perks of the camping area is its closeness to the base and surrounding areas. There are no kids playgrounds located in the area.
May 02, 2024 · Patti BarmanI like the concrete pad... thats the highlight of this place. Restrooms are gross and outdated. Laundry room is dirty, gross and outdated. Getting to try and check in is ridiculous. For $45 a night I expected better.
