Minnewashta Campground Introduce
For local residents in the Arnolds Park, Iowa, area seeking a more secluded and tranquil "camping near me" experience, Minnewashta Campground, located at 7 Bascom St, Arnolds Park, IA 51331, USA, offers a unique and intimate setting. With phone numbers (712) 332-2341 and +1 712-332-2341 available for inquiries, this campground presents itself as a smaller, first-come-first-served option on a quieter lake within the renowned Iowa Great Lakes region. Based on recent customer reviews, potential visitors can anticipate a peaceful environment with good fishing opportunities and essential amenities, though it's important to note the specific details regarding hook-ups and the absence of a beach.
The environment of Minnewashta Campground is characterized by its location on a smaller and quieter lake compared to the main lakes in the Arnolds Park area. This suggests a more serene and less crowded atmosphere, ideal for those looking to escape the hustle and bustle. The presence of "lots of shade" is a significant environmental benefit, particularly during the warmer months, providing a comfortable and cooler camping experience. The campground's tucked-away nature further contributes to its peaceful ambiance, offering a sense of privacy and seclusion for campers seeking a more natural retreat. The proximity to Oak Hill Marina, located just across the bay, adds a layer of convenience for boating enthusiasts who might need access to marina services or supplies.
Minnewashta Campground operates on a "first come first served" basis with only 15 spots available. This small size contributes to its intimate feel and the potential for a less crowded experience. However, it also means that securing a campsite, especially during peak season or weekends, might require arriving early. The limited number of sites could be a significant factor for local users planning a spontaneous camping trip "near me" who value a quieter setting but need to be mindful of availability.
In terms of services, Minnewashta Campground offers essential amenities for a comfortable stay. Reviewers mention the presence of "restrooms with showers," which is a crucial convenience for campers. The campground also provides hook-ups, with different pricing tiers based on the availability of electricity. A rate of $25 per night is mentioned for sites with "no electricity," while sites with "hookup to electric" cost $35 per night. Importantly, the reviews explicitly state that there is "no water or dump" available at all sites, although one review notes that "some sites do have water hook ups." This inconsistency suggests that potential campers should specifically inquire about the availability of water hook-ups when booking or upon arrival. The absence of a dump station is a significant consideration for RV owners who will need to plan accordingly for waste disposal.
A key feature of Minnewashta Campground is its access to good fishing on the quieter lake it borders. This makes it an attractive option for local anglers looking for a convenient "camping near me" location where they can enjoy their hobby. The presence of a "boat ramp here" further enhances its appeal for boaters who want to explore the lake or access Oak Hill Marina across the bay. The combination of good fishing and a boat ramp makes Minnewashta a potentially ideal basecamp for lake-related activities.
The pricing structure is clearly outlined in one of the reviews: $25 per night for no power and $35 per night with electric hook-up. The mention of some sites having water hook-ups suggests that these might be included in the $35 per night price or might be an additional cost, which requires clarification upon booking. The absence of water and dump facilities at some or all sites is a crucial piece of information that potential campers need to be aware of when planning their stay and packing accordingly.
Promotional information is somewhat limited but can be gleaned from the positive aspects highlighted in the reviews. The "awesome tucked away campground" description suggests a sense of discovery and a more secluded experience. The emphasis on being on a "smaller but quieter lake than the main lakes" promotes its tranquility and peaceful atmosphere. The mention of "good fishing" and the proximity to Oak Hill Marina serve as promotional points for those interested in boating and angling. The availability of shade is another attractive feature, particularly for summer camping. While the lack of a beach ("One downer is there's no beach") is noted, the other positive attributes might outweigh this for many campers seeking a quieter, lake-oriented experience.
For local users searching for "camping near me" who prioritize a quieter lakeside setting, good fishing, and basic amenities like restrooms, showers, and optional electric and potentially water hook-ups, Minnewashta Campground in Arnolds Park presents a compelling option. The small size and first-come-first-served policy contribute to its unique character, but also require proactive planning for securing a site. The absence of a dump station and the inconsistent availability of water hook-ups are important considerations for RVers and all campers who rely on these services.
To ensure a smooth and enjoyable camping trip, local residents are strongly encouraged to contact Minnewashta Campground directly using the provided phone numbers. Inquiries should focus on the current availability of campsites, the specific sites that offer water hook-ups, confirmation regarding the absence of a dump station, and any other rules or regulations. Understanding these details will help potential campers prepare adequately for the unique characteristics of this smaller, quieter lakeside campground in the Arnolds Park area.
In conclusion, Minnewashta Campground offers a distinct "camping near me" experience in Arnolds Park, Iowa, characterized by its secluded location on a quieter lake, good fishing opportunities, and essential amenities. While the first-come-first-served policy and the limitations regarding water and dump facilities are important factors to consider, the peaceful environment and potential for a more intimate lakeside getaway make it an attractive option for those seeking tranquility away from the busier main lakes. Direct communication with the campground is recommended to secure a spot and clarify the specifics of the available services and hook-ups.

Jul 19, 2023 · James DiegoAwesome tucked away campground. Only 15 spots first come first served. On a smaller but quieter lake than the main lakes. Good fishing. Oak hill marina is just across the bay. There's a boat ramp here and restrooms with showers. $25/night no power and $35 a night with. Some sites do have water hook ups. Lots of shade. One downer is there's no beach
Jul 22, 2022 · Craig HuizengaOf wasn't for location, would have been just 1 star. Random fire pits, that. Have nothing to do with specific camper site, any of the bumper hitchees or 5th wheel use the adjoining pot for parking giving themselves 2 areas . Only electric hook ups unless you have 100 - 200 ft. Hose and lucky to get one of 4 spigot next to the 1 hydrant between 2 campsights. No dump station, so unit next to us, who was there for almost a week just ran there sewage ?? Maybe just lightly miixed with gray water ,under their camper mud hole by morning. Livable if priced like a state campground for 16, but was $35 a night with only electric
Aug 25, 2019 · Betty KrienerFor being such a small campground it was very relaxing being right on the water ....was maybe a ten min drive if u wanted to go to barefoot bar or if you wanted to go to Arnold's park , very convenient for where it was ....showers are ok but I'm glad there was a shower to use esp with it being so hot ....we had a shady spot ...small but cozy and we paid 35 for an electrical spot and for being there for 3 nites 105 is alot better than what some of the hotels were asking for ....will most definitely go back
Aug 02, 2022 · Robin BiernbaumI use the showers after work with some frequency. Functional but not ideal. Is average to above average for a campground but its still a campground...
