The only good think about this campground is the fact that it is along the Deerfield River!I thought this was a great campground but is the most unprofessional campground I have been to. No online booking system. Instead you have to call to request a site; which is fine expect the owners play favorites and choose who gets the best sites. My friend tried getting sites and called to reserve the sites we liked most. This was at the start of the year (8 months before the reservation. Later we realized the sites were never confirmed for us and were all filled by "families that had been coming for decades."The owners play favorites and are just rude with how they come across sometimes. The sites are also expensive and only allow one tent per site. Will not be coming back here again! - James Baczewski

Mohawk Park Campground Introduce

For local residents in the Charlemont, Massachusetts area, the search for "camping near me" might lead you to Mohawk Park Campground, located at 559 Tea St rt 2, Charlemont, MA 01339. You can contact them by phone at (413) 339-4470 or their mobile number +1 413-339-4470 to inquire about availability and make reservations. Based on recent online reviews, the campground offers a unique setting along the Deerfield River, but potential visitors should be aware of both its positive aspects and some concerns raised by previous campers.

Mohawk Park Campground's most significant environmental feature, as highlighted by multiple reviewers, is its location "along the Deerfield River" and its "waterfront sites on the Deerfield River!" The Deerfield River is known for its scenic beauty and recreational opportunities, including tubing and rafting. For local users seeking "camping near me" with access to water activities, this campground offers a prime location. The ability to "lazily drift until I reach the campground" after entering the river further upstream suggests a convenient and enjoyable way to experience the river.

In terms of services and features, Mohawk Park Campground offers "full hookups" at most sites, with the exception of waterfront sites, likely due to environmental regulations. Full hookups typically include water, electricity, and sewer connections, making these sites well-suited for RVs and trailers. The campground also provides "fire rings to use" at each site, a standard and desirable amenity for campfires and outdoor cooking. A "full super clean bathhouse" is also available, which is a significant positive aspect for camper comfort and hygiene.

Tent camping is also mentioned as "available on waterfront," which could be particularly appealing for local users who prefer a more traditional camping experience with direct river access. The combination of waterfront tent sites and full hookup RV sites suggests that Mohawk Park Campground aims to cater to a variety of camping preferences.

However, some reviews raise concerns that potential local users should carefully consider. One reviewer described the campground as "the most unprofessional campground I have been to" due to the lack of an "online booking system." The reliance on phone reservations might be inconvenient for some. More critically, this reviewer alleged that "the owners play favorites and choose who gets the best sites." They recounted an experience where their friend attempted to reserve specific sites eight months in advance but later discovered the sites were never confirmed and were occupied by "families that had been coming for decades." This suggests a potential issue with fairness and transparency in site allocation, which could be a significant drawback for new or infrequent visitors.

The same negative review also described the owners as "rude with how they come across sometimes" and noted that the "sites are also expensive and only allow one tent per site." The perceived rudeness of the owners could negatively impact the overall camping experience, and the restriction of only one tent per site, combined with potentially higher prices, might make it less appealing for groups or families traveling with multiple tents.

In contrast, another reviewer had an "Awesome campground" experience, praising the "waterfront sites," "full hookups" (on non-waterfront sites), and the opportunity for river tubing and rafting. They also described the campground as "Family friendly and just plain friendly place." This positive reviewer commended the "full super clean bathhouse" and described the owner as "a great guy, very involved" and someone who would "be quick to resolve" any issues. This starkly contrasting view highlights the potential for varied experiences at Mohawk Park Campground.

Considering these differing opinions, local users searching for "camping near me" should weigh the attractive features, such as the Deerfield River access and the availability of full hookups and a clean bathhouse, against the potential drawbacks related to the booking process, site allocation, owner interactions, and site limitations. The fact that one reviewer perceived favoritism in site assignment is a serious concern that potential new visitors should be aware of.

While the reviews mention the environment (along the Deerfield River) and some services and features (waterfront access, full hookups, fire rings, clean bathhouse, tent camping), specific details about other potential amenities are lacking. Local users might want to inquire about things like Wi-Fi availability, laundry facilities, playground areas, or a camp store when contacting the campground.

Promotional information is not included in the provided reviews. To learn about any seasonal discounts, local resident rates, or special packages, it would be best to contact Mohawk Park Campground directly via phone. Given the reported issues with booking and site availability, it might also be wise to inquire about their reservation policies and how sites are assigned to ensure a clear understanding before making a commitment.

In conclusion, Mohawk Park Campground offers a desirable location along the Deerfield River in Charlemont, MA, with the significant advantage of waterfront access and opportunities for river tubing and rafting. The availability of full hookups at most sites and a clean bathhouse are also positive features. However, potential local users should be aware of reported issues regarding the lack of online booking, allegations of favoritism in site allocation, concerns about owner interactions, the one-tent-per-site rule, and potentially higher prices. The experience seems to vary significantly between visitors. Therefore, it is strongly recommended that local users contact Mohawk Park Campground directly to gather more information, clarify booking procedures, and assess whether this campground aligns with their expectations for a local camping experience along the Deerfield River.
