Shady Acres Campground Introduce
For local adventurers seeking "camping near me" in the Mobile, Alabama area, Shady Acres Campground presents a camping option with a unique history. Located at 2500 Old Military Rd, Mobile, AL 36605, USA, Shady Acres can be contacted at (251) 478-0013 or +1 251-478-0013 for inquiries and reservations. It's important for potential visitors to be aware that recent feedback suggests a somewhat different experience than a typical RV resort.
One recent visitor, passing through in January, described the campground as "derelict," noting that the "nature trail" was "completely overgrown." This paints a picture of potentially neglected common areas. The same reviewer also shared a negative experience with their assigned site, stating, "We were given site 19, which is not on the map. It took us a while in the dark to find that our spot was a muddy patch at the entrance." This suggests potential issues with site management, mapping accuracy, and the condition of some camping spots, particularly during certain weather conditions.
Furthermore, this reviewer expressed significant dissatisfaction with the value, stating, "For $50/night, this place was a joke. I wouldn't attempt to use the common restroom unless I wore a biohazard suit." This strong statement raises serious concerns about the cleanliness and upkeep of the communal restroom facilities, which is a crucial aspect of any campground experience.
In contrast, another recent visitor offered a more balanced perspective, mentioning, "Place isn't to bad, it was a former mobile home park. There are lots of seasonal folks and people working . Site size varies drastically. Bath house needs an up date. Full hook ups with cable, everyone one is nice , if you're expecting a RV resort feel it's probably not for you . We were only there two nights as the reason for the stay was to visit the USS Alabama, we would stay again."
This review highlights several key features of Shady Acres Campground. The fact that it was a former mobile home park explains the presence of "lots of seasonal folks and people working," which could contribute to a sense of community for longer-term visitors. The reviewer also points out that "site size varies drastically," meaning potential campers should inquire about specific site dimensions to ensure they can comfortably accommodate their RV or camping setup.
A significant advantage mentioned is "full hook ups with cable." Full hookups typically include water, sewer, and electrical connections, which are highly desirable for RV travelers. The inclusion of cable TV adds an extra amenity for those looking for entertainment during their stay.
The reviewer corroborates the previous concern about the facilities, noting that the "bath house needs an up date." This reinforces the need for potential campers to be aware of the condition of these amenities. However, they also positively noted that "everyone one is nice," suggesting a friendly and welcoming atmosphere among the residents and staff.
This more balanced review also provides important context for the type of experience to expect, advising, "if you're expecting a RV resort feel it's probably not for you." This sets realistic expectations, indicating that Shady Acres Campground offers a more basic and perhaps less polished camping experience compared to a dedicated luxury RV resort.
The reviewer's reason for staying – to visit the USS Alabama – highlights a potential local attraction that makes Shady Acres a convenient lodging option. The fact that they "would stay again" suggests that despite its shortcomings, the campground offers sufficient value or convenience for certain types of travelers, particularly those prioritizing full hookups and a friendly environment over pristine facilities and manicured grounds.
Based on these recent reviews, Shady Acres Campground offers a mixed experience for those seeking "camping near me" in Mobile, AL. Key features and considerations include:
- Full Hookups: Many sites appear to offer water, sewer, and electrical connections, which is a significant benefit for RVers.
- Cable TV: An additional amenity provided at the campsites.
- Friendly Atmosphere: The presence of seasonal residents and working individuals contributes to a potentially welcoming community.
- Variable Site Sizes: Campers should inquire about specific site dimensions to ensure a comfortable fit.
- Outdated Facilities: The bathhouse is noted as needing updates, and cleanliness may be a concern.
- Overgrown Areas: The nature trail is reported to be completely overgrown, suggesting a lack of maintenance in some common areas.
- Potentially Poor Site Conditions: At least one site was described as a muddy patch, and site mapping may be inaccurate.
- Value Concerns: One reviewer felt the $50/night price was not justified given the condition of the campground.
- Convenient Location: Its proximity to attractions like the USS Alabama may be a draw for some visitors.
Currently, no specific promotional information is available in the provided text. However, for local users searching for "camping near me" who prioritize full hookups and a potentially friendly, albeit basic, camping environment, Shady Acres Campground in Mobile, AL, is an option to consider. Given the mixed reviews regarding the condition of the facilities and grounds, it is strongly recommended that potential campers contact Shady Acres Campground directly at (251) 478-0013 or +1 251-478-0013 to inquire about current site availability, specific site conditions, and the status of any facility updates. Asking for recent photos of campsites and common areas might also be beneficial in making an informed decision. While it may not offer the amenities and polish of a modern RV resort, Shady Acres could serve as a functional base for exploring the local area for certain types of campers.

Feb 26, 2025 · Russ NicholsHad a great stay. Booked online no issues, no hassles. The overnight spots are all pull thrus with electric, water and sewer. We booked online and learned the office is closed on the weekends so no check in needed. Shady on the acres is accurate because there are trees. The acorns hitting our roof at night sound like gunfire. But NO complaints. Love it and will be back.
Jan 06, 2025 · Juli GaristoHusband and I moved here from Kentucky about 5 months ago and we love it here. It’s peaceful and quiet and everyone here is so nice. Only downside is fall is we were told we would have cable but we’ve been here 5 months and the cable has never worked. We just purchased an antenna because no matter how many times we ask for it to be fixed it never has. We were Also under the impression we would be able to go back to the water and the dock in the back but come to find out it was no longer apart of the campground which honestly kinda blows. It’s definitely not a resort but for the price and convenience to downtown Mobile it’s pretty nice :)
Oct 23, 2024 · Roxanne ShelbyYin and Yang. Light and dark. Chocolate and vanilla. Shady* Acres Campground and where we stayed last night. (*Shady everywhere except Slip 20, where we are unless we put out our awning, open an umbrella or throw ourselves under our bus)Nope, no shade here, except what I’m about to throw out on this place! Actually, as you can see in the pix, there’s lots of shade in the back 40 however these all appear to being term slips with the front couple of slips for one night stands.Fairly level and long gravel slips (easily accommodated our 55+ foot parade with room to spare). Full hookups including a rusty CATV wire that provided static on every channel found. 3-4 bars and the ubiquitous AT&T “5G” label which has provided steady steaming of TV (too lazy to deploy Dishy for one night stands) as well as 🏄.Given what we have seen from walking around, and the exterior of the office, we felt the laundry and bathrooms were better left unseen. Office was closed at 4 when we arrived so we don’t know about the internet-it looked like they have it but the reservation slip taped to the office door for us only had a bathroom code, no internet password. I think we paid $45, and it is supposedly a Good Sam site. We chose it because it was the only place with pull-thru sites in the Mobile area that had availability. I gave it a 3.5 out of 5.
