Mill Falls Campground Introduce
For local users in Montana and those near Choteau seeking a memorable "camping near me" experience, Mill Falls Campground offers a picturesque and rustic option. Located in Choteau, MT 59422, USA, this campground has garnered positive attention for its stunning natural environment and convenient location for those visiting Glacier National Park. However, it's essential for potential campers to be aware of the specific amenities and limitations of this site to ensure a comfortable and enjoyable stay.
One of the most compelling aspects of Mill Falls Campground is its scenic beauty. According to visitor reviews, the views encountered while approaching the campground are described as "incredible," setting a positive tone for the overall experience. The campground itself boasts some particularly desirable spots, with one reviewer highlighting a "great spot at the end with a stream just yards away." The allure of camping so close to a natural water source, the gentle sounds of a stream, and the potential for wildlife viewing can greatly enhance the camping experience.
The environment around Mill Falls Campground is characterized by a thick forest, providing ample shade for the campsites. This natural canopy can be particularly welcome during warmer months, offering a cool and comfortable retreat. The presence of cement or permanent picnic tables at the sites is also a notable feature, providing a stable and convenient surface for meals and other activities. These sturdy picnic tables add a touch of permanence and functionality to the otherwise rustic setting.
In terms of services and amenities, Mill Falls Campground offers a more basic camping experience. The reviews indicate the presence of "pit toilets" which are reported to be "well maintained." While pit toilets are a common amenity in more rustic campgrounds, the fact that they are kept in good condition is a significant plus. However, it's important to note that there is "no running water" available at the campground. This means campers will need to bring their own water supply for drinking, cooking, and personal hygiene. For those planning longer stays or requiring substantial amounts of water, this is a crucial factor to consider.
For those interested in exploring the local area, Mill Falls Campground offers proximity to a natural attraction: the falls themselves. One review mentions that "the walk to the falls is unmarked, but is at the end of the road to your right." This suggests that while the waterfall is a point of interest for campers, the trail leading to it is not formally marked. Adventurous campers may find this an opportunity for a bit of exploration, but it also implies that caution and awareness of the surroundings are necessary when trying to find the path. The fact that the falls are within walking distance from the campground adds to its appeal for nature lovers.
An important consideration for those planning to camp at Mill Falls Campground is the suitability for different types of camping vehicles. The reviews clearly state that "many spots won't fit a camper, none will fit a large camper." This limitation on the size of vehicles that can be accommodated is crucial information for potential visitors. Campers with larger RVs or trailers will likely find this campground unsuitable. Even those with smaller campers or pop-up trailers should be aware that maneuvering within the campground, particularly "turning around with a large trailer at the end of the road," is described as "nearly impossible." This suggests that the layout of the campground and the narrowness of the roads may pose challenges for larger vehicles.
The campground's location also makes it a convenient stop for those planning a visit to Glacier National Park (GNP). One reviewer mentioned camping at Mill Falls "the night before we went to GNP," highlighting its strategic location for travelers heading to or from the national park. This proximity can be a significant advantage, offering a more secluded and potentially less crowded camping option compared to campgrounds within the park itself.
While the reviews do not explicitly mention any promotional offers or specific features beyond the natural environment and basic amenities, the positive feedback regarding the scenic views, the stream-side campsites, the shaded areas, and the well-maintained pit toilets serves as an implicit recommendation for those seeking a rustic and nature-focused "camping near me" experience. The campground's proximity to Glacier National Park further enhances its appeal for tourists and locals alike planning a visit to this renowned natural landmark.
In summary, Mill Falls Campground offers a unique camping experience near Choteau, Montana, with the following key characteristics:
- Incredible Scenic Views: Enjoy stunning landscapes upon arrival.
- Stream-Side Camping Options: Some sites offer close proximity to a natural stream.
- Well-Maintained Pit Toilets: Basic but clean restroom facilities are available.
- Thickly Forested and Shaded Sites: Provides a cool and comfortable camping environment.
- Cement Picnic Tables: Offers durable and convenient eating areas.
- Proximity to Glacier National Park: A convenient stop for GNP visitors.
- Walkable (Unmarked) Trail to Mill Falls: An opportunity to explore a local waterfall.
However, potential campers should also be aware of the limitations:
- No Running Water: Campers must bring their own water supply.
- Limited Space for Campers: Not suitable for large campers or RVs.
- Difficult Turnaround for Trailers: Maneuvering larger vehicles can be challenging.
- Unmarked Trail to the Falls: Requires caution and exploration to find.
For local users seeking "camping near me" that prioritizes natural beauty and a more rustic experience, and who are traveling with smaller camping setups, Mill Falls Campground could be an excellent choice. Its proximity to Glacier National Park also makes it a valuable option for those planning to explore this natural wonder while enjoying a quieter, more secluded camping environment.

Mill Falls Campground Reviews
We camped here the night before we went to GNP and this was such an incredible spot. The views coming in were incredible. We found a great spot at the end with a stream just yards away. There are pit toilets available that are well maintained.
Sep 13, 2023 · Derek AndersonGreat little campground. Many spots won't fit a camper, none will fit a large camper. The walk to the falls is unmarked, but is at the end of the road to your right. There is a single outhouse-style pit toilet and no running water. The creek is shallow, but can be used to get water for filtering. The forest there is thick and the sites are very well shaded. There are cement/permanent picnic tables. Turning around with a large trailer at the end of the road is nearly impossible and watched many people struggle with even pop-ups.
Sep 08, 2022 · John SheetsNot many spots to camp, but short a hike will take you to the bottom, a bit further will put you at the top, and more trail to go.
Sep 03, 2023 · Wade FusonBeautiful spot. Was quiet and clean. Had a doe visit us each evening which was unexpected. Bathrooms and picnic areas were well maintained. Close to trailhead for Our lake, which was stunning
Jul 11, 2023 · jake vineyardSecluded campground with a few sites. There's a gorgeous waterfall about 3 min away (trail leaves from last campsite on right). Sites are pretty small except for last one on left which could hold many tents.
