Sperry Road Campground Introduce
Looking for a more secluded "camping near me" experience nestled within the wilderness? Sperry Road Campground, located on Sperry Rd, Williamstown, MA 01267, USA, offers a remote camping opportunity within the Mt. Greylock State Reservation. Based on the available customer reviews, this campground provides a clean and well-organized setting for those seeking a wilderness adventure, particularly backpacking.
One reviewer described it as "a remote campground in the Mt. Greylock." This immediately highlights the environment – expect a natural, possibly less developed setting, ideal for those wanting to immerse themselves in the wilderness. For local users seeking a true escape from more crowded campgrounds, the remoteness of Sperry Road Campground could be a significant draw. The same reviewer recounted their "first backpacking experience in the wilderness" here, noting it was a "Quite good experience," suggesting that the campground is well-suited even for those new to wilderness camping.
The cleanliness and layout of the campground are also positively mentioned: "the campground was clean and well apart." This indicates that the sites are likely maintained to a good standard and offer a degree of privacy due to the spacing between them. This is important for both comfort and the feeling of being in a natural setting.
In terms of services, the availability of firewood is noted: "The firewood is available upon request. The caretakers will deliver the firewood to the campground after 7 pm. They take request between 5-7 pm." This is a convenient service, especially in a more remote location where acquiring firewood might otherwise be challenging. The specific timeframe for requesting and receiving firewood is useful practical information for campers.
The helpfulness of the staff is also highlighted: "The caretakers ... are friendly and will provide you with the details." This suggests that even in a remote setting, there are accessible and knowledgeable individuals who can assist campers with information and their needs, such as firewood. This can be reassuring, especially for those less experienced with wilderness camping.
An important environmental factor to be aware of, even in summer, is the temperature. The reviewer mentioned, "Even though it's summer the weekend I spent there, the temperature was around 50s. So be prepared for that." This indicates that due to the elevation and wilderness location near Mt. Greylock, even summer nights can be quite cool, requiring appropriate clothing and gear.
Another reviewer who visited in January, when "the camping stuff was mostly put away," still found it to be "a convenient halfway stop between Trailhead and Mt. Greylock Summit." This suggests that even outside the peak camping season, the campground serves a purpose for hikers and those exploring the Mt. Greylock area. The mention of "Lots of campfire, grilling and camping areas" implies that the campground is equipped for these activities, although the availability might be seasonal.
Based on these reviews, Sperry Road Campground offers:

There is no specific promotional information in these reviews, but the emphasis on a good wilderness backpacking experience, clean sites, and helpful staff serves as a recommendation for those seeking this type of "camping near me." The convenience for accessing Mt. Greylock trails is also a significant draw for hikers.

Sperry Road Campground Reviews
It's a remote campground in the Mt. Greylock. My first backpacking experience in the wilderness. Quite good experience. And the campground was clean and well apart. The firewood is available upon request. The caretakers will deliver the firewood to the campground after 7 pm. They take request between 5-7 pm. They are friendly and will provide you with the details. Even though it's summer the weekend I spent there, the temperature was around 50s. So be prepared for that.

Jan 07, 2024 · Georges ToumayanVery clean and a it was a great hike in from the farm. There was a ranger who delivered wood. The water from the hand-pump was excellent....... no taste of any additives and very cold. Can't wait to return.
Nov 20, 2016 · John MaconiHike in only camping 1.5 miles to car with great sites, choose wisely some are way more secluded, and watch out for the douchebags that steal your wood bundles!
Jun 09, 2019 · Adam ChamberlainVery sad to learn that after being closed for four years they are completely renovating the campsite to add running water and buildings. There is no end in sight to the construction and after all of this it will no longer be the primitive campsite that we know and love. This was my favorite place to camp, but I won't be going back when/if it opens again.
