Miller Riverview Park Introduce
For local users in and around Dubuque, Iowa, searching for "camping near me" reveals a noteworthy option: Miller Riverview Park, situated at 1851 Admiral Sheehy Dr, Dubuque, IA 52001, USA. This state-owned campground offers a unique camping experience along the majestic Mississippi River. You can contact them at (563) 599-2852 or +1 563-599-2852 for inquiries and reservations. Based on recent customer reviews, here's a detailed look at what Miller Riverview Park has to offer.
Miller Riverview Park boasts a prime location along the Mississippi River, providing campers with picturesque waterfront views and a tranquil atmosphere, particularly on the west side of the campground. The environment offers:
- Riverfront Access: The campground's east side directly borders the Mississippi River, allowing for potential river viewing and the sight of boats passing by. The west side, as mentioned by a reviewer, offers a more secluded experience with the river as a backdrop, especially stunning during the fall foliage season.
- Expansive Campsites: Reviewers highlight the "large area with level sites" and "very expansive campsites," suggesting ample space for various camping setups, from tents to larger RVs (though some initial site assignments might require adjustment for very long vehicles).
- Natural Beauty: The changing leaves in October create a particularly "stunning" environment, making it an ideal time for a scenic camping trip. The presence of trees throughout the campground adds to the natural appeal.
- Wildlife Potential: Being located along a major river corridor, there's a possibility of observing local wildlife in and around the campground.
Based on the customer reviews, Miller Riverview Park provides a range of services and amenities, although some limitations are noted:
- Electric-Only Sites: It's important to note that the campsites are "electric only." This means that while you'll have access to electricity, water and sewer hookups at individual sites are not mentioned. However, there is an "area for filling your water tank if needed," which is a valuable service for RV campers.
- Water Tank Filling Area: This dedicated area allows RVers to fill their fresh water tanks upon arrival, compensating for the lack of individual site water hookups.
- Bathhouse: The campground features a "really nice and really cute" bathhouse, indicating clean and well-maintained restroom and shower facilities for campers.
- Pet-Friendly Policy: The campground is "dog friendly," making it a suitable option for campers traveling with their furry companions. However, as mentioned in a review, it's important for pet owners to be responsible for cleaning up after their dogs.
- Online Reservations: The ability to book reservations online offers convenience for planning your camping trip in advance.
- Playground: A "really cute ship shaped playground set" is available, providing a fun recreational area for children.
Miller Riverview Park offers several features that make it a distinct camping destination:
- Riverfront Location: The direct access to the Mississippi River and the scenic views it provides are a major draw. The contrast between the potentially quieter west side and the river-adjacent east side offers different camping experiences within the same park.
- Spacious Sites: The large and level campsites can accommodate a variety of camping equipment and offer more room for campers to spread out.
- Pet-Friendly Environment: Welcoming dogs makes it a popular choice for pet owners looking to enjoy the outdoors with their animals.
- Quiet Atmosphere: The campground management "like it quiet here," with "several rules deal with just being quiet." This focus on maintaining a peaceful environment can be appealing to those seeking a relaxing getaway.
- Proximity to Attractions: Despite its natural setting, the campground is conveniently located near the "fancy casino" (a quarter-mile away on the other side of the trees) and "places to eat nearby" in Dubuque, offering a blend of outdoor recreation and access to urban amenities.
It's important to also consider some of the points raised in the customer reviews:
- Road Construction: One reviewer noted significant "road work getting to campground." Local users should be aware of potential construction and possible delays when planning their visit. It might be advisable to check local traffic updates before traveling.
- Website Accuracy: There was an issue with the website not accurately reflecting the site lengths, which caused inconvenience for a camper with a large RV. It's recommended to confirm site dimensions directly with the campground when booking, especially if you have a larger vehicle.
- Trash in Tent Areas: A concerning observation was "a lot of trash in trees where tent sites are," including items like a mattress, fast food wrappers, and dog waste. This suggests a potential need for improved maintenance and adherence toLeave No Trace principles by all campers. Local users should be mindful of keeping their campsites and the surrounding areas clean.
- Electric-Only Hookups: Campers needing full hookups (water and sewer) at their individual sites will need to consider the limitations of electric-only service and utilize the available water tank filling area and potentially other off-site dumping stations.
- Road and Train Noise: While one reviewer mentioned that the "little bit of road noise from the highway going over the bridge" and occasional trains "didn’t bother us," light sleepers might want to consider this when choosing a campsite within the park.
While specific promotional offers are not mentioned in the provided information, the unique features and positive aspects highlighted by reviewers offer compelling reasons to choose Miller Riverview Park for your "camping near me" experience in the Dubuque area:
- Scenic Riverfront Camping: Enjoy the beauty and tranquility of camping along the Mississippi River.
- Spacious and Level Sites: Benefit from comfortable and roomy campsites suitable for various camping setups.
- Pet-Friendly Welcome: Bring your furry friends along to enjoy the outdoor adventure.
- Quiet and Relaxing Atmosphere: Experience a peaceful camping environment with an emphasis on quiet enjoyment.
- Convenient Location: Enjoy the natural setting while still having easy access to Dubuque's amenities, including dining and entertainment options like the nearby casino.
- Essential Amenities: Access clean bathhouse facilities and a water tank filling station for RVs. The playground provides entertainment for children.
- Stunning Fall Scenery: October is highlighted as a particularly beautiful time to visit, with the changing leaves creating a picturesque backdrop.
To ensure a smooth and enjoyable trip, local users are advised to contact Miller Riverview Park directly at (563) 599-2852 or +1 563-599-2852 to inquire about current road conditions, confirm campsite suitability for their equipment, and ask about any specific park rules or recommendations. Despite some noted drawbacks, the park's scenic location, spacious sites, and pet-friendly policy make it a worthwhile option for those seeking "camping near me" in Dubuque, Iowa. Remember to pack responsibly and help maintain the park's natural beauty by properly disposing of all waste.

Miller Riverview Park Reviews
A lot of road work getting to campground. Large area with level sites. Dog friendly. Booked reservation online. Site was not long enough for a 43’ 5th wheel. I called campground and the gentleman said the website needs to have changes. State owned. He was able to move us into a larger site and was polite. Would definitely stay here again when road construction to campground is completed. A lot of trash in trees where tent sites are. Mattress, fast food wrappers, and dog doo. Sites are electric only. They did have area for filling your water tank if needed.
Nov 10, 2024 · JR SlavenskiOctober here at this campground is just stunning. The boats going by, river in the leaves changing the back/West side of the campground isolated from all the noise of Dubuque. The east side is the Mississippi river. There are a few 200 foot pull throughs. The rest are very expansive campsites. A little bit of road noise from the highway going over the bridge. And a couple of trains didn’t bother us in a bit pet friendly there is a bathhouse that is really nice and really cute ship shaped playground set. They like it quiet here several rules deal with just being quiet fancy casino is quarter-mile on the other side of the trees places to eat nearby.
Oct 18, 2024 · Stephanie ChinNice looking campgrounds right along the river shore . Plenty of scenery and beautiful walking trails.
Apr 26, 2025 · Jacob SwansonBeautifully situated right on the Mississippi River, I experienced a beautiful Sunrise, & a boat parade. The sites are super affordable with restrooms and showers, Boat/Kayak Loading dock about 1/2 mile away ( I went Kayaking) I really enjoyed my stay here.
Feb 06, 2024 · Curious TravelerThe view of the Mississippi River is beautiful. My kids had fun on the pirate ship play area.Cons-the locals come through late at night, the bathroom and showers were very dirty when we stayed (1 night on Monday), the showers are not protected by a locking door, the set up of the dump station was poorly thought out (you can't fill up with fresh water while your dumping your unit).Pros- It was $20 a night, had a play area for kids, grassy camp sites.
