Schultz City Park Campground Introduce
Are you searching for "camping near me" in the charming town of Elroy, Wisconsin? Consider Schultz City Park Campground, located at 301 S Main St, Elroy, WI 53929, USA. You can reach them at (608) 462-2410 or their mobile number, +1 608-462-2410. This campground offers a unique blend of natural beauty and convenient access to local amenities, making it a potential option for a local getaway.
One of the appealing aspects of Schultz City Park Campground is its picturesque setting right on a "cute river." This provides campers with waterfront views and the soothing sounds of flowing water. The availability of "first come first serve electric sites" is a significant advantage for those relying on electricity for their camping equipment. The nightly rate of $28 is also mentioned, offering a relatively affordable option for camping in the area.
For outdoor enthusiasts, the campground's location directly across the street from the renowned 400 State Trail is a major draw. This 400-mile-long trail is a popular destination for biking, hiking, and enjoying the scenic Wisconsin countryside. The proximity of the trail makes Schultz City Park Campground an ideal basecamp for those planning to explore this extensive recreational resource.
Another notable feature is the campground's close proximity to the city pool. This offers campers a convenient way to cool off and enjoy some recreational swimming during their stay, particularly appealing during warmer months. The presence of a city pool as a nearby amenity adds value to the overall camping experience.
However, based on recent feedback from campers, there are some logistical and management aspects to consider. One significant inconvenience reported is the payment and reservation process. Unlike some campgrounds where you can pay or reserve a site upon arrival, visitors to Schultz City Park Campground are required to go a mile into town to handle these administrative tasks. While this might not be a major issue for those arriving by car, it can be a considerable inconvenience for weary travelers, especially those who have been biking along the 400 State Trail and are tired upon arrival.
Another concern raised by a camper relates to the enforcement of campground rules and the presence of a campground host. The reviewer recounted a negative experience with a late-arriving family who exhibited disruptive behavior, including excessive noise, foul language, and uncontrolled pets, well past quiet hours. The absence of a visible authority figure or host to address these issues led to a feeling of unease and discomfort for other campers, including those with children.
Specifically, the reviewer detailed instances of loud yelling, offensive language, and dogs barking and whining for extended periods without any intervention. The following morning, the situation reportedly escalated when unleashed dogs from another individual, seemingly just using the shower facilities, entered the reviewer's campsite, jumped on them, and defecated on their site. This lack of pet control and the apparent absence of rule enforcement detracted significantly from the camping experience and raised concerns about safety and respect among campers.
Despite these negative experiences related to management and fellow campers, the reviewer did acknowledge some positive aspects of the campground. The grass was described as "soft and well groomed," indicating attention to grounds maintenance. The city pool was also noted as being "nice," and the availability of showers was appreciated. Additionally, the presence of a park area provided some recreational opportunities, at least for the reviewer's child.
In summary, Schultz City Park Campground offers a potentially attractive location with its riverside electric sites and immediate access to the 400 State Trail and a city pool. However, prospective campers should be aware of the reported inconvenience of having to travel into town for payment and reservations. Furthermore, recent feedback highlights potential issues with noise control, rule enforcement, and the behavior of some campers and their pets, suggesting a possible lack of consistent on-site management.

Please call (608) 462-2410 or +1 608-462-2410 to inquire about site availability and the current payment procedures. When planning your stay, be prepared for the possibility of needing to travel into town to pay for your site. It might also be prudent to bring earplugs in case of noise issues and to be prepared to address any concerns regarding other campers directly, given the reported lack of consistent on-site management. Schultz City Park Campground Reviews
had a number to call first come first serve electric sites right on a cute river. 400 trail across the street. 28 bucks a night
May 01, 2025 · Ron HeizmanThis place had potential but it was a struggle from the start. We came up the 400 trail from reedsburg and we're ready to be done for the day. This place isn't far off the trail and the city pool is right there. A big setback is that you can't pay for or reserve a site from this location. You have to go a mile into town. In a car, no big deal but when you've been biking and your tired, it's an inconvenience. The experience didn't end there. I realize they have no control over who stays but they need a host of someone that helps enforce the rules. We were going to be on our bikes again the next day and went to bed just before quiet hours. We don't expect people to be quiet prior but after 10 pm absolutely, respect quiet hours. A family came in with three dogs, several kids and a whole lot of foul language. They were yelling across the park until after midnight. Lots of profanity and offensive talk. I had two children with me and they were subjected to a night of poor behavior. On our bikes, we can't just pack up and go. We didn't want to call it in because again, we can't just leave. Their dogs barked and whined most of the time and they did nothing to correct the issue. First thing in the morning they started back up. Another guy, apparently just using the shower, let his dogs go and they came in jumping on us and pooping in our site. He had his dogs in the shower with him and then he left.A bonus, the grass was soft and well groomed, the pool was nice, having a shower was nice. The park got use from our son. We just didn't feel terribly safe with the family that came in late (almost dark).
Aug 04, 2024 · Melissa KandikoNo shade where we're at. No after hours number to call to complain about someone running their dog loose and teasing our dogs who are tied up. Three times around the area in a side by side, even after it was obvious the first time around that it was really upsetting our dogs. Then the dog came back by itself to growl in my 4.5 month only 5 lb puppy'sface while she was confined in a pen. I had to chase it away.
Sep 02, 2022 · Arlene BrandisWe had a fantastic time camping here! It's a mowed lawn with fire rings and picnic tables. Within a 100 yards of the campsites there's pool a that we swam at for $3, bathrooms with showers, and a huge playground for the kids. I will be recommending this campground to others. Thanks!
Jun 17, 2022 · Sean MulbrandonMust register at the El Roy Commons, but a great park with nice tent sites, a municipal pool, and RV concrete pads. Also a river winds right through the park and sand hill cranes visit daily. Also, right along the “400” bike trail.
