Pelican Nest RV Resort & Campground Introduce
Looking for "camping near me" on Dauphin Island, Alabama? Pelican Nest RV Resort & Campground, located at 1510 Bienville Blvd, Dauphin Island, AL 36528, USA, offers a camping experience with a potentially great location but mixed reviews regarding its upkeep and management. You can contact them at (251) 861-2338 or +1 251-861-2338 for more information and reservations. Based on recent customer feedback, it's important for local users to be aware of both the positive and negative aspects of this campground.
One reviewer mentioned that the "location is great," which is a significant advantage, especially for a campground on a sought-after destination like Dauphin Island. This suggests that Pelican Nest RV Resort & Campground might offer convenient access to local attractions, the coastline, or other features that make Dauphin Island appealing to visitors. However, this positive aspect was contrasted with concerns about the maintenance of the grounds. The reviewer noted that "they don’t keep the grounds up," specifically mentioning the prevalence of "sand spurs everywhere and thorns on bushes." This lack of upkeep led them to leave, although they intended to return. Unfortunately, they reported being charged twice instead of receiving a refund.
This same reviewer praised the "lady in the office" for trying to be helpful but described the "man/grandson" as rude. They expressed a desire to stay at the resort but highlighted that "so much needs to be improved" and that issues that "aren’t difficult to improve yet aren’t being addressed." Ultimately, this negative experience led them to conclude that they would not stay there again, recommending an alternative nearby: Homestead RV Community, which they found to be "very professional and competent." This detailed feedback suggests that while the location of Pelican Nest RV Resort & Campground might be desirable, potential visitors should be aware of potential issues with ground maintenance and customer service.
Another reviewer offered a more balanced perspective, describing the place as "small but nice." They noted the presence of a "little pool" and a "little store," which could be convenient amenities for campers. They also found the staff to be "nice" but pointed out that it's a "very far walk to beach." This is an important consideration for those whose primary reason for camping on Dauphin Island is beach access. Despite the distance to the beach, this reviewer mentioned having "good times" there.
This second review also mentioned taking the ferry to Gulf Shores, noting the cost ($27 up, $15 back) and visiting a "nice lil museum" there. This indicates that the location of Pelican Nest RV Resort & Campground allows for exploring other nearby areas of interest, although it requires a ferry ride. The reviewer also described the campground itself as "quiet n pleasant," which could be appealing to those looking for a more relaxed and peaceful camping experience.
For local users searching for "camping near me" on Dauphin Island, Pelican Nest RV Resort & Campground offers a location that at least one reviewer found to be great. It has some basic amenities like a small pool and store, and some staff members are reported to be nice. However, potential campers should be aware of the reported issues with ground maintenance (sand spurs and thorns) and the possibility of encountering rude management. Additionally, the beach is noted to be a significant walk from the campground.
If you are considering Pelican Nest RV Resort & Campground for your "camping near me" needs, you might want to weigh the convenience of the Dauphin Island location and the presence of some amenities against the reported drawbacks in grounds upkeep and customer service. If beach access is a top priority, the "far walk" could be a significant factor in your decision. The quiet and pleasant atmosphere mentioned by one reviewer might appeal to those seeking a more tranquil camping experience, and the proximity to the ferry offers the option to explore Gulf Shores.
Given the conflicting feedback, it would be prudent for local users to perhaps call Pelican Nest RV Resort & Campground directly to inquire about the current condition of the grounds, the distance to the beach, and their customer service policies. You might also want to compare it with other "camping near me" options on Dauphin Island or the surrounding area, such as the Homestead RV Community mentioned in one of the reviews, to see which best fits your preferences and needs.
In summary, Pelican Nest RV Resort & Campground on Dauphin Island offers a potentially well-located camping option with a small pool and store. However, some visitors have reported issues with ground maintenance and customer service, as well as a significant distance to the beach. Other reviewers found it to be a nice, quiet place, despite its size. For local campers looking for "camping near me" on Dauphin Island, it's advisable to consider these mixed reviews and perhaps seek more current information before making a booking.

Pelican Nest RV Resort & Campground Reviews
Location is great but they don’t keep the grounds up. Sand spurs are everywhere and thorns on bushes. We had to leave and we’re coming back. They said they would refund and instead charged us twice. The lady in the office has been trying to help but the man/grandson is rude. We truly want to stay there but so much needs to be improved and things that aren’t difficult to improve yet aren’t being addressed. No way we would stay here again after finding Homestead RV Community, a short drive but so worth it. Very professional and competent. Make the short drive and you won’t regret it.
Apr 26, 2025 · Susan JordanThis place is small but nice. Little pool little store. Nice staff but very far walk to beach. Good times though. We rode the ferry 27 dollars up 15 dollars back to go to golf shores. Nice lil museum. Quiet n pleasant
Aug 22, 2024 · katharine hallOnly visited the shop but the RV lot looked fine. Very compact and seemed like people were making friends at the little pool they have.As for the shop, it's small and doesn't have quite everything, but what they do have is very well priced. You can find items here for half as much as other shops on the island. For example, they had a crabber hat for like $16 where other shops had them for at least $25 and the quality seemed the same.Ice cream shop is okay. Got a shake and it wasn't anything special. Took a while to make too. A solid option if you want ice cream because you don't have many on the island.
Sep 04, 2022 · Matt AlvinoYou won’t find a better place to stay, right next door is a very good restaurant, I see some other people complaining about size of camp sights, I had 8 kids with me and two adults and we managed just fine. Two older boys had a tent set up and I had my 20 foot projector screen set up in front of the camper. The owners and staff were phenomenal. Ice cream, shaved ice and souvenirs were all very affordable.Swimming pool was very nice and clean. The walk to the beach is a shot from the camp ground with young kids, and wouldImagine for any older people, but jumpIn your car and go to west end it’s a 4 minute drive and you park 50 foot from the water. If you like to fish there’s a bay right across the street and it’s full of fish.Out of all the private owned camp grounds I have stay at this has been by far the best one.Absolutely great place.
Jul 21, 2023 · Logan WilliamsThis was our first time in Dauphin Island. We chose this park because they posted drive through lots. Park was small but good parking. Far walk to the beach. We was only there for one day of the 4 we had reserved because we was advised to leave because of the Hurricane coming through. We was assured we would only be charged for one day. So we left. This was in September. We have been given the run around in getting our refund back. We was promised there would be a refund in the mail which has yet to happen over a month later. Pretty sad business practice when you can't trust them to keep their word. I would not recommend this place for this reason. I will also be notifying the better business bureau of this practice.
