Swiss Valley Campground Introduce
For those in the Dubuque, Iowa area, or those searching the "camping near me" category for an affordable and conveniently located campground, Swiss Valley Campground, situated at 9483 Whitetop Rd, Dubuque, IA 52003, USA, presents a practical option for both tent and RV campers. Based on recent customer reviews, this campground offers clean facilities, a safe environment for children, and a location just a short drive from the amenities of Dubuque, making it a suitable choice for overnight stays and potentially longer visits.
When considering "camping near me," price and location are often key factors, and Swiss Valley Campground appears to be favorably reviewed in both aspects. One long-term tent camper noted that it's "the right price and a perfect location as we travel," suggesting that the campground offers a good value for the cost and is easily accessible for those passing through the area. Its proximity to Dubuque, mentioned as "just a few minutes outside of Dubuque" by another reviewer, adds to its convenience, providing easy access to city amenities, attractions, and services while still offering a camping environment.
The environment of Swiss Valley Campground seems to cater to different camping styles. The tent area is specifically mentioned as having "many...trees... are hammock friendly," which is a significant plus for those who enjoy relaxing in a hammock. This suggests a somewhat wooded area providing shade and suitable anchor points for hammocks. However, one recurring environmental concern for tent campers is that "the tent area does not drain well when it rains," leading to muddy conditions. While one camper reported staying dry despite the rain, the potential for a muddy campsite is something tent campers should be aware of, particularly during periods of wet weather.
In terms of services and features, Swiss Valley Campground receives positive feedback for its cleanliness. Multiple reviewers specifically mentioned the cleanliness of the facilities, with one stating, "Very clean and affordable campgrounds! The showers and restrooms were clean and plenty of space." This is a crucial aspect for any campground, ensuring a comfortable and hygienic experience for guests. The availability of showers and restrooms with ample space is also a notable convenience.
For families with children searching for "camping near me," Swiss Valley Campground offers a "safe turnabout for the kids to ride their bikes and scooters." This feature provides a designated and secure area for children to enjoy these activities, enhancing the family-friendly appeal of the campground and giving parents peace of mind. The presence of a playground is not explicitly mentioned, but the safe riding area suggests an awareness of the needs of families with young children.
For RV campers, Swiss Valley Campground provides the practical amenity of "Sewer dumping...on site before you leave the grounds!" This is a significant convenience for RV travelers, allowing for easy and proper disposal of wastewater before departing, eliminating the need to find a separate dump station elsewhere.
One reviewer also noted the availability of a "pit toilet...year round" in the tent area, which is a basic but essential facility, particularly for those camping outside of the main season when other facilities might be limited or closed. The fact that it is "kept clean" is also a positive indicator of the campground's maintenance efforts.
Promotional information is not explicitly stated in the provided reviews. However, the recurring themes of affordability ("right price," "affordable campgrounds") and cleanliness ("kept clean," "very clean") serve as strong implicit promotions for budget-conscious campers who prioritize hygiene. The convenient location near Dubuque and the specific features like the safe riding area for kids and the on-site sewer dumping for RVs also add to its appeal for different types of travelers searching for "camping near me." To inquire about specific rates, availability, seasonal information, and any potential discounts, it is recommended to contact Swiss Valley Campground directly by phone at (563) 556-6745 or +1 563-556-6745.
While the reviews are generally positive, tent campers should be mindful of the potential for muddy conditions in the tent area during and after rain. However, the presence of hammock-friendly trees might offset this for some. Overall, Swiss Valley Campground appears to be a well-maintained and reasonably priced option for those seeking "camping near me" near Dubuque, Iowa, offering clean facilities, a safe environment for children's activities, and practical amenities for both tent and RV campers.
In conclusion, if you are looking for an affordable and clean "camping near me" option close to Dubuque, Iowa, Swiss Valley Campground is worth considering. Tent campers will appreciate the hammock-friendly trees and year-round pit toilet, though should be prepared for potential mud after rain. RV campers will find the on-site sewer dumping particularly convenient. Families will value the safe area for children to ride bikes and scooters. For the best information on rates and availability, contact Swiss Valley Campground directly. It seems to offer a practical and pleasant camping experience for a variety of needs.

Swiss Valley Campground Reviews
I've camped in the tent area quite a few times through the years. It's the right price and a perfect location as we travel. The pit toilet is available year round and is kept clean. Many of the trees in the tent area are hammock friendly. The only issue is that the tent area does not drain well when it rains. I happened to have rain the last couple times staying. I stayed dry, but the tent area turns pretty muddy.
Dec 28, 2024 · Bryon FreemanVery clean and affordable campgrounds! The showers and restrooms were clean and plenty of space. The safe turnabout for the kids to ride their bikes and scooters. Located just a few minutes outside of Dubuque. Sewer dumping is also on site before you leave the grounds!
Aug 05, 2024 · Lisa GraffIt's a nice campground and they sell firewood. Showers and bathroom were okay but the water had a sulfer eggy smell. Their was also a park on the other side the was nice with lots of set up for propagating native flowers.
Aug 10, 2023 · Stephanie VollmerThis well maintained county park is set in an area of large deciduous trees that provide shade and features water and electric sites and a dump station. Sites have a table and fire ring and firewood is available. A park that is connected is for day use and has several playgrounds and a trout stream. As is common with government run campgrounds the bathhouse is devoid of any aesthetic appeal. The concrete floors in the push button showers are stained rust colored, perhaps from iron in the water? The water has a strange smell. The nozzles spray irregular patterns. Most of the hooks in the shower are broken off and there is no place in the shower to put things like soap and shampoo. The playground is in the adjacent day use area. The area is beautiful and Dubuque is easily accessed.
Aug 16, 2022 · John DaleGreat family camp ground. RV and tent sites. Electric is available. 5$ for firewood, sales end at 6 pm. Sites are reasonably priced. They have showers and a playground.
