Mountain View Camp Ground Introduce
For local residents and travelers seeking an affordable "camping near me" experience with breathtaking scenery in the Lander, Wyoming area, Mountain View Camp Ground, located at 39 Ray Lake Rd, Lander, WY 82520, USA, presents a unique option. While it forgoes some common campground amenities like bathrooms and showers, its stunning views of the Continental Divide, quiet and peaceful atmosphere, and remarkably low prices make it an attractive choice for self-reliant campers. The friendly owners and convenient access to local attractions further enhance its appeal.
Spectacular Mountain Views and Scenic Setting: As its name suggests, Mountain View Camp Ground boasts "great views of the continental divide to the west." Situated on a hill, the campground also offers distant vistas of the surrounding ranches, providing a truly picturesque setting. The beauty of the natural landscape is a primary draw for this location, allowing campers to immerse themselves in the wide-open spaces and majestic scenery that Wyoming is famous for. For those prioritizing scenic beauty in their "camping near me" experience, Mountain View Camp Ground delivers impressive panoramic views.
Quiet and Peaceful Atmosphere: Multiple reviewers highlight the quiet and peaceful ambiance of Mountain View Camp Ground. This tranquility offers a welcome escape from the noise and bustle of everyday life and more crowded campgrounds. The serene environment allows campers to truly relax and connect with nature, enjoying the sounds of the surrounding landscape without significant disturbances. This peaceful setting is a significant advantage for those seeking a restful and rejuvenating "camping near me" getaway.
Astonishingly Low Prices: An Unbeatable Value: A recurring theme in the positive feedback is the "astonishingly low prices" offered at Mountain View Camp Ground. For budget-conscious travelers and locals looking for an affordable "camping near me" option, this campground provides exceptional value. The combination of scenic beauty and low cost makes it a compelling choice for those willing to be self-sufficient in terms of amenities.
Friendly and Accommodating Owners: A Personal Touch: The owners, identified as Louann and Robert (though one reviewer was unsure of Robert's name), are consistently praised for their friendliness and accommodating nature. One reviewer noted Louann's welcoming attitude upon arrival, while another described both owners as "two of the finest human beings that I've ever had the pleasure to know," suggesting that spending time with them can be a rewarding experience. This personal touch and genuine hospitality can significantly enhance a camper's stay, creating a more welcoming and enjoyable atmosphere.
Convenient Access and Location: Mountain View Camp Ground is easily accessible, located "just off US 287 about 8 miles off Interstate 26." The roads are reported to be in good condition with no clearance issues, making it accessible for various types of vehicles, including big rigs. Its proximity to a major highway ensures ease of travel while still providing a sense of being away from it all. Additionally, the campground is situated about 9.4 miles south of Lander, offering convenient access to town for supplies or local attractions.
Proximity to Ray Lake: Local Recreation: A notable feature is that the campground is "walking distance from Ray Lake," a popular spot where locals go to swim and ski on hot summer afternoons. This provides an opportunity for campers to enjoy water-based recreation just a short walk from their campsite. While one reviewer humorously noted that it might not impress those familiar with Daytona Beach, it clearly offers a pleasant local swimming and recreation area for those staying at Mountain View Camp Ground.
Self-Reliance Required: No Bathrooms or Showers: It is crucial for prospective campers to understand that Mountain View Camp Ground does not offer bathrooms or showers. As one reviewer explicitly stated, "No bathrooms or showers. You must be self reliant. This is not a resort." This lack of common amenities is a trade-off for the low prices and scenic location. Campers must be prepared to handle their sanitation and hygiene needs independently, making it best suited for those with RVs equipped with their own facilities or experienced tent campers comfortable with primitive camping arrangements.
No Wi-Fi but Excellent Cell Service: While Wi-Fi is not available at the campground, reviewers report "excellent AT&T signal and quite usable Verizon signal," with "rock solid reliability" from both carriers. This is a significant advantage for those who need to stay connected or desire internet access for planning or communication, even in this remote location. The strong cell service helps to offset the lack of on-site Wi-Fi.
Site Conditions and Utilities: The campsites are reported to be level, which is crucial for comfortable RV parking and tent setup. While one reviewer noted that their site "needs a fresh coat of gravel," they also mentioned that unless there has been recent rain, the earth is quite stable. Utilities including electric, water, and sewer were reported as "all good." However, big rig RVs traveling in the summer should consider requesting 50 amp service as most transient sites lack trees for shade. Some sites do offer shade, which can be a significant benefit during warmer weather.
Local Attractions Beyond Ray Lake: In addition to Ray Lake, the campground's location near US 287 puts it within a short drive of other local attractions. A casino with reportedly good food is located about 4 miles down the highway, offering an option for dining and entertainment. The town of Lander, just a short drive south, provides access to various services, shops, and local points of interest.

Mountain View Camp Ground Reviews
Louann is beautiful. She said just come on in so I did. I think his name is Robert, I'm only here for one night and totally accommodating. Always nice to have a spotter when traveling alone. So quiet and peaceful. And you can't beat the price.
Apr 20, 2025 · Allison CookReservations: Joe responded promptly to our call to make reservations. He was exceptionally friendly, helpful, and professional.Access from major highway: Campground is located just off US 287 about 8 miles off Interstate 26. All roads are good. No clearance issues.Site condition: The site was level. It needs a fresh coat of gravel, but unless there has been recent rain then the earth is quite stable.Utilities: Electric, water, and sewer were all good. If you have a big rig then you'll want 50 amp service in the summer as there are no trees for most transient sites. I was lucky enough to be writing this review from a site with trees on both sides.Local attractions: The campground, as it name implies, affords great views of the continental divide to the west. The campground sits on a hill and thus provides distant views of the ranches that surround this campground/ranch. It is walking distance from Ray Lake where the locals go to swim and ski on hot summer afternoons. If you grew up in Daytona Beach then you will not be favorably impressed. Jul 05, 2018 · Phoebert HoenzoellerNot sure who's running this campground but I just called to inquire about rates and reservations and was told by the sweet older lady who answered that she didn't know anything, she was just a passerby in the operation. I asked if there was someone who could help, she said there was no one around to tell her. I asked if there was a better time for me to call and she said maybe call back middle of the month (about 2 weeks away).I hope this is not the owner everyone speaks so highly of in the reviews. That would be sad. I was looking forward to possibly staying here.
Jan 28, 2024 · Kat VazquezJoe and Louanne are the kindest souls on the planet. We stopped in without a reservation and they went out of their way to make sure we got settled in. These two are the only amenities you'll need here. Of course the water, electric and sewer are here along with a beautiful view.
Jul 27, 2020 · Erik RikerI called ahead the morning of and was told I could have a site if I made it before dark. The owner is a sweet older woman who gave me detailed directions and was outside waving me down when I arrived! The GPS brought me right where I needed to be, and I could see the other campers from the main road, but the hospitality really made my stay! If I am ever back in the area I will make it a point to stop back in, and you should as well!
