Millerton Large Group Campground Introduce
For local users in and around Friant, CA, specifically those organizing gatherings, events, or large family outings and searching for "Camping Near Me," Millerton Large Group Campground offers an excellent and dedicated solution. Located at Friant, CA 93626, USA, and reachable via phone at (559) 822-2332 or +1 559-822-2332, this campground is specifically designed to accommodate larger parties, providing ample space and facilities for group activities within the scenic Millerton Lake State Recreation Area.
The environment at Millerton Large Group Campground is characterized by its expansive setting and, as indicated by a customer review for a similar site within Millerton Lake (Site 139), offers "great campsite with views of the lake." This suggests that campers can expect picturesque vistas of Millerton Lake, providing a beautiful backdrop for group activities and relaxation. The natural surroundings typical of the Sierra Nevada foothills, including rolling hills and oak woodlands, contribute to a pleasant outdoor atmosphere. While the "park was nice," one reviewer noted "quite a bit of litter and beer caps," indicating that while the natural setting is appealing, cleanliness can sometimes be an issue, requiring visitors to be mindful of their own waste and perhaps even engage in light clean-up if they encounter refuse. This suggests a need for park management to maintain cleanliness more diligently, but also highlights the importance of campers practicing Leave No Trace principles.
As a "Large Group Campground," the services and features are tailored to accommodate a significant number of people. While specific details about amenities for the large group site itself are not provided in the reviews, standard group campsites within California State Parks typically offer a large, designated area with multiple picnic tables, fire rings, and ample space for numerous tents or RVs. They often have dedicated parking areas to accommodate multiple vehicles. Access to restrooms is generally available, and potentially potable water sources, though their exact proximity and type (flush or vault toilets) would need to be confirmed by contacting the park directly. The fact that it's "close to the boat ramp" is a significant advantage, particularly for groups planning water-based activities on Millerton Lake. This proximity ensures easy launching and retrieval of boats, kayaks, and other watercraft, maximizing time spent on the water.
One of the key features highlighted by a reviewer is "good price," indicating that Millerton Large Group Campground offers good value, especially considering the capacity it provides for larger groups. This affordability makes it an attractive option for budget-conscious organizations, school groups, family reunions, or large friend gatherings. The provision of a dedicated space for large groups simplifies logistics, as individual campsites would typically not suffice for such numbers. This allows for centralized gathering areas, shared meals, and coordinated activities, fostering a stronger sense of community and camaraderie among the campers.
The broader Millerton Lake State Recreation Area, which encompasses the Large Group Campground, offers a wealth of recreational opportunities that groups can enjoy. Millerton Lake itself is a primary attraction, with over 40 miles of shoreline. The lake's waters are suitable for swimming, especially during warmer months when temperatures can reach up to 80°F. Boating is immensely popular, with the lake accommodating powerboats, sailboats, and human-powered crafts like kayaks and canoes. Fishing is another major draw, with the lake being home to a variety of species including bass, catfish, and trout. The close proximity to the boat ramp further enhances these water-based activities.
Beyond the lake, the recreation area provides opportunities for hiking and exploring the natural landscape. Trails wind through the rolling hills and oak woodlands, offering scenic views and chances for wildlife observation. During the winter, Millerton Lake is renowned as one of the best locations in the San Joaquin Valley for viewing bald eagles, with guided boat tours often available. The park also hosts various interpretive programs and events throughout the year, especially during the summer, which can add an educational and entertaining dimension to a group's stay. These programs might include Junior Ranger activities for younger attendees or campfire programs that offer evening entertainment and learning opportunities.
Promotional information for Millerton Large Group Campground would emphasize its unique capability to host sizable gatherings in a beautiful lakeside setting. It's the ideal choice for family reunions, youth organizations, scout troops, corporate retreats, or any large group looking for a shared outdoor experience. The combination of ample space, lake access, and a "good price" makes it highly appealing. Potential organizers should utilize the provided phone numbers, (559) 822-2332 or +1 559-822-2332, to inquire about specific group site capacities, reservation policies, and available amenities. Group campsites often require advance reservations and have different booking procedures than individual sites. It is also advisable to discuss any specific needs or concerns, such as the reported litter issues, to ensure a pleasant experience. While the beauty of the lake and the convenience of a dedicated group space are significant advantages, being prepared for potential litter or proactively planning a group clean-up effort could further enhance the stay. Overall, for those local users searching for "Camping Near Me" to facilitate a memorable group outdoor adventure, Millerton Large Group Campground stands out as a practical and scenic option within the diverse offerings of the Millerton Lake State Recreation Area.

Millerton Large Group Campground Reviews
Went and actually stayed at Millerton Lake site 139. Great campsite with views of the lake and close to the boat ramp. Park was nice but there was quite a bit of litter and beer caps. I had my kids picking up trash over the weekend.

May 17, 2023 · walter zepedaPros: 30 minutes from town so super convenient. They have actual flushing toilets and sinks up the road which I highly recommend. There's an ampitheatre for group activities. Can hike and fish with any age. Lots of parking! Trailer accessible. Free dump site for your trailer. Cons: each campsite doesn't have a fire pit. Actual dirt area in campsite is very small. No soap in the bathrooms, and the porta potty in the actual campsite smells horrible. Saw multiple HUGE turantula spiders and had coyotes in our campsite. Overall was okay for a quick getaway though.
