Hoot Owl Hollow Campground Introduce
For local users in the Dubuque, Iowa area searching for "camping near me," Hoot Owl Hollow Campground, located at 1650 Hoot Owl Drive, Dubuque, IA 52002, USA, presents itself as a potential option. You can contact them at (563) 580-9453 or +1 563-580-9453. Based on recent customer reviews, it appears that the campground has undergone a change in management, which has resulted in somewhat differing experiences among campers.
One positive review recounts a stay over Labor Day weekend, where the first-time campers had a "great" experience. They were able to make a last-minute reservation for a large group, and the owners were described as "very sweet." The couple managing the park, Scott and Brenda, were highlighted for their kindness, helpfulness, and accommodating nature, ensuring the group had everything they needed. The reviewer also mentioned that there were events throughout the weekend, fostering a welcoming atmosphere. The campground's amenities, such as "very convenient" showers, a clean pool, a small playground for kids, and reasonably priced firewood, were appreciated. The sense of community was also evident when Scott and other campers readily helped with a dead battery upon departure. This review paints a picture of a family-friendly campground with helpful staff and a welcoming environment, suggesting a positive experience for those looking for "camping near me" with good hospitality and amenities.
However, another, more critical review details a significantly different experience following a change in management for the 2024 season. This reviewer and their wife had been full-time seasonal campers for the previous three years under the management of a woman named Kelli, whom they described as "very, very nice" and accommodating, allowing permanent residents to personalize their spots and diligently addressing any issues. The tone of this part of the review is very positive, highlighting a well-managed and community-oriented environment under the previous leadership.
The stark contrast arises with the introduction of the new management. The reviewer recounts an incident where their covered lawn equipment, stored on a deck they had built, was ordered to be torn down and disposed of by the new owner without any prior notification, despite them being paid up until November 2024. The reviewer expresses disbelief at this action, especially given the lack of communication and the fact that their spot could hardly be considered abandoned given their payment status. Furthermore, the new owner is described as "a real bi.ch, very unprofessional and had to have everything her way." This paints a picture of a management style that is perceived as inconsiderate and authoritarian.
The reviewer indicates their intention to take legal action to recover the remaining six months of their contract, and strongly advises others to "Stay away as far as you can." They lament the loss of the friendly community they had enjoyed under the previous management, stating, "Too bad, we made some really nice friends down there." This review suggests a significant decline in the camper experience due to the new management's approach.
Considering these two contrasting reviews, local users searching for "camping near me" at Hoot Owl Hollow Campground will find a mixed picture. The positive review highlights a welcoming atmosphere, helpful staff (specifically mentioning Scott and Brenda, who may be on-site managers under the new ownership), clean amenities, and organized events. This suggests that some aspects of the campground, particularly the on-the-ground hospitality and facilities, might still be commendable.
On the other hand, the negative review raises serious concerns about the overall management style, communication with long-term campers, and respect for their property and agreements. This suggests potential instability or a negative shift in the campground's culture that could impact the experience of both short-term and long-term visitors.
For local users considering Hoot Owl Hollow Campground, it would be wise to weigh these recent experiences. The positive review from the Labor Day weekend of an unspecified year suggests that enjoyable short-term stays are still possible, with friendly on-site staff and decent amenities. However, the negative review from the 2024 season points to potential issues with the overall management and treatment of campers, particularly those with longer-term arrangements.
To get a more current understanding, local users might want to contact the campground directly and inquire about the current management policies, the status of amenities, and the general atmosphere of the campground. Asking specific questions related to the concerns raised in the negative review might provide valuable insights. For example, one could inquire about the process for handling seasonal campers or the communication protocols regarding changes affecting campers.
In conclusion, Hoot Owl Hollow Campground in Dubuque, IA, offers a location for those seeking "camping near me." Reviews indicate a potentially pleasant experience with friendly on-site staff and amenities like a pool and playground. However, a more recent review raises significant concerns about the new management's professionalism and treatment of campers. Local users should consider these contrasting viewpoints and perhaps contact the campground directly to assess if it meets their expectations for a local camping getaway.

Hoot Owl Hollow Campground Reviews
We stayed over the Labor Day weekend and it was great! First timers, we called to reserve last minute because we were having trouble finding somewhere for our big group and they didn't hesitate to find us a spot and work with us. The owner was very sweet and the couple that run things in the Park (Scott and Brenda) are so kind and helpful, also very accommodating in making sure we had everything we needed. They had events going all weekend for the campers, and everyone was so welcoming, it was a blast. The showers were very convenient, pool was clean, small playground for kids, and firewood for a good price. As we packed up to leave we had a dead battery and within minutes Scott and a couple other campers had jumper cables in hand to help us out. Thanks for the great hospitality, we had a great weekend, well definitely be back.
Sep 03, 2024 · Janessa ThillI don’t quite know how to rate my stay, but I’ll try. For the last 3 years my wife and I had a full time spot. The campground was ran and maintained by a very nice lady, Kelli. Very, very nice lady that allowed the people with permanent spots to make them a little like home. If you had issues, she worked very hard to fix whatever the problem was. Wonderful lady. Now come to the 2024 season and the campground was under new management, and all hell broke loose. I had my lawn equipment covered and stored on the deck that I built. The beginning of May, I went down to the spot to prep it for my rv. I pulled up and found someone took the tarps off my deck. Was told the campground maintainer was told by the new owner to tear everything down and hall it off to the dump. I went down on a Friday early evening and he was told to hall it away Saturday morning. Keeping in mind that I was paid up until November 2024 and not even a call, she made plans to tear everything down. She thought the spot was abandoned. Paid up until November, I couldn’t see how she thought that. She was also a real bi.ch, very unprofessional and had to have everything her way. Will have to take her to court if she doesn’t our remaining 6 months on our contract. Stay away as far as you can. Too bad, we made some really nice friends down there.
May 21, 2024 · Michael JaegerThe experience at this campground was above and beyond. Great communication with the owner and the couple (Scott and Brenda) that over see the day to day operations. Nice pool area, clean bathrooms, showers and grounds. Had a little issue with rain from Mother Nature and Scott and Brenda were out doing what they could to keep everyone safe.Just minutes away from the city with amenities.Very Quiet. We loved our stay and would do it again. Thanks so much for the hospitality Scott and Brenda. Keep doing what you’re doing as you’re doing a fantastic job.God Bless. Stay SafeMike and Bonnie
Jul 03, 2024 · Bonita MentzerWe camped here one weekend. The campsite facilities were clean, especially the pool area. The campground was quiet. Nice size pool with zero gravity chairs. The campsites were average size. The owner was excellent and worked with us in our special circumstances. We had decent Verizon cell reception and very little TV reception, but we were not there to watch TV. The fee was a little pricey, but worth it. ($45 electric & water, $55 full hookup) We intend on coming back.
Jul 18, 2023 · Robert BlayerSmall campground with creek around one side. Bathrooms and showers are clean with plenty of hot water. Some late night noise from a neighbor mowing their lawn; what are ya gonna do? If it’s too late (not just after 10) the camp hosts do try to shut the noise down. Nice, well maintained swimming pool. Small playground. No internet. Cash only. And I heard a hoot owl! Near amenties in Dubuque.
