Silver Lake City Campground Introduce
For local residents seeking a tranquil "camping near me" experience right on the shores of a beautiful lake, Silver Lake City Campground, located at 227 Park Dr, Lake Park, IA 51347, USA, offers a charming and amenity-rich destination. Based on recent customer reviews, this campground provides a peaceful environment, full hookup RV sites, tent camping options, and a plethora of recreational activities within the adjacent city park. While some facilities are noted as needing updates, the overall experience seems to be highly positive, especially for those valuing a quiet lakeside setting and access to various outdoor pursuits.
Environment and Setting:
Silver Lake City Campground boasts a prime location directly on Silver Lake, offering picturesque views from a number of its campsites. The presence of large trees throughout the campground provides ample shade, creating a comfortable environment, particularly during warmer Iowa summers. While one reviewer mentioned that some trees could benefit from trimming, the overall impression is one of a well-shaded and pleasant setting. The campground is part of the larger city park, seamlessly blending natural beauty with recreational amenities. Visitors consistently describe the campground as "very quiet," even on weekends, making it an ideal retreat for those seeking a peaceful escape from the hustle and bustle of daily life within the "camping near me" category.
Campsite Features and Options:
The campground caters primarily to RV campers, offering 31 back-in pea gravel sites equipped with full hookups, including 20/30/50 amp electrical service. The sites are reported to be "pretty level" and "long enough for larger rigs," although those with a towed vehicle ("toad") might need to park it outside their specific site. Ample additional parking is available across from the camping area, suitable for extra vehicles or boats. Each RV site includes a fire ring for campfires. For those preferring tent camping, a handful of tent sites are also available, and these sites are equipped with grills for cooking. The mix of shaded sites and lake views enhances the appeal for both RV and tent campers.
Park Amenities and Recreational Activities:
Being part of the city park, Silver Lake City Campground offers an impressive array of recreational facilities. A "large shelter with picnic tables" and two separate sides provides an excellent space for gatherings, whether for campground groups or local events. The park also features a "large grassy & treed area" perfect for open-air activities and relaxation. Families with children will appreciate the playground area, which, despite not being very large, boasts a significant number of play structures – around 15 according to one reviewer. For sports enthusiasts, the park includes tennis courts, basketball courts, a baseball field, and a football field. Horseshoe pits offer another classic outdoor pastime. A public pool is also available within the park, providing a refreshing option during the summer months.
Lake Access and Water Activities:
The direct access to Silver Lake is a major draw of this campground. The park features two public docks and a boat launch, making it convenient for campers to enjoy boating and other water activities. Fishing is a popular activity on Silver Lake, with "lots of spots around the lake" available for anglers, as well as a small creek for additional fishing opportunities. The presence of the lake right next to the campground enhances the overall camping experience, offering scenic views and easy access to water-based recreation.
Bathroom and Shower Facilities:
The campground provides a shower house with one shower (free of charge) and two flush toilets. While a reviewer noted that the facility "could use some updates," it was also described as "relatively clean." A positive feature of the shower is its size and the inclusion of a curtain, which helps keep the dressing area dry. While the facilities might not be modern, they provide essential services for campers.
Local Town and Nearby Attractions:
The town of Lake Park is described as small, offering basic amenities such as one or two restaurants, a Dollar General store, and a gas station, along with some small downtown shops. For a wider variety of dining and shopping options, the larger cities of Spirit Lake and Okaboji are located within a 10 to 15-minute drive. These nearby towns also offer a more vibrant "party atmosphere," providing a contrast to the quiet tranquility of Lake Park and its campground. For those traveling by RV, a hand car wash with a large truck bay is conveniently located on the road into town.
Connectivity and Reservations:
For those who need to stay connected, Silver Lake City Campground offers excellent high-speed coverage for both Verizon and T-mobile users. Reservations can be made over the phone, with a check mailed in as a deposit. It's important to note that the campground does not accept credit cards, so payment via check or a first-come, first-served basis upon arrival are the available options. Even on a non-holiday weekend, a reviewer noted that there were still a couple of open spots, suggesting that while reservations are recommended, spontaneous visits might also be possible, especially outside of peak season.
Overall Impression and Promotional Information for Local Users:

The combination of full hookup RV sites, tent camping options, ample shade, and direct access to Silver Lake makes it an attractive destination for various types of campers. The adjacent city park with its numerous amenities, including a playground, sports fields, a public pool, and gathering spaces, adds significant value to the camping experience. Silver Lake City Campground Reviews
This park has 31 full hookup 20/30/50amp back in RV pea gravel sites along with a handful of tent sites. All sites are nicely shaded by large trees, however some of the trees could use a little more trimming. There is a view of the lake from a number of sites. At least half of the sites are taken by those that stay the season here. About half of those leave their campers while the people are only at the campground on the weekends. This is a very quiet campground, even on the weekends, that is part of the city park and right on the lake. There are many things to do within the park. There is a large shelter with picnic tables and two sides to be used for gatherings, along with a large grassy & treed area. The playground area is not very large, but has A LOT of items to be played on. I think about 15. Plus, there are tennis courts, basketball courts, a baseball field and football field, horseshoe pits, and a public pool. There are two public docks and a boat launch. Many people fish in this area and there are lots of spots around the lake to do it, along with a small creek. There is a shower house with one shower (no quarters required) and two flush toilets. It could use some updates, but it was relatively clean. I enjoyed the size of the shower and that the actual shower had a curtain, so that the dressing area doesn't get wet.The town is small with one or two restaurants. There is a Dollar General and a gas station, in addition to some small down twon shops. On the road into town there is a hand car wash that includes a large truck bay. There are two larger cities within a 10 to 15 minute drive of Lake Park (Spirit Lake & Okaboji) with more restaurant and shopping options. These towns have more of a party atmosphere. The sites are pretty level and long enough for larger rigs, though you may have to park a toad outside of your site. There is plenty of other parking across from the camping area that can be used for vehicles or boats. Each RV site has a fire ring, but no grill. The tent camping area has grills. I tested both Verizon and T-mobile. Both have excellent high speed coverage. You can make reservations over the phone and mail in a check as a deposit. They do not take credit cards. Otherwise, you can get a spot FCFS. Part of my stay was on a weekend that was not a holiday weekend and there were a couple open spots.
