For those searching online for "camping near me," Savoy Mountain State Forest Campground provides an easily accessible and rewarding outdoor adventure right in your backyard.
Savoy Mountain State Forest Campground boasts a stunning natural environment that changes beautifully with the seasons. According to visitor reviews, the fall foliage display, typically peaking in late September and early October, is an absolute must-see. Imagine being surrounded by a vibrant tapestry of reds, oranges, and yellows as you relax at your campsite. Beyond the colorful foliage, the campground offers an exceptional opportunity for stargazing. Away from the light pollution of urban areas, the night sky above Savoy Mountain comes alive with a breathtaking panorama of stars, making it a truly magical experience for astronomy enthusiasts and anyone who appreciates the beauty of the cosmos.
The campground provides a variety of camping options to suit different preferences and needs. For traditional campers, there are numerous tent sites available, some offering the refreshing shade of mature trees and others providing more open, sun-drenched spaces. This variety allows you to choose a site that best fits your desired level of sunlight and privacy. For those seeking a more comfortable and sheltered experience, Savoy Mountain State Forest Campground also features four cabins with what past visitors describe as "amazing views." These cabins offer a wonderful alternative to tent camping, providing a cozy retreat while still allowing you to immerse yourself in the natural surroundings.
To ensure a comfortable and convenient stay, the campground offers essential services and facilities. Visitors have noted the presence of three easily accessible bathrooms located within walking distance of all campsites. While cell phone service is reported to be marginal, with typically one to two bars at best, this can be seen as an opportunity to disconnect from the digital world and fully embrace the tranquility of nature. For any immediate needs or inquiries, the campground can be reached by phone at (413) 664-9567 or via mobile phone at +1 413-664-9567.
One of the standout features of Savoy Mountain State Forest Campground is its proximity to a wealth of outdoor activities. Hiking enthusiasts will be delighted by the several well-maintained hiking trails that wind through the state forest. These trails range from moderate to more challenging, offering options for various fitness levels and scenic preferences. Be aware that some areas along the trails can be wet and muddy, so appropriate footwear is recommended. For those looking to explore beyond the immediate campground, a short 30-minute drive will take you to the northern trailhead of the renowned Ashuwillticook Rail Trail in North Adams. This paved, multi-use trail is perfect for biking, walking, and rollerblading, offering stunning views along its scenic route.
Planning your visit to Savoy Mountain State Forest Campground requires careful attention to directions. As one visitor wisely pointed out, relying solely on GPS navigation might lead you onto unpaved roads. To ensure a smooth arrival, especially when traveling from the east heading west on Route 2, it is recommended to look for Central Shaft Road on your left in Florida, MA, *before* you reach the hairpin curve. The blue street sign for Central Shaft Road can be somewhat difficult to spot when approaching from the west, so keep a keen eye out for it. Taking Route 2 and turning onto Central Shaft Road before the hairpin curve will help you avoid any potentially troublesome dirt roads.
While specific promotional information was not provided, the overwhelmingly positive reviews from past visitors speak volumes about the quality of the experience offered at Savoy Mountain State Forest Campground. The combination of stunning natural beauty, diverse camping options, convenient facilities, and access to exciting outdoor activities like hiking and the nearby Ashuwillticook Rail Trail makes it an ideal destination for local users seeking a memorable camping getaway. Whether you are looking to witness the spectacular fall foliage, gaze at a star-filled sky, embark on scenic hikes, or simply relax in a peaceful natural setting, Savoy Mountain State Forest Campground has something to offer everyone. We encourage you to plan your visit and discover the natural wonders that await you in this beautiful corner of Massachusetts.

Savoy Mountain State Forest Campground Reviews
Absolutely love this place! We come here twice a year. Fall foliage is the best there in end September, beginning of October. You can see so much more stars there then in our city. Can’t wait to camp there this fall. Also, they have four cabins with amazing views!
Jul 07, 2024 · VNGMy wife and I camped at the Savory Mountain State Forest Campgrounds for a couple of nights. Getting to the campgrounds is a bit tricky. If you want to avoid dirt roads, DO NOT FOLLOW YOUR GPS DIRECTION. We took Route 2 from the east going west. The campgrounds is on Central Shaft road on the left in Florida, Ma. BEFORE the hair pin curve. The blue street sign is difficult to see when heading west. The campground is a short drive to the Ashuwillticook Rail Trail, about 30 minutes from the end of the trail head in North Adams. The campgrounds have sites both under shaded trees and in open spaces, plus it has a few cabins in the woods. There are 3 bathrooms easily within walking distance from any site. Cell service was marginal, one to two bars at best. There are several hiking trails, some moderate to more difficult. There are spots that can be wet and muddy.
Aug 25, 2023 · Jim ColomboNice remote campground. Beautiful area with lots of open space. Only 2 showers for the whole campground but at least they weren't coin operated! Will be back!
Oct 26, 2023 · VickyFantastic campground, this was our second trip here and I plan to return next year. The facilities are very clean, and there is swimming and hiking. The sites are great, there's something for everyone, shaded, open, you name it. Staff are very nice. Mass state camping grounds are The Best ❤️
Jul 06, 2022 · Maria R.Rustic campground, waaaaaay out in the sticks! Bears!!! Each site has a bear locker for food. Beautiful campsites are well hidden from neighboring sites. Beach area is nice at South Pond. Avoid the North Pond and its leeches! We would go again. Oh, no cellular service, have a map or satellite GPS.
