Southport Campground Introduce
If you're searching for "camping near me" in the Gulf Shores, Alabama area, Southport Campground, located at 108 Waterway W Blvd, Gulf Shores, AL 36542, USA, presents itself as an option. You can reach them at (251) 968-6220 or their mobile number, +1 251-968-6220, for inquiries.
Based on the available customer reviews, experiences at Southport Campground appear to be varied. One reviewer expressed significant dissatisfaction, describing the campground as "what a dump." This review highlighted several issues, including the need to bring your own toilet paper for the bathroom, lack of water pressure and hot water in the showers, hot water only in the sinks (deemed impractical for bathing), and the need for replacement of faucets and toilets. This reviewer also mentioned disappointment with an "over priced tent site with no working amenities" and stated that the clubhouse for guest use is "never open." Furthermore, they claimed that the phone is not answered for inquiries. This feedback paints a picture of potentially neglected facilities and poor customer service.
Conversely, another reviewer had a much more positive experience, arguing that "Southport is arguably the best campground to stay at." This reviewer praised Sandy, the owner, for being "very accommodating and genuinely nice." They highlighted the convenient access to the laundromat and bathhouse, considering it a "perfect location for short or long term stays." For those interested in fishing, the presence of a dock on the canal was noted as a plus. This reviewer concluded by stating that you will not find a better location and that the price is the "best and most competitive in all of gulf shores."
Considering the category "camping near me," Southport Campground's location in Gulf Shores is indeed advantageous, particularly if you're looking for proximity to the waterfront (as suggested by "Waterway W Blvd") and potentially fishing opportunities via the canal dock. The positive review emphasizes the owner's hospitality and the convenience of certain amenities like the laundromat and bathhouse, as well as the competitive pricing.
However, the starkly negative review raises serious concerns about the functionality and cleanliness of essential facilities such as bathrooms and showers, as well as the accessibility of the clubhouse and customer service via phone. This discrepancy in experiences suggests that the quality of stay might be inconsistent or that there have been changes over time.
For local users considering Southport Campground for their "camping near me" needs, it would be prudent to weigh these contrasting opinions. The positive review points to a potentially well-located and affordable option with a helpful owner, especially for those interested in fishing and needing laundry facilities. The negative review, however, indicates potential significant shortcomings in basic amenities that could detract from a comfortable camping experience.
Given the conflicting feedback, it is difficult to provide a definitive assessment of the campground's current state without more information. Prospective campers might want to contact Southport Campground directly at the provided phone numbers to inquire about the current condition of the facilities, the operational status of the clubhouse, and the availability of hot water and water pressure in the showers. Asking specific questions based on the concerns raised in the negative review would be advisable.
If affordability and a waterfront location with fishing access are your primary concerns, and if the issues raised in the negative review have been addressed, Southport Campground might be a viable option for "camping near me" in Gulf Shores. However, it would be wise to seek current information to ensure that the basic amenities meet your expectations for a comfortable stay.
In conclusion, Southport Campground in Gulf Shores, AL, receives mixed reviews online. While one camper found it to be the best option with an accommodating owner and convenient amenities, another described it as poorly maintained with non-functional facilities. For local users looking for "camping near me," it is recommended to contact the campground directly to get the most up-to-date information on the condition of the amenities and to determine if it aligns with your camping preferences and needs.

Southport Campground Reviews
What a dump. Bring your own toilet paper for the bathroom. Not one shower stall had water pressure or hot water. The sinks got hot but who can fit in them to bathe themselves. The faucet's and toilets need replacing. Very disappointed, nothing beautiful about the over priced tent site with no working amenities and your clubhouse for guest use is never open. You can't answer the phone for inquiries. Commit100 percent or quit. Plenty of people would love to do something amazing with it. Granted your prices don't change all year and that's the way it should be. But come on get in it or move on. This is a beautiful town.
Dec 12, 2024 · Jacqueline GaiamoreSouthport is arguably the best campground to stay at. Sandy, the owner, is very accommodating and genuinely nice. With convient access to the laundromat and bath house, it is the perfect location for short or long term stays. And if you like fishing there is a dock on the canal you can fish off of. You will not find a better location and the price is the best and most competitive in all of gulf shores.
Nov 03, 2024 · TJ SullivanNot sure why the handful of poor reviews here. We stayed here for a couple of days during Mardi Gras 2024. Sandy and the rest of the people here were so genuinely kind to us the entire time. For two older female campers, we felt very safe there. I would call this more of a seasonal campground but it was reasonably priced, a great location to watch the sunset and surprisingly, the bridge traffic wasn't bad at all. And Im a light sleeper. Its not fancy but i would definitely recommend this place.

Apr 13, 2025 · Clayton MaronaWe love it here. Our camper stays here year round. 6 months out and 6 months in storage. This place is run by some amazing people.
