Moonshine Creek Campground Introduce
For local families and outdoor enthusiasts seeking a picturesque and well-maintained campground in the Sylva, North Carolina area, Moonshine Creek Campground, located at 2486 Dark Ridge Rd, Sylva, NC 28779, USA, comes highly recommended by its visitors. If your search for "camping near me" prioritizes natural beauty, clean facilities, and thoughtful amenities, Moonshine Creek Campground is an excellent option to consider. You can reach them by phone at (828) 586-6666 or their mobile number +1 828-586-6666 for inquiries and reservations.
The environment of Moonshine Creek Campground is consistently lauded for its beauty and meticulous upkeep. One family, experienced in camping at various parks, described it as "one of the nicest, well planned parks we have stayed at." The grounds, roads, and individual campsites are noted for being "clean and well kept" from the entrance throughout the entire park. A significant natural feature is the beautiful stream that runs through the property, offering at least two accessible entry points. While the water is reported to be cold, its beauty is undeniable, adding a serene and natural ambiance to the campground. Additionally, some campsites, like the aptly named "waterfall site," are located directly next to a small waterfall, further enhancing the scenic appeal and providing a unique auditory backdrop for campers.
The services and features at Moonshine Creek Campground are designed to enhance the comfort and convenience of the camping experience. Notably, all sites, including those designated for tents, are equipped with running water and electric hookups. This is a significant amenity, often not found at traditional tent sites, providing added convenience for campers regardless of their chosen accommodation. The campground also offers clean and functioning facilities across the board, as highlighted by a reviewer who stated, "Very clean and functioning facilities across the board." This suggests well-maintained restrooms, and potentially other amenities like showers and laundry, although these are not explicitly detailed.
A unique service mentioned by a reviewer is that staff members "escort you to your campsite" upon arrival. This personalized touch ensures that campers can easily find their designated spot and get settled in without confusion. The campground also has a "great little office/store," suggesting that basic camping supplies and perhaps local information are readily available on-site. The presence of a golf cart patrolling the area, as mentioned in one review, indicates that staff actively manage the campground and ensure adherence to rules, such as those regarding the setup of hammocks to protect trees.
While the overall impression of Moonshine Creek Campground is overwhelmingly positive, some minor points were raised by visitors. One reviewer noted that the initial welcome upon check-in felt less warm than they had experienced elsewhere. Another observation concerned the repeated emphasis on the "no kids in sanctuary part" of the rules during check-in, which was perceived as slightly odd, especially given that their campsite was located right next to this area. However, they also noted that a small bridge with running water nearby proved to be a delightful and engaging feature for their children with autism spectrum disorder.
The rule regarding hammocks, which was missed by one camper when checking the website, led to an interaction with a staff member. While the staff member was described as "cool" about it, the explanation was perceived as slightly over-explained. The camper was able to creatively resolve the issue by rigging the hammock from their car to the picnic table, and this was not further addressed by staff during their stay. This highlights the importance of reviewing campground rules carefully, especially if you have specific needs or preferences, such as the use of hammocks.
Despite these minor points, the overwhelming sentiment in the reviews is one of high praise for Moonshine Creek Campground's beauty, cleanliness, and well-maintained facilities. The presence of a stream and even small waterfalls adjacent to some sites adds significant natural appeal, creating a peaceful and relaxing atmosphere, as noted by a camper whose site was alongside the creek. The combination of natural beauty and convenient amenities like water and electric hookups at all sites makes it an attractive option for a wide range of campers, from tent enthusiasts to RV travelers.

In conclusion, Moonshine Creek Campground in Sylva, NC, offers a truly beautiful and well-maintained camping environment that caters to both tent and RV campers with the convenience of water and electric hookups at every site. The presence of a lovely stream and even small waterfalls enhances the natural appeal, creating a peaceful and relaxing atmosphere. Moonshine Creek Campground Reviews
As a family of four with two special needs kids we go camping every other month for a few days at different parks and places. This , hands down was one of the nicest, well planned parks we have stayed at. From the entrance and all through the park the grounds , roads and sites were clean and well kept. All sites (even tent) had running water and electric hook up. A beautiful stream ran through the park and there were even two spots you could enter. The water was cold 🥶 but just beautiful. There was even a waterfull (kinda 🤔) directly next to our site aka "waterfall site " 😁 I would maybe recommend some how impoving the look of the giant pipe through the hill look 😂 😂 😂 like bushes...like up some rocks to hide it ....something 😦So upon checking in after a four hour drive with two toddlers I will say I didn't feel the warmest welcome I ever felt when first walking in. I also thought it was weird while go over the rules , we kept repeating the no kids in sanctuary part like 3 times. Witch wonderfully is set up so the entrance is right next to our site 😂 it was hard to keep the kids from wanting to explore but thankfully there was a little bridge that had water running through it that was very entertaining for spectrum kids ❤️We did have a golf cart man come by when we had set up a hammock . I had missed that when I checked the rules on the website. When he came up and explained he was def cool about it but also kinda over explained a little bit 😂 like we get it protect the trees....ya know the ones with site signs nailed/screwed into them 😂 Pretty big deal for us cause we have a non verbal , eloping, not into much son that loves to swing more than anything ❤️ 3 nights without one ..not really an option. So we were able to rig it up from my car to the table and no one bothered us the rest of the time 😊 All in all I def would recommend this park and a visit . Maybe not the most kid friendly but there is a good amount to to around the area as well. Great little office/store. Very clean and functioning facilities across the board.
Apr 26, 2025 · Justin HintzOf all the campgrounds we’ve been to this is by far the most beautiful one. The grounds are nicely landscaped and the facilities are very clean. The staff are friendly and helpful. We stayed in campsite 39 and the creek ran alongside our camper. It was so peaceful and relaxing to hear the water. And they escort you to your campsite. Highly recommend camping here.
Apr 27, 2025 · jeb huckabeeWhat a great relaxing weekend. The campsites are big enough to stretch out and still feel private.Staff is great and very helpful. We walked the property and found something different everytime. The bathhouse is nice and clean at all times. The campground is 10 mins between Sylva and Waynesville. We will be back this time in the fall.
Apr 27, 2025 · Geneen PetersonI have been to many camping sites and this one is the best i have been too, the campground i have been to just didn't have that outdoor feel, the middle of nowhere feel. As every camper wants , they want that quite, that feeling of peace and the outdoor feeling and thats what you get here ! I met great people and made a few friends now because of you guys at Moonshine creek campground. Thank you for the great weekend and I can't wait to come back next year !
Apr 28, 2025 · Eric EsparzaThe campground was beautiful and my site was a true gem, boasting a babbling brook on two sides and trees that will make your heart sing. The weather was exactly as fall weather should be! We had warm days and cool nights. You can’t beat the location. You feel like you are isolated in the deep woods, but there are so many things to do within 30 minutes! The owners of this quaint little campground were so kind and helpful. They helped me backing up my little T@B and even delivered my firewood to the site! The real unexpected show stopper? The bathrooms! Oh my, they were impressive - spotless, beautifully designed, and equipped with granite countertops and roomy shower stalls that include a private changing area. It's no wonder they've won 'best campground bathhouse' two years running. The one piece of advice I will give if you are planning a visit is to print the directions off the website and do not rely on GPS. I did and had no problem. My sister did not. She made it there but was a bit frazzled by the time she arrived!Thank you for a wonderful weekend. Y’all have a little slice of mountain heaven! We will be back!
